Limit merc/hero classes to 3 of each profession
I love the new feature build, and I got 8 mercs myself. However for the love of this game, I think it's overkill to be able to create an army of same professions. All you have to do is create the appropriate PvP character, merc it and delete. Then repeat until you now have an army of clones.
I would consider being able to run 7 heroes with same profession an advantage over players who don't have mercs, and microtransactions shouldn't provide such an advantages. It also risk of promoting less versatility when people would run a full Necro team, abusing soul reaping for endless energy etc.
Solution:
Allow a player to add max 3 heroes/hench of the same profession. 3 Necros would then be fine, 7 would not. You can still build very powerful hero/merc teams despite this limitation.

Not going to argue this would be good, but it's just too late. You can't charge people for an advantage, and then steal it from them after they paid for it.

If someone actually went through the trouble of deleting 4 of their characters just so they can have a party of 7 necros, I'll laugh.

Question is, does it work this way? Create PvP Necro1, register, delete, create PvP Necro2, registe, delete etc?
I'm asking because I'm not sure, so if anyone could confirm that...
Still yeah, it's pretty much what FoxBat said - it's kind of too late. Plus, I expect that there will be more effective blulds rather than plain discordway/sabway now, consisting of already available heroes.

Yes, confirmed, you can use PvP toon to make merc, delete, merc remains.
Sweet!

This. The in-game store doesn't offer refunds, so implementing the OP's suggestion would be terrible for a lot of players.

Also, I don't see why people care about stuff like this.

Ah.
Still, people have been basically paying for an advantage with a second account for years. This just makes it easier for everyone to do it.

I bought it just for more of the same profession. I would have never bought it if we only could bring 3 of the same profession.

You can use PVP characters I heard and they can be deleted characters. So all you need to do is have 1 free slot.

So in theory you could create a N, add it, delete, recreate, add it, ...
Only limitations seem to be Level 20 + a unique name.

EDIT: also someone pointed this out

Check here,
I created 6 Borat Ele's from a single PvP slot,
then finally used that same PvP slot to add them all to my party:
And yes, I could add them on any of my PVE characters as well.
Starting in Nightfall just got a whole lot easier also. Create your character, get to Kamadan, take boat to GToB and talk to merc. This unlocks the merc slots allowing you to add all your level 20 mercs while you're level 2-3 yourself.
Prophecies.. I can imagine you would start getting a run to LA first, then return and do your missions merc style.
Factions.. is now the slowest (and it used to be the fastest way to level up a new character)
And to end with a quote a wise man once said: Do you like pie? I like pie.

Its not too late, by any means. Why, these people obviously bought the packs for the reskin, and not an in-game advantage, right?
of course they did.
Mercs should be limited to the same party composition as everyone else's non-merc heroes.

It doesn't really bother me except for the new character thing. If someone can make and delete PvP characters to get an army of whatever they like, more power to them. However, being able to use level 20 mercs whilst level 2-12, 2-15 etc. is game breaking. If you aren't going to change it ANet, then why is my Fire Imp Summoning Stone, not level 20 all the time? That would have been game breaking. I am hoping this was just an oversight and ANet plans to rectify the problem post haste.

Are you really complaining about people having too easy of a time doing missions like Minister Cho's Estate? C'mon now.

Paying real money for an advantage in game has been happening for years. Those who bought Nightfall have an advantage over those who didn't because they get NF skills and heroes. Same for those who bought EotN over those who didn't, etc. Same with the bonus mission packs for the free weapons, or the game of the year edition for the bonus weaps, or those who bought a second acct for z-keys, etc. the list goes on. Why would it be so different now?

You can already get a few lvl 20 heroes straight from EotN, and plenty of other heroes can be gotten that are higher then your level. The imp summoning stone is <lvl 20 because otherwise a lot less people would be buying summoning stones, which are meant to act as a gold sink/incentive. Though I would love it to be usable on everyone.
