You can't remove mods from any shield that drops in Prophecies. You can't change them at all.
I use "highly salvageable" on rares all the time for the express purpose of salvaging materials.
Be more careful.

Yeah, you weren't getting 100k for that shield since the mods can't change and the only thing on it was "highly salvageable". Probably just whatever the merchant was offering.
So at least now you don't have to kill yourself.

So your saying that there whas no way I could override or remove "highly salvagable" with any mod. Still its silly that you could waste something valuable in a blink of an eye.
I take responsibility, but a warning such as other mods would have made all the difference.

No, you don't get it.
The only thing you can do if you use an expert salvage kit on a Prophecies shield is to salvage materials. Don't use salvage kits if it doesn't say "Inscription: ...." in the description.
And don't worry, that shield was useless anyway, unless you like the skin yourself. No one except the merchant would buy it from you, and you now have 8 more steel ingots.

So its only worth about 100k when it has good mods your saying? That would certainly make me feel better.

if it only had "highly salvage" mod on it, it was worth a trip to the merchant anyway, you didnt lose anything great.

Its funny I didnt knew that only elona and eotn weapons could be salvaged for upgrade components. Forgot to mention I'm back playing from about a year of absence so pardon my noobness. So it would be worth alot if it had an inscription on it, meaning it can be modified. Thanks for clearing this up.

Yeah, NF, GW:EN, as well as drops from the end chests in FoW, UW, Urgoz, and The Deep. Those are the places you can find inscribable weapons.

prophecies and factions weapons can be salvaged for upgrade components; just not prophecies and factions shields and focii. prophecies and factions items don't come with inscriptions at all but weapons like swords, axes, bows, etc still have a prefix and a suffix you can salvage.
if you found a req 9 str magmas shield that had a +30 hp and another mod inherently (no inscription), that's probably worth more than an inscribable one

Yup, got a r8 golden phoenix blade back before the chest nerf. I would've made oodles of money...except the mod was 15% damage while hexed.
At least you got steel, normally I only get iron

8 steel ingots is better than 200g at the merchant anyway

Even if that shield was worth 100K... that's really not an amount worth getting upset about. There are any number of ways you can quickly make 100K... even a casual/inefficient farmer can make that in a couple of evenings.
I look forward to seeing "Measure for Measure" inscriptions on drops, gold or otherwise - I put it on certain gold items if it's not there already - to get large amounts of salvage materials.

One thing you failed to notice - Magmas Shield isn't a rare skin. They're a pretty common drop in Hell's Precipice. What IS rare and valuable is a gold one with 2 perfect mods.
So without knowing what you were doing you did the only right thing, lol.
And what is this 'suggestion' about exactly?

Yes I failed to notice and so did my guildmates who where also under the impression it whas worth allot of K.
The suggestion is that it would be better if you had some kind of warning before you salvage the shield. No doubt they will do it better in GW2 and I should be more carefull.

If a shield (or any other item) has mods that you can salvage, you will get a warning message instead getting it salvaged directly.
So you are suggesting something that is actually in the game already.
The thing is that you didn't see that in that case, because foci, shields and wands in the old drop system can't be modded; so you don't get a message with those.
That's all. Suggestion is unnecessary.
You could try another suggestion to update the old system drops to accept new mods, though, XD.
