Suggestion of hat for Thanksgiving
Well we're closing in on release of Guild Wars 2, and in meantime we're hanging in there trying to find new joys in game. Well here's a suggestion, add this hat as a reward for Thanksgiving
And as a second hat, one of the most anticipated hats in Guild Wars 1 from Martin Kerstein:

Thanksgiving is a bit limited I mean isn't it a purely American Holiday.
I suppose you could persuade a number of countries to come on board with a colonial freedom day if we can all agree on a date.
Love the hats though.

Seconding the Turkey hat!
PS, I'm in Australia and don't celebrate thanksgiving, but if there were an event for more hats, pfft! I'd attend ;D

I don't see them adding a hat for Thanksgiving this late in guild wars' life. Or at least not for free. *Imagines elegant costumes inspired by a feathery turkey*. If they do give us another free hat, I'll be surprised.

From a business point of view, it make sense to make your customers happy before releasing a new product. And some hats would sure bring some fun and joy to the loyal fans of Guild Wars

I can't see them adding something this specific. GW events either 1) fit the game's fictitious culture (thinking Canthan New Year, Tengu, Dragon Festival); 2) coincide with popular holiday occasions without keeping the specific connotations associated with them (i.e. Wintersday rather than Christmas, Halloween taking the commercial idea as a bit of fun devoid of historical/religious meaning); or 3) just an excuse for a bit of fun to fill a gap (Wintersday in July).
Thanksgiving has very specific connotations and associations with American culture. Perhaps it'd appear if they 'Guild Wars-ified' it lore-wise, though there seem to be enough annual events and I'd much prefer more original content (love the stuff so far!) over new holiday events. Old, recurring ones are more than enough for me.

Well despite the "american" holiday comments, there has been Thanksgiving events in Guild Wars since 2007. Slice of Pumpkin Pie or Hard Apple Cider anyone? On that point I have to disagree with you since it's already celebrated in GW for years. My suggestion is simply adding a bit more content to it, namely hats. Perhaps if you collect enough pumpkin pie, a collector will offer you a hat for it.

It isnt celebrated in the same way as the large holidays, more so it is recognised. Only the "major" special events like Wintersday and Halloween etc get hats and large ammounts of content. Same with talk like a pirate day (bad example given this years h'ween hat, but w/e) or april fools - hats and the likes are saved for the big celebrations and not the minor ones, small events including easter and stuff just get drops, they dont go all out with hats or town designs.
OT: If anet were to implement thanksgiving hats they would have no reason not to then give us Easter, April Fools, Pirate Day and Lucky Weekend hats and town designs and more content just like all the other holidays, its fine as is with the major and minor events, also i dont think Thanksgiving is anywhere near as wide spread as the other "major" events... all this would do is increase the workload of an already busy live team. people need to stop wanting more and then complaining that when they get more its done half-assed, you cant have everything.

Might be nice to add hats for the other mini fests but I guess its hard enough to come up with 5 new hats a year without adding more.
All fools day - Easter - Lucky day - special treat day - Talk like a Pirate day.
Collecting items for a hat would seem fair but I think its up to us to provide all the suggestions for hats.
That is if anet would like loads of hat designs heading their way.
maybe when there is a festival on Nicholas has a collect these items for a hat mask or whatever.
Wouldn't need to decorate anywhere or set up collectors for hats etc just add it to his list.
Would that be hard to program.

*sigh* I've yet to see any evidence of this busy live team, got a link showing them busy as bees?
And insinuating the op is wanting/complaining is insulting. It's a SUGGESTION! Why not have fun with the suggestion or get out of the thread?

If they add a Thanksgiving then they should add some European or Asian holidays too.
Bad idea.

Pumpkin pie and cider are seasonal fall foods. It's aligned with fall. Not neccessarily thanksgiving.

Heres something to consider before you bash Anet morehttp://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/b...t10495977.html
Just read what John Stumme says about how much effort goes into doing stuff in GW.
It would be cool to have a hat for each special weekend but if it causes other problems then i'm sure i can cope with the hats we have already.

You could have a point here.
Though I believe Chinese New Year, on which the Canthan New Year is modelled, is called, well, "chinese" for a reason. Namely, because it's celebrated in China and South East Asia, while most of the other cultures celebrate new year according to the Gregorian Calendar.
Also Halloween used to be a festivity associated with anglosaxon cultures. Most european countries used to observe All Saints' Day, Day of the Dead or both, but had nothing like the typical celebrations and iconic elements now common due to the American celebrations.
So, well... I'm neutral about this suggestion, tough we have precedents. We have drops during an event that's not observed anywhere else but in America, so I don't have a problem with hats as well.
