Basically, its a great idea, that should have been implemented 3 years ago, but it may be to late to do something like this.
Edit: No poll yet? Quit slacking Guru mods!!

It's just sad that people cry about how much work something is and the Anet staff is busy, I mean there's a thing called maintance staff, also I'm sure this can be done under 10 mins.

Could you do this in under 10 minutes? You never know- it entirely depends on how the system is coded. Could be a 2 minute patch job, could take several hours depending on how it was set up. Maybe it's not possible with the current coding- who knows. That's why they started making GW2- because things they wanted to do were not possible with the current game structure.
/signed anyway, I hate waiting so long to get into towns sometimes.

There are much more things that much less needed than thins, and they are added, even being harder to implement.
Some may consider that there is no issue, but party-breaking it's a design flaw, and forcing people to enter towns it's another.

3 ideas:
1: Add some preset locations to the ship travel menu - maybe drop-down lists like for example:
+Tyria
-Ascalon - ( party size 4! )
-Lion's Arch - ( party size 6! )
-Droknar's Forge
-Deldrimor War Camp
-Perdition Rock
*Cantha [click to expand]
*Elona [click to expand]
+North Tyria
-Boreal Station
-Eye of the North
-Gunnar's Hold
-Rata Sum
-Umbral Grotto
but in fact there are many more points of interest, different players would prefer different ones. So there's option 2:
2: Add a possibility for players to set their 'Favorite Towns' - a certain number of towns (even one would be great) that can be set for each character or even for whole account.
Best place to put that would be the Hero Panel, Account tab, where the [Travel To Hero Battles] button is now. I'd love to replace it with a Travel to [Heroes Ascent], I know many people that would love to have an insta Travel button to [Domain of Anguish] as this place requires 2-3 jumps to get into and another 2-3 to get back to another needed spot.
There would be a button [Add to Favorities] there, allowing to put the current outpost you're in onto the quick travel list, or even just replace the Hero Battle travel with that one place of your choice.
But maybe this would be simpliest and easiest to do:
3: Simply allow to open maps of different continents without the need of changing current location. Add a dropdown menu on the Map screen allowing to choose a map for display [Tyria, Cantha, Elona, Realm of Torment].
Just allow us to see those maps, we already know the game engine can easily handle travelling to anywhere in the world (there were client/packet hacks that were basically telling the server that user selected a travel destination number ###).
Should be very easy to implement.
and a mandatory /signed for the general idea

It's not a big deal, though it is an annoyance.
/signed for the whole "bring up submap of Tyria and choose outpost from there" idea.

That's a great idea! But it would have to be per character to prevent people from ferrying all their new characters all over the place >_>

i had an idea very close to this that i posted earlier but instead of in the ship it would be a tab in the hero panel.

didnt feel like reading all of these so heres my suggestion.
Make it tab based, hell if the people with windows can figure it out, anet should be able to.
open map, click on tyria tab (map to anywhere in tyria) cantha (map to anywhere in cantha) I think you see where i am going. Of course you would have to have opened these areas before.

all that needs to be done is another zoom out function on the map...currently when you're zoomed in on a city, you can zoom out to the continent. add a second zoom out to go to the world map and problem solved.

Google Earth style?
I made a thread like this a while ago, and I thought that I was the only one that cared about this kind of thing.
I'd like to add another suggestion to thread:
I think it would be cool if when you zoom out, maybe twice like Cloudstriker said, you could kind of drag the map or globe around and go to the locations you've been to. The globe/map would be completely visible to all players regardless of campaign, but of course you would still need to buy the appropiate game before you could go to areas linked to their respective campaign. This way, everything is on one seamless map.
The Battle Isles could sort of be in the middle somewhere, Elona would be connected to Tyria sort of near the North, and Cantha would be at the south. Now assuming that these continents don't comprise the entire Guild Wars universe, a globe may not be the best idea. Instead we could just have a map that could be zoomed out.
This coupled with fast dialog-box/window travel would make Guild Wars a lot more accessible and PvP would not so readily be abandoned as it is now
I remember seeing over 60+ districts in Competition Arenas in one day before Factions came out. Once they made the Battle Isles, that number dipped considerably and hasn't risen to anywhere near that since.
I feel like one of the reason that places (far out Factions outposts, out of the way areas, PvP arenas) don't receive attention is because people are too lazy to go there because of the extra travelling involved. As pathetic as that sounds, that's the truth. Also, people tend to forget things they don't see often, no?

most simple and best solution imo:
Ship Symbol shoudl brign us to:
Lion's Arch
Droknar's Forge
Amnoon Oasis
Tarnished Haven
Vlox's Falls
Gadd's Encampment
Ember Light Camp
Fishermen's Haven
Everythign simple, that can be logically ported by a Ship
Ascalon for example belongs not to that, because its simple NO Port Town, it can't be reached by Ship
Cantha:
Monastery of Shing Jea
Kaineng City
Cavalon
Amatz Basin
Elona:
Kamadan
Beknur Habor
Nundu Bay
because Elona has so less ways of Travel through Ships, there must be use then other methods...
At Gate of Isolation will be put in an Icon for a "Junundu Wurm"
Junundu Wurm brings you then to:
Remains of Sahlahja
Bone Palace
Basalt Grotto
Lair of the Forgotten
Ruins of Morah
Places get unlocked, once you enter those places for the first time with the character
At Bahdok Caverns get placed a secret Asura Gate Icon, that looks different, than the one on the Tyria Map, that will be able to teleport you to:
Camp Hojanu
Yohlon Haven
Dajkah Inlet
Kodash Basar
Honur Hill
Mihanu Township
This way becomes Elona much better travelable
-------
Asura Gate Icon on Tyria Map will be able to teleport you to:
All the Dungeons, once you have beaten them in Hard Mode to unlock them for Asura Gate Travel, but using the asura gate travel for the Dungeons will cost a small fee of say 1 Platin
and to use this service, all party members must have beaten the dungeons on hard mode, to that you want to travel through the gate.
So when 7 have beaten it, but the last 8th has not, then a message pops up, that Person XYZ is not prepared for the travel through the asura gate.
PS : signed naturally

That is simple?
Showing each map is WAY much simpler.
Click the boat, choose each available campaign map.
Click the Vortex, change between Torment and Elona maps.
Click the Asura Gate, show Tyrian map focused in the north part.

I would like to see favorites in my map travel adventures. The way i see it, if i could pick 5/10 locations i could instantly travel 2 it would be enough 4 me. I usually go to the same places anyways.

If that is not a joke, my system's RAM want a word with you.
The less unnecessary data is loaded, the better.
Why should I load a town I don't want to go to?

/signed.... but would rather have all maps combined, right click to zoom out, left click to zoom in, slap cantha in the correct place, put little elona on the tyria map, have the battle isle's somewhere between cantha and tyria, and let Eotn hang where it is, would make the mpa like UBER-ly huge, but would save time and eliminate the ship.

Many people we'll se how good it would be during this weekend.
While skill capping, people usually travel a lot, specially when they focus in a single profession. And sometimes may jump from campaign to campaign, to get the skill where it is easier. Specially with core skills and skills that may be captured in EotN.

Although it'd be a good idea, especially for the players that have slow load times, this thread is over 2 years old and it hasn't happened yet. Maybe it'll be implemented in GW2 if the maps are similar?
