Make scythes usage more realistic - graphical change
Ok since NF I cant really stand the way scythes are implemented. It looks and is ridiculous. The blade positioning should be changed. In RL nobody would ever harm anyone with a scythe the way it is now. As weapon it is inferior to anything including a kitchen knife. However when changing a blade then there is a different story. Examples:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_scythe
That is how it should look like from the start.
I also added a picture of a real unit taken from Polish history. I think if scythes looked like on this picture they would be more scary and fighting with them more interesting. All the possible graphical modifications to blades such as ornaments etc would have more effect if the blade would be put "right".
I know that it is much too late for that but this section is for suggestions and I think it is a valid one.

http://mdz10.bib-bvb.com/~db/bsb0000...html?seite=411 - sourced from the Wikipedia. A book on fencing with scythes back in the 1500s
Though yes, it is somewhat impractical fighting with a scythe without first mounting the blade to resemble a halberd.
It should be noted that the scythes used in GW and indeed, pretty much any game, do not accurately portray real scythes at all, so the matter is somewhat trivial.
People just like the idea of a Grim Reaper style guy.

imo
It would be more practical to have the blades on scythes pointing backwards with the cutting edge out.
In other words if you stand a scythe straight up and down with the blade pointing directly forward, you then spin the blade 180 degrees over top of your head with the cutting edge up.
That way when attacking the blade slashes as apposed to getting stuck in a something.
not supporting a change though /notsigned

Looks like a halberd so it pertains to axes or either spears,
so if you want to see this weapon draw one
in the design a weapon contest and have luck.

Huh.
Someone else is aware of this.
Well, I'd personally love to see this implemented, but there are much more pressing issues, so /notsigned. Sorry.

This is a fantasy game. Reality has little place in such a game. Otherwise we would have no Elementalists casting Firestorms, no Necro's raising Bone Horrors, etc. Further, we would not have Necro Scar armor, Warrior Gladiator Armor, Monk tattoo armor, etc. and be able to fight in the Shiverpeaks, etc. Nor should we be able to carry 5 sets of armor, 12 weapons, 250 piles of Iron, Steel, Glittering Dust, Scales, etc. all in 1 Backpack, 1 belt pouch, 2 bags, and 1 equipment pack.... and still be able to fight.
Yeah, it looks better the way it is, as it fits with the 'Grim Reaper' idea. At least make us have arrows that we need to refill when we run out, and the same with spears. Yuo want realism, right?

Without knowing how the model even works is it even possible to make a change like this? There is a pretty wide range in hammer shape and for the most part they seem to have the same animation (Vera/Tetsubo comes to mind here). If, big if, this could actually be done as just skin changes then /signed. Skins are one of the few things they seem to have no problem making nowadays. I find scythe for the most part to be very bland though there are some exceptions and this could make for some interesting weapons.

I dont agree with this at all. There is a lot of "reality" in fantasy games. Yes the most of the premise is (what we as of now know) to be "unrealistic" fantasy, but mostly fantasy is based off of reality. Realism plays a huge part of inspiration.
Think about how technology influences how the realistic bar is pushed higher and higher every year. Seems to me that based off of games of the past up through that the games of the future, that the general direction of fantasy is to see how realistic it can be.....
With that said....yes it doesnt have to make sense. /agree
But still there's a lot more realism in fantasy than you think.
Take AVATAR for instance. From what we know right now...thats fantasy right? ....until the day we actually find other life (similar to us) on distant planets. Gotta dig deeper.

There's nothing Anet can go about a lot of the security issues because it's on NCsoft's side of the ballgame, from what I understand.
Also, we should eliminate magic, because that isn't realistic either.

Minor detail is minor. The way a scythe looks in no way affects the game play so I don't see how this is extremely important.

The game has magic and shit, and you're bothered that it uses the same scythe design as every other retarded setting ever?

I've known that the curvy scythes currently used aren't all that practical for a long while now and it doesn't bother me. I wouldn't argue against a few realistic ones if new skins were added in a future update, but I wouldn't have the old ones modified.

Oni daggers dyed red look like tiny light sabers from the side...and we all know those are real in real life...
Next, *points at Jittes*
Next, Fds and Ids and Vds (like these though as they add style )
Next, *points at brass knuckles damage type*
/notsigned...while I am all for realism within the game...I prefer realism with a twinge of style thrown in

↑ refer to my post a few up ↑
still on same stand after reading other responses (becuz, well most agree or have similar ideas)
however it would be nice if there was a halebard class in GW2. Not that scythes should be removed tho
