a new expansion
The title says it all. Guild wars was a very successful endeavor and very popular for quite a long time. I think a new expansion would really revive the game series and at the same time give arena net motivation to upkeep the game when they see how they gave up on it way too early. Guild wars 2 is also a good game but it lacks in a lot of aspects such as the PvP that it has to offer. It's a real disappointment in the fact that you can't gvg in a game called guild wars....or even go to your guild hall to meet up with friends and have a good time. Basically, I feel cheated by how Anet abandoned gw1 while supporting gw2 which has less to offer in that there is a huge disconnect from gw1and what it already offered. A net threw th e towel in too early.

would be nice, but you already said it: anet abandoned gw1, they have no plans to do anything with this game minus a few needed updates, and even those are, well, they must be pretty dang important for them to take folks from their cash cow.
(like the fact that even 2 months after the birthday celebration, there is STILL fireworks going off in gtob on the hour, every hour....)
nice idea, ngh (not gonna happen).

GW isnt dead community wise
i think they'll do something big (no expansions) once GW2 settles down, be it small ideas of people or themselves, or the ready-on-paper new content for elona
i mean, they did make the weekend bonusses for whole weeks, and favor is no longer needed for fow and uw (and favor increasing chance of gold items to drop)
they wont abandon GW with online gameplay, as long as people buy it or pay extra for it, which still happens
as i said, i think they'll come back once gw2 settles down, as too many people come back to, or join GW alot
how do i know that people come back and join gw? cuz i've seen it, and most who joined GW, also like to play GW more, instead of just HoM and back to GW2
how do i know that they will come back? i dont, i said i THINK they will
and hoping my way of thinking will be right
a new expansion would be nice, if they dont make it title based like NF, or do give much freedom to get to places (unlike factions and NF)
but i doubt they will, as they will have to make new dungeons and new weapon skins, cuz people will otherwise cry like a baby if they "ONLY" get a new expansion with quests and such, but no skins !!!!!

They made the weekend bonus last an entire week and They removed favor as being a requisite to do fow because the community is dead
Not as a favor or an update.

I doubt they will do anything (even if gw2 'settles down') gw2 is what is making money for them, gw is not; they will put everything into making gw2 work since they have a huge cash shop for it.
Besides, the team that is left is not who made gw, its those that made gw2. Do you really want an expansion that was made by those who made gw2?
I would like to see the end of the nightfall arc (and what happened to Evinna etc), and an update on skills for those professions they said that they would do; but other than that I dont really want gw to be gw2-ized. So if that is the expansion we get that would be fine---and I really think even that is a major dream.

gw still gives them money, of course (both ncsoft and anet) (by both newcomers and ingame store)
also, if GW gets updated, i know that more people will return (seen several in 1 and the same week)
and again: i doubt expansions, but other not-so-small updates like maybe (maybe...) elona's new content
but also possible to make gw a lil bigger by adding HM versions of quests and such "smaller" additions

If Guild Wars ever gets another expansive style update, ill eat my own sock, and be completely happy about it.
There was so many things they could of done with the game, and I firmly believe it could go on as long as WoW with the right updates/team, but alas, as people have mentioned its pretty much an entire different company, and Guild Wars 2 reflects that heavily. Aside from lore there is nothing from 2 that I would link back to 1, sadly.

A good extension of Sorrow Furnace, or Tomb of the Primeval Kings would be so cool.

An addition I wouldn't mind seeing, would be opening up the catacombs in post. Make it level 20+ content, a series of quests like SF, with bosses from each class. After you are ascended, start the quests at the statue in Sardelac Sanitarium, and follow up with NPCs. Once in the catacombs, locate the dragons' nests and try to prevent the awakening of the dragons. Defeat the guardians, destroy the nests, only to find you are too late.
An expansion would be great, but....................

I really hope gw stays around for a longer period of time. I really enjoy this game much more than alot of others. Even when i get tired of playing. I just take a break and come back and the game is just as fun as i remembered it
If there's an expansion or more gameplay content I will be willing to support it if it meant i can continue playing gw1

with so many people still playing and paying (both new accounts and ingame store stuff) i doubt it goes down anytime soon
gw2 might give them more now, but thats cuz most who played gw for ages have moved on, and those who started with gw2 and prefer it more, stayed in gw2, and cuz gw2 is newer, plus its a true MMO ingame store where you basically buy anything now
and i'd pay for new content no problem, but think its better to upgrade GW by doing smaller stuff too, like making prophecies missions having their exploreable version
people would like it for both carto and strolling in missions (or even farming certain items easier, i dunno, like for nicholas), like in cantha and elona
but also something like updating some skills, from beast mastery (in pve pets being more useful is nicer) and removing the disable time from pve too
and much more i could suggest
small things, but still would make almost anyone happy (veterans and new players)
do i need to mention some npc's still blocking your path, so you cant walk through them, and have to walk all the way around?
what about kurz and lux areas having both kurz and lux priests, so that AB (pvp) wont be a must for pve-ers
to name a few other things
anyway, we'll have to see if anet is smart enough to get back to GW now and then
lets hope so
as i said before: i doubt an expansion, but at least some love for the game with smaller updates would be nice (no more nerfs plz.... they get annoying, rather buff beast mastery and paragons, spears arent half as strong as bows, yet have worse range than bows.... let preparations work on spears, lol)
*hoping again.... just not holding my breath*

Even thought this isn't what OP asked, this might encourage some discussion, also I wanted somewhere to post these ideas!!
Ok, so lets say GW got an expansion, and I was the one developing it, this is what I'd do:
(Please note I'm not super into the very core things of the game so I couldn't really comment on deep skill changes etc. Also a thing to note is I don't believe an expansion would make this game alive again, I think it needs some serious cleaning up and a much needed facelift if we want to seduce newcomers)
* The game is now free to play instead of buy to play, this change has been done to open the game up for newer players that may not want to join because the game is older *
Graphics:
* The games human models would be updated, like we have seen in WoW. They would be upgraded to a more smoother and realistic human like model, which also means all armour would be tailored to fit the new body.
* All game models now move more realistic and smoother.
* The graphics would now be updated to 1080p, think of like the mods in Skyrim. The trees would also be updated with a bit more leafs and models updated to look a bit more like actual trees. Everything in the game would be upgraded to 1080p to support the newer computer graphics. You will be able to still have low graphics options.
* The game would use SweetFX, this would be integrated so that you may change the settings in the game. This is to improve colour and atmosphere.
General cosmetic and life improvement things:
* 25 new gender specific hairstyles for female and male, 25 new unisex hairstyles available on both genders.
* 15 new female faces and 15 new male faces.
* New slots has been introduced in the character customisation, you may now chose between facial scars and body scars, you may pick one of each.
* New slots has been introduced in the character customisation, you may now chose between various styles of tattoo's. This is available on all professions, but some tattoo's are themed to specific professions and will not be available on others.
* 10 new emotes have been introduced to the game, and a emote in game archive has now been made so that you can easily access them.
* Hair colour sliders would be available. You can now pick a shade and you can pull it to light or darkest available.
* Hair colours in unnatural colours are limited to elementalists and necromancers but they are now unlocked with 10 more shades of unnatural colours.
* All hair colours that are not unnatural are now unlocked on all professions.
* All hairstyles are now unlocked on all professions, except for those which are very specific to the particular profession. I. e monks can not chose from the hairstyles that have hair accessories that are in theme of necromancers and necromancers can thus not wear monk hairstyles with hair accessories that are specific to the monk profession.
* The equipment bag slot is now removed and has been changed with a wardrobe. You can now store armour under it's specific body part, each body part has a total of 25 slots which you can then store 25 armour pieces. In example, on the chest slot you may store up to 25 chest piece armours, and on the head slot you may now place up to 25 head pieces. You can then unlock more slots in the future through end game content, you are given a total of 2 slots when you finish any storyline.
* All faces are now unlocked on all professions.
* All skin colours are now unlocked on all professions and for all genders.
* Certain armours have been lightly modified to fit more with their gender counterpart, I.e Elite Templar armour been changed so that the female counterpart is the same as the male. All female elementalist armour has now an option to chose the male version, which has been lightly modified to fit a female body. This has been done to open up variety.
* Currency has been changed, it now has gold, silver and copper like most other games. And the game currency will change accordingly in the game. For every 100k you had previously you will now have 1 gold.(this would have to be thought through better, but the current system of guild wars doesn't really open up for rewards etc and the only skins hard getting are asian minipets. We need to make it easier for people to be rewarded properly and currently cash is overflowing. We also need cash sinks so that there wont be an abundance of gold).
* New measures have been put in place to combat bottling. (I am not a programmer, obviously, but I reckon this can be done, either they need newer ways to find bots or they just need to care enough to ban them)
PvP:
* Alliance Battles and Fort Aspenwood has now received a faction bonus for kills and as reward for winning or losing. Alliance Battles has received a 75% bonus increase and Fort Aspenwood has received a 50% increase.
* Alliance Battles have now been completely independent of border influence. The map has been changed to rotate to a random map every 2 hours. However, Kaanai Canion and Ancestral Lands have been changed to only appear twice a day, each.
* Alliance Battles has received two new maps where players are on equal grounding, the same level they would be on Saltspray Beach.
* GvG has now four new maps, each in theme of the campaigns.
* Absolutely all monthly PvP fluxes have been removed from HA and GvG, but some will still remain in AB, FA, JQ, RA, etc. The ones that will remain is the ones that are not game breaking.
* RA has been changed to only generate one monk in a party at a time unless the monk has 2 or more smiting skills, then the monk will be counted as a damage dealer rather than a healer and can be randomly teamed with another monk.
* FA has been changed to only allow a total of 4 monks each side, however, it will always add two monks to each side if enough monk characters are available.
* Certain professions(like dervish) will need a fix to not make them so OP, but we don't want to break them either and rend them useless.
* Ritualists will get a bonus and change on how they deal damage in PvP so that they may have more variation of builds.
PvE:
Since I am not that good with skills, but I do believe that there needs to be a fix in the difficulty level of GW, I would try to figure out with the community what would be the best way to fix this issue. I do believe PvE is too easy, even in Hard Mode. I also reckon this means enemies will have new skills and new AI. PvE will be harder, but I want players to feel rewarded when they do win. I want Normal Mode to be noob friendly, but difficulty will increase with level on the enemies.
* Teaming up with players for content gives a cash bonus of 100k divided on the amount of players.
*When you finish all the missions in Normal or Hardmode in either of the campaigns you will receive a generous bonus of gold. When you have completed all missions of that campaign in Hardmode you will receive a complete armour set in the theme of that campaign.
In general I am happy that GW managed to be a very good game without the powercreep, and I want to keep it that way. Max stat basic armour shall be very accessible and easily acquired.
That's all I can think of, of the top of my head. It would make me damn excited at least.
Ok, so over to the expansion!
The expansion would be the release of Utopia.
* It would NOT introduce a new profession.
* It would NOT introduce new skills. It will only have skills that NPC's give you inside missions.
* It will introduce a new elite armour for all professions and genders.
* It will introduce a new Obsidian like in terms of price range elite armour.
* Lush beautiful areas, you'll also now be able to interact with the world, you can now sit on chairs, and other RP things.
Ok really that's all I can think of that I'd bring. Obviously can't talk that much about the expansion since it got developed already, but that's what I would want. But I'd want it to be an expansion that isn't game breaking or makes it hard for people to play the game with tons of skills having to be nerfed.

My idea of an expansion would be a set of new dungeons outside of EoTN. Including post-searing Catacombs.

dont upgrade the graphics
many people bought the game at eotn graphics (some even lower), so if they cant play more than that (not everyone is rich on this world, like myself), you'll shoo them away
i was thinking about dungeons in all campaigns, which would have stronger versions (not completely new built) enemies of their campaign
updating the graphics of a game that wont get new stuff (even if it would, it'd be bad to many people) will do worse than it already does to some who still play

yes, lots of people have newer computers, however, there are those who still have older ones (all of the computers I play gw on are at least that old, so not everyone can afford to keep buying new computers, I still play on the computer I started gw on in 05)

need to? what rule does say that?
dont you think eotn graphics are good enough?
i was surprised that eotn became so nice looking, compared to others, especially proph
i dont mind proph graphics, but eotn is kinda upgraded proph textures
so why not the same quality of graphics as eotn?
it looks good, and no need to make it higher quality
also, in GW you cant do much about graphics, like lowering it, i have seen (not for my own laptop and pc) that lowering it doesnt help that much, if its a bit old (proph kind of level) you still lag, or even (like someone i know) get stuck with your char in eotn*
and the graphics were on its lowest, yet still lag.... that computer was newer than factions as far as i know
*she was able to let someone else log into her account to get out of rata sum (and eotn in general), so no problem anymore, she just cant do eotn anymore
and even if they would make an expansion, i doubt they'll make a better "even lower graphics" option for the game (and lower graphics made for eotn and beyond)

"You will be able to still have low graphics options."
Do I need to make it bold? With underline?
There's so many other ideas listed, some which nobody has said anything about. I am hoping other people here that have ideas to an expansion would share them too, call me crazy, I just think it's fun to share ideas of how we'd want the expansion to be like. Maybe I'm the only one.
I don't even know what you're trying to get at. I'm not going to have a discussion about whether or not the graphics of GW is good enough, seriously. I'm out.
