Don't really mind if players get access to older hats they missed out on.
When I see a hat do I think ooooh he must have been here from day one must get his autograph errrrr nope.
Number of days I wear festival hats outside of the festival errrr zero
Will it effect me one jot is a week old player wears a hat I got back in christmas 05 errr nope again
Three strikes and we are out let em buy the hats if it means that much to them, now where is my Woodstock tee shirt.

I think they should just give traditionnal hats though such as santa and pumpkin ones , which respect the spirit of haloween and christmas... It's a bit sad for players who can't get those while participating to those events for 3 years....
I would agree with the OP in the sense that old hats/masks were much better than the ones we get today ( only one i miss was lupine , which was probably one of the best....)... but i will /notsigned on the simple fact of having to pay to get them

Been sugested before, but the hats are supposed to be a symbol of you being to that event. Sure I am jsut missing 2 in my collection and it is killing me, but that is the way it is supposed to be.
If you weren't there to get the hat; to freaking bad.

Flawed statement. You can wait 6 years for a birthday tonic and you can purchase it (then use it). You can't do either with the festival hats.

I deleted the first hats of the game because back in prophecies the hats took up much needed storage space(only 1 storage pan back in the day). There should have been a festival hat npc from the beginning and I should get my hats back for free. It was their blunder and I shouldn't have to pay to get my hats back.

As well, this has been suggested several times over and over.

Umm, first of all, you can buy any of the b-day presents/minis/tonics, regardless of your character's age, so that's a flawed analogy.
Second, how does one really "earn" something by just standing around at the right place at the right time? There have been plenty of people who have posted in the forums over the years that have been playing the game since day 1, and even played during the holiday events, but for one reason or another missed the finales and as a result couldn't get a hat. I see nothing wrong will allowing others the opportunity to get all the hats regardless of how long they have been playing the game. I got mine and it doesn't bother me one bit.

I agree, not only this but having hats wouldn't really piss anyone off as they the players, cant make profit off having the hats in the first place its just something for players from the past to RED ENGINE about. Hat is no benefit but just looks, sure they could use it for epeen but how many already have Chaos gloves and obby on a monk?(that was example) i see no harm in it, would love to have a chance to get hats from the past even for another limited time chance to get them.

Which has no bearing on this issue - see my post above: there have been plenty of early adopters (probably some who were here even before those who do have those hats) who weren't able to witness the finale. Plus, we also have those (who have also posted in this thread), that did have the hats, but were either deleted due to lack of space or lost due to account theft.
Anet already has several precedents to allow getting hats without having been at a particular finale. I don't see a valid reason not to allow the collection of all hats at this point in the game's life.
/age plus a screen shot is epeen enough.

I don't want to see this, and even if I did, ANet is already pretty set on not re-releasing any kind of festival mask, ever. Just sayin'.

Eligibility for hats should be determined by account age. I know quite a few players, myself included, who weren't able to receive festival hats due to connection issues and real life responsibilities.

Your perk for being there when the hat was released? You don't have to pay for it.
It does not effect your game play in any way. You are just sad that you can no longer show off your fancy caps and use it to prove how long you have been playing.
Anet doesn't have to design any new skins so they don't waste resources or time, and they could use the money.

/notsigned to offering a way to purchase the hats.
But having a way to acquire older hats during later festivals seems appropriate. Maybe after GW2 comes out they can implement something like that.

Or even simpler, just unlock hats for people based on their account age.
Yes, I get it, if you weren't there blah blah blah, but that's a dumb argument, since games MUST take a back seat to real life, or are people suggesting that a free to play MMO should be the primary concern of all age groups regardless of family, children, work, school, etc.?
There are many hats I have missed, some due to deletion prior to the Hat Maker, others because I had finals, or family/friend engagements.
Does this mean my commitment to the game or my online persona is any less than the person with every hat? Maybe, maybe not, but as its a game, and hats have no gameplay effect, then it stands to reason that they should be made available to the general player base on an account age basis.
For example, my account is 75 months old, but between upgrading computers, and the above mentioned issues, I don't have all the hats. Is it a big deal either way? Not really, which is why it shouldn't even be a sticking point either way.
Really, hats are simply analogous to titles in game, just another way for players to show off. For some like me, they are a means of accessorizing armor sets, not full on replacing them ala costumes. But rather than encouraging all players to spurn real life commitments, especially considering that most hats reward days fall on days usually reserved for family functions and such, ANet should instead reward players based on the length of their commitment, not a single day here and there.
I have no doubt that many will disagree, but the bottom line is why is it so bad? If the goal is differentiation, then more hats means more variation. If not, then it must be e-peen stroking, which is just a very silly reason to restrict access.
So I say make all hats available based on account age, to show the ACTUAL commitment of the playerbase, not just a day here or there...

Due to a computer deciding to die on me, I've missed out on 2 dragon masks, and the wintersday hats. How is it my fault that the stupid Dell went ape**** on me?
I don't think buying them would be agood way to get them, but maybe some other in-game way to win them.

It's not a dumb argument since was entirely possible to A-F-wait for it-K during the festival and obtain the hats. Failing that, GW being a MMO and all, there are friends who could log in on your account and get the hats for you if you asked them nicely. And besides, aNet said they won't be making past hats available.
