This doesn't take away from the game, since you still experiment to find different colours and shades (but you don't lose money doing it)

Actually, I did the color chart because I thought that dragging the cursor around until you find a suitable color might be efficient for when you're not sure of what color you want, since that way you don't have to find the dye combination ahead of time. That said, I'm all for choosing dye combinations in the dye preview and having it show you how it will turn out! It would be nice for planning based on how much each dye costs, or finding out what you can make with the dyes you already have.

EDIT:
Yes, this thread has been done before, with killer examples of what such a preview would look like (inlcuding a Dye pre-viewer!)

That is a very smart thing you mentioned. The basis for the code for a fitting room already exists in the cape creation room.
All they would need to do for the dyes is have a row of the 7 basic colors plus 1 for dye remover and a row of 4 slots above these 8 colors. Then you just drag a color or 3 into the different 4 slots. Add a mix/show button and that would give you the mixture right on whatever you were previewing.
Should be pretty simple as the colors are already ingame, mixing up to 4 times is ingame, and the output for the colors is ingame. Just need a simple interface as I've suggested to be programmed in and tested.

Most definitely Signed. Aesthetics for me Is one of the most important parts of the game, and In fact, I'd rather have really nice armour dyed well over a really powerful weapon anyday.

I actually put in a bug report after I bought Canthan armor for my Warrior. My elementalist's Canthan armor is gorgeous, but my warrior armor is really homely. It looks like starter armor. I thought it wasn't displaying properly, but GW Tech Support looked into it and determined that it's supposed to look like that. I spent a bunch of time and most of my savings on that armor, and I hate it. I salvaged my old stuff for the runes, so there's no going back.
So yep, I'd pay a plat for a fitting room.
The GW staff suggested I make a comment on a GW forum as a way of expressing my.. um .. concerns, so here I am.

I realize that yall are talking about having a tab available at each armor crafter. But what if we had a separate merchant that specialized in this. In the end game cities only we could have a merchant that had examples of all the armor looks. Especially with Factions and the ability to buy any type of armor with any stats on it. People have a greater tendancy to mix and match armors. The merchant could charge a fee or something. However this is implemented (tab or a whole new npc or both) this is a great idea and i'm surprised that Anet hasn't done this yet.

This is a great idea, and many have thought of it before, but people don't usually go into this much detail. Sounds great, especially the cape code +drag and drop idea.

This is an amazing idea. I remember buying 15k plate...Then realizing it wasn't worth it, considering that it didn't look much better compared to 1.5k. It would save money and lots of people hitting themselves in the forehead.
