Default Hyperlinking

Tried the search function and found nothing on this. Would it be really hard to add a Hyperlink function to the chat window, so you could hyperlink something in inventory to the chat line??

Like in WoW? It would be nice to have. You wouldn't need to open the trade feature to know what you are dealing with. I don't see it happening now this late in Guild Wars life.

I would be happy if they decided not to implement this as it might help cut down on item selling spam in towns.

It was one of my main issues with WoW in which I would have both General and Trade chat turned off upon entering major cities.

Same with Kamadan to an extent, the spam there is horrible. The Party / Trade Search window makes it easier in my opinion.

I would think w/o hyperlinking and the auction house in Guild Wars 2 trade spam in cities will probably be down.

I'm against this idea for security reasons. It would be far too easy to lead people to a malicious site with this.

I agree with Chthon. Allowing people to post clickable hyperlinks to external sites in chat will just lead to all sorts of fun malicious activity.

Correct me if I'm wrong... but I don't think WoW even allows people to hyperlink to external sites by default in chat. I know you can "link" items and various other in game things.

There are addons for WoW that parse URLs automatically and make links functional and clickable, however.

If you mean inserting an item description, it would be rather useful,as long as those links do NOT work in the Local channel (like the Skill templates).

If you mean links to web sites, you can put them inside the name of skill templates, and people can copy and paste them. Skill templates won't work in Local and Trade channels, but there's no need to have those in there.

As for seciurity reasons it would be perfectly safe it it worked like in EverQuest. All it could do was show you the weapon/item stats moving mouse over the link just like if you had the item already. It was impossible to put hyperlinks for websites or similar.

It could potentially cut down a lot of spam, instead of trades like:
WTS q10 non-inscr max dmg 15>50 Crystalline Sword, you could just
WTS q10 Crystalline Sword.
So anyone who wanted to know stats could check it themselves while others would have less spam to worry about.

Agreed with all of this.

The 'Hyperlinks' links to the item data and shows the stats of the item upon being clicked on. It doesn't go to a different website or open anything else.

Linking the item to Trade chat (and Trade only) would be neat. Might encourage people to start using Trade chat instead of All chat to sell their junk, would also cut down on the amount of text that scrolls up every few seconds.
