This feature was mentioned in the GW2 extended experience articles. I'm guessing this is a preview/ test of the friends list, but where is the option to toggle the feature on and off as stated for GW2. Yes, both people so far have to have each other on the friends list, but not everyone on my "Friends List" is a "Friend". I use the list for, selling on auctions, recruiting on forums/ sites and a alliance roster list.
They gave the toggle option for High Res, so where is it for stalker mode?
Updated:
Maybe there should be a new category on the list "acquaintance". Allow you to see if the person is online, but you can't stalk each other. The feature of location tracking is cool, it's just not everyone on the internet is really your friend... shocker I know, but those 300 people on face book are not your friends. Guild Wars is about choice, so where is my choice? Play offline or delete everyone off the list.

Wow! I cannot believe this. This is such a great feature and we waited so long for it. Why do you want to lie to your friends? If he is worth lying to then he should surely not be worth being your friend? I love this feature, it's so nice to finally know who is lying to you about where they are... muhahahaha. No the real reason I like this is to be able to see that he is in FoW or UW or in a dungeon that is why he is not answering atm... so I leave him alone.

One of the reasons I liked GW more than WoW was because there was no /who feature (or equivalent) so that anyone can see where I am.
Seeing where I am is tantamount to knowing what I'm doing. I don't like to broadcast what I'm doing all the time. I want to be able to talk to my friends (so offline mode isn't useful) but I am a very private person and don't want to advertise every thing I do, every time I play.

This doesn't address the issue, though.
Putting granular controls on privacy settings is just good business and good customer service. There's no reason a "disable location information" toggle can't be implemented for people who would prefer a higher level of online privacy.
Approaching this suggestion with posts like "well why are u friends with them lol" is not useful. This is about refining the a new feature. Please don't take the opportunity to simply insult other posters for not playing GW more like you do.

It's not hard, just some of us don't like being tracked down, Twitter, Facebook, Cellphones, On Star ect... We deal with being tracked 24/7, always being on call. Now why do I have be Google Mapped in GW. It's not about saying no to people who want to group up, or make a deal. It's about at least having the option to see if people are online and not feel like your being watched.
This feature is going to be far more in depth for GW2. So we/ I'm using this forum to voice my concerns now. Let's get it done correctly and give people a middle ground to stand on.

I dont need to know where everyone is and I sure as heck dont need everyone to know where I am--will be deleting lots of 'friends' really soon (and going off line doesnt make a difference--you can still see where people are )

Signed, things involving privacy should come with as granular as possible settings, especially for a feature that some of us used as a generic contacts list for various degrees of acquaintances rather than the "4-ever best friends" list that some people seem to imply it should be.

People talk about privacy issues? Come on! Seriously? It's a location in GW not your credit card information or your location in real life...
I think it's a cool feature that only mutual friends share, I dont just go around adding people so Its cool to see what they're up to and I dont mind my close friends to see where I am. It would be awesome if they could join whatever I'm doing in explorable, just to mess around... maybe in gw2.

Already I am having issues with ppl pm'ing me..."How come I'm not on your friends list?"
Since one can only add 50 ppl (and since I use it to keep tabs on "trouble makers") I simply cannot accomodate everyone I should or feel like they need be. As a GL I feel obligated to have all guildies on fl...b/c I dont want anyone to feel left out. Again 50 limit is an issue here. So in turn I am having to take all guildies off fl so I can have room for non guildies and "others"....for a feature that (for all intensive purposes) accomplishes next to nothing.
The only thing I can see benefitting from this feature is if 2 ppl really dislike eachother and have eachother on fl so they can avoid eachother.

I do not like features that do not allow me full control over my privacy.
I already spend nearly all of my online time on GW in offline mode because I'm only allowed to block 10 people at a time. Unfortunately, psychos often have psycho buddies...or in the case of one scumbag who has been hassling me almost since day one, psychos often have multiple accounts.
So my actual friends - my husband, my best friend, and my two main gaming buddies - can't even see if I'm online (other than my husband, obviously) and can only message me through Guild or Alliance chat. I have other players who I casually team up with once in a while on my friendlist who aren't in my Guild/Alliance... my options then are to either always be in offline mode and thus not get to talk to them, or be in online mode and open myself up to psychos AND to people I only know casually being able to monitor where I am/what I'm doing.
I am not happy with any change that gives MORE of my information away while continuing to give me the same poor options for controlling what information about me is released.

Same reasons as the others. Though, I don't have much hope of this changing, considering they never gave us any privacy options regarding the HOM website. :/
