apply codex arena rules to gvg
What if Anet made it so a limited number of skills were available to GvG on a daily basis? So meta was wrecked in GvG...i bet i'll see a lot of flames on this idea. Could be done easily and would be a huge change. I think it would enable new players and new to pvp players easy access to gvg rather than playing the meta builds. Plus, i imagine it would make the top guild a guild with the best skills vs best build.

i don't really like the idea, well it could lead to more versatility, but first in GvG You need to have 8 players precisely control their character and build if You want to win- this takes sometimes days until they learn at least to be average with their build, and for second You have that these 8 guys are used to each other and each other's build. If everyday everyone will play different build, that would be almost impossible. For that reason I don't think newbies will have better chance to get in GvG. Their best chance is to play and learn from mistakes.
GvG is the best in the way there is always some way to improve Your build or completely create new one(well there are these meta builds that works well, but no one forces You to play them, You can win with any other build if u play it better then enemy plays his)

GvG is top level PvP. We don't need to put restrictions like this on it. That's what smaller ones are for. Besides, I hear codex is empty.

Smaller ones? So lesser players should suffer the Codex arena and GvG go on being unchecked? GvG is the biggest and most exploited meta game in GW. But you think you're a good player? LMAOROFLOcpter

Codex would be booming if it was designed to be a 1v1 arena.

Its still much easier to just play proper sealed deck with 16 people if you want this.
It certainly isn't fit for any reward so its a waste of time to make people play 16 shitty builds if they don't want to.

I suppose you could add a SD option for GvG, but not replace the current GvG.
I wouldn't care though, I don't like SD^^

That's most likely very true. It would also very likely turn into the "red resigns" shitterfest that was the final days of HB.

It wouldn't even remove the GvG meta, it would just make it change as often as the skill selection changes. Codex already has about a 3 hour window before the meta is established for it. If you want to play GvG, then you need to learn how to play a role, and play it well. Find a guild that is willing to spend time developing a team and practicing with it. Doesn't even have to be the meta builds. But completely changing the way GvG works to be able to get in to the format is a horrible idea.
Perhaps, for future suggestions, spend time playing what you want to change, talking to other people playing it, and observing what is done there.

Wow. I never thought I'd see someone so short sited.
Tell me mr OP, have you seen America District 1 Codex Arena on ANY day that's not Codex ZQuest day?
It's dead. Infact, I would go as far to say that it's actually got fewer people than the HB and TA that it "replaced".
Hell, even HA is getting fewer and fewer districts. I remember when HA was 4-5 districts all the time. Now it struggles to pack-out 3.
GvG is the only competitive pvp left in this dead game. And really - who cares about the "new" players? Nobody's "starting" to play this game anymore, not when there're newer "shinier" games out there.
The fact is, there are more options available than you realise. Clearly you aren't a competitive GvGer yourself, otherwise you would realise that there is more than just Balanced. Fact is, the community dictates their choice of fair, honourable and reasonably powered builds. There are options to play ridiculously overpowered gimmicks (Ohai 5x Seeping Wound), but the community doesn't take those options on the whole because it undermines fair and sportsmanlike gameplay.
Dude. Seriously. Just no.

GvG has been in gw for over 4 years there's no need to change it now, besides this whole suggestion feels like change HA to codex all over again.

Codex needs to be fixed first.
The problem with codex is that you cant take the randomization factor half-way, like Anet did. They made the skills available random, but the teams not. What Anet should have done, if they wanted to attract players who wanted to try something other than the meta of regular PvP, is to make teams random like in RA. Im sure the elitists in PvP would still not have liked it, but it would attract many of the casual PvPers who want more of a fun, laid-back and random environment.

Why would you want to change one of the most succesfull forms of PvP to a pile of failure piece of shit like codex arena?
People would like it for a couple weks, then it would fall off the face of the earth....Honestly the only reason i know codex still exists is because I see the oupost on my map >_>
MAYBE....just MAYBE! if they added THE OPTION to play a codex style GvG against other codex type GvG's.....But again a waste of their time...Nobody would use it.
Honestly Meta may have ruined some GvG, but Ive found ways to worm the meta with under rated classes such as the dervish >__>
NOT TO MENTION! this would remove the fun of battling two guilds togeather it would be closed, unchooseable...in essence dumb.

To be honest, I'd be up for this idea. It is a lot more appealing to the average casual gamer. I don't like GvG because of all the rigidity of it currently, but, if the game changed everyday, it'd get rid of this kind of rigidity. Codex Arena was a win in my book, mostly because it's not dominated by people who crunch numbers for a great deal of time to simply play and game, and I would like this option open as well.

yeah your right. But, It is my opinion that codex would have been successful if it was a 1v1 arena[red resign could be dealt with]and that the idea of breaking meta is a good idea. GvG is so dominated by meta teams that its hard for new gvg players to get a foot in the door.

GvG isn't dominated by meta teams, it is grossly underpopulated and the only population that exists know the game very well. Even then it still isn't nearly as difficult to break into as people keep saying that it is; there are almost always teams looking for the 7/8th and would bring a pug. Now you do need to be open and honest that you are completely new, don't try to pass off any pve achievements as any type of credentials, and don't get butthurt if a few teams decide not to take your or drop you after a match for someone else. But all in all it isn't a tremendous hurdle.
