agreed, even though i wont leave (wont buy GW2 at all), so its not my problem really
but for those who leave, its a nice goodbye gift, or something
i hope they'll do something like that for those who will leave right away, or soon after GW2 release (some people prolly dont have the money yet)
got my support
note: i dont like all masks, so will get grab bags once i got all those nice ones (which arent many)

Funny how its always the same people that show up in threads about getting something for free or dumbing something down.
/ not signed.
If you want a hat, attend to the respective event.
Its not that hard to set a char in afk if you have business elsewhere ( for things like halloween thats enough ).
I find the option of 1 hat each year from passed years a nice gesture already.
But I say no to an update in which you get all hats at once.
Whats next?
An update that gives you all minipets and all hom points?
Pick a hat you like, and look forward to next year when you can get another one.

Why?
The hats given are not for people that will leave. They are for people that will stay.
Hats are to be enjoyed. If you missed them, you don't get to enjoy them, and so it makes sense to bring them back.
But if you leave, you don't get to enjoy them either, so there's no need to give them to you.
It's fine as it is right now. Those who stay and missed hats will get to unlock new ones in years to come.

As MithranArkanere said, it is for those that stay in gw and not those that leave.
The point, I think, was that they wont make new hats/masks for gw anymore but there will still be events and there will still be people that want to enjoy it. If they gave all the hats/masks to those that stay, what would be the thing for them to look forward to for the next event?
I really like what they did with the festival hats, now they wont make new ones for gw.
@Wielder of magic and Andemius. They already did make past hats available to everyone, but with the restriction of one pr. event. Also it seems just standing there does not seem possible, but you can get it from the very start of the event. Just have to collect some item to get the token, to trade for the hat. So yeah... past hats are already for everyone to get.

o_O i dont think i get this at all
"you should have been there" is outdated, as we can get older masks now
"its not for those who leave" it IS for everyone who bought (paid money) for GW
most people are going to GW2, and most likely will stay there instead
again such selfish statement (no offense)
let everyone have their fun
also:
"Whats next?
An update that gives you all minipets and all hom points?"
i cant help but laugh at this (no offense), cuz hats dont even do anything at all, unlike minis and HoM points (minis give points, and points give GW2 stuff)
anet has been nice to us for years, so i dont think these points people give, will do much
heck, for all i care everyone gets all hats on their accounts, i dont care.... but i still keep playing GW
and of course if they would do this (the OP's thing), people will be happy, which makes em have more faith in anet
yes... even for small stuff like these

Even though I'll stop playing soon, I still wish to get my hands on some of the previous years hats. But I still understand people saying we should have been there when they were giving those masks and not just get them like this. A tengu hat meant an old player before the mask token thingy. Now it means nothing but a hat. But I still like the hat and I still want it. And not only the tengu mask, but several other masks from the previous years when I wasn't around. Bottom line : anet won't ever satisfy everyone. There will always be people complaining about one thing being too hard, while others will say it's too easy, there will always be people saying they should get a certain thing for free, while others will say you have to work for it and so on. But overall, I can only say I respect anet for everything they did, for listening or not listening to the community, for giving us years and years of joy, frustration sometimes, happy days or cloudy days - less words - all the excitement one game can offer.

It's not about selfish. As others said, it's something to keep attending events worth it. We won't get new hats, but we'll get old ones. One for events. So it's theorically like getting a new hat per event (a new one for the person claiming it). Now, asking those to be given all together it's like asking "give me all the hats of the future years now, cause I'm quitting!". Don't you see an inconsistency?
If you're quitting, good riddance then. But the game shouldn't be evolving in favour of those who don't care anymore and leave against those who stay. Why would you want a reward for quitting anyway? And as you're not gonna play anymore, what use do you have for hats? You're not even gonna wear them.

Really, its funny how in every thread about getting stuff for free or dumbing something down you show up. I actually bet with myself sometimes when I read an OP about if you will post and naturally agree. 9 out of 10 times I am right and I find you there. It shows exactly the type of player that you are.
Not willing to put effort into the game, but wants to get handed everything.
It is never enough for people like you.
Anet just gave you a finger ( 1 hat each year ) and you grab the entire hand ( QQ I WANT ALL HATS NAO QQ ).
And when you have all hats, then what?
The attendance rate for festivals would drop dramatically, since there would be nothing there to reward people with for attending.
With the current system people might actually come back AT LEAST once a year for their hats, and they might actually stick around longer for nostalgia reasons.
This way Anet has made sure that there will be at least a basic activity and attendance level.
I am not being selfish, I am looking at the bigger picture, something you clearly fail to do so.
I dislike the idea of a massive grind, but I also believe you have to work and have some patience if you want something nice.
Allow the hats to be special.

No, it's not outdated, as you can only get 1 hat per new event. If you hang around for another 7 years or so, you can have all the hats.
Buying the game is not entitlement to whatever you want. Attending the events is.
It's not selfish, and I do take offense. Someone has already made an apt comparison to asking for all minis because gw2 is out soon. I find your statement about it being for everyone who bought GW laughable. By that logic I ought to have an envoy weapon and max rank emotes because I bought GW.
And before you ask, I don't have all the hats, but I don't care about waiting for the few I still want.

Its not free stuff we want most people assume that we just missed the events cause we were to lazy to stay afk? did you ever assume some of us didn't start 7 years ago like the rest of you did. Also for some people its difficult to get a hat in a 3 day period when emergencies happen, i would have loved to get the Christmas hats but i spend every December in third world countries aiding children who don't get gifts so sorry if im selfish for wanting the hats within these last 2 months

Too lazy to afk? Well that means you actively chose not to get that hat. If you didn't start 7 years ago, you don't reap the rewards of doing so. As it is, it's likely that hat tokens will be available at wintersday and halloween too, so you can get them then.
If you're leaving GW, you don't need them.
And I call BS on your 3rd world gubbins.

does it really matter???? If as has been said, EVERYONE is going to be playing gw2, what the heck does it matter what is going on in gw1? (eg, who is really going to care--unless you are one of those 'gotta have 'em all' types...)
and
since you can pick up the token pretty easy now at the beginning of the events--so geez, you have to LOG IN to gw1 for a few more minutes --taking precious time away from gw2 play...in about 1 year no one will care about silly hats/masks at all.
be happy that anet gave you a way to get the older ones.
so
yeah

ok I have been one of the people who always said no to this. The reason it is a souvenir for a event. A bit like having a t-shirt stating you where at a "the wall" concert by Pink Floyd. If you weren't there you shouldn't have a t-shirt.
But beside the argument that anet decided to leave this line and give them to all in time, I would agree to do it now. Though I find it doubtfull they have time to do it before I would like to have a farewell party before the end. Making all hats available would be a nice reward for attending there. Beside that for the group thats going over to GW2 it would be a nice goodby to the game. For the people staying behind a nice goodby to those who are leaving. I have a very good friend in this game that can't come to GW right now. It would be nice to attend to one last event together.

its not like people who already got em will return anyways
its still not bad giving em all
and i said i wont even get them all, and have the time since i dont buy GW2 at all
now i still havent seen 1 good reason not to give all in 1 event
i also doubt people will return once they have a whole new game to explore
some will, but most others most likely wont
and who knows, maybe you say now "i'll be back for masks/hats" and once playing GW2 you could say "screw it, i'm busy with a new, more populated and way more balanced game (or something like this)"
but if people dont get em due to them being busy in GW2, and wanna return later, they still gotta wait every year... just to get some masks/hats which are nothing but cosmetic stuff, and not that much if comparing to costumes
so let the next tokens being tradeable or char-based, instead of account
or let everyone get as many masks/hats as they want
also, i doubt anyone keeps playing GW only cuz they gotta wait a year for the next mask to come..... not much profit or something, they most likely go play other games, inccluding GW2
maybe if they give all hats at once, people may like anet some more, and be happy, making em maybe even buy some more stuff, who knows?
