Wait, you were talking about unofficial server emulators. Anet simply WON'T allow access to those.

As for downloading portions of the database, it's technically very feasible but... You already have an answer in your post, bolded for simplicity: it would require some work (much work, I say), so, why doing it right now, while they're not planning to shut the game down yet?

This is likely a non-existent problem to Anet: keeping the servers running is both easier and cheaper for them to even bother.

/signed love the idea, think gw will be online at least 10 years more, but i started some months ago and i want tocontinue for much more, who knows? Maybe we could also start a fan server to continue with minmum cost, and if it goes completely offline maybe its posible to keep the battles in ra, jq, fa, ha, and all that stuff with something like the bots but with random builds(ally and opponent team because it wouldnt be funny fighting always the same)

Why is this even brought up, while the game is still available?

No one is restricted from writing his own server software, and business negotiations on whether it could adapt to 3rd party's content (in this case, NCsoft's and ArenaNet's) is entirely other story deserving its place if and when an individual possesses such a software, what I obviously haven't spotted during all these years, with the exception of GWLP which isn't in active development for a long time and would probably require months of programming efforts to become just half as functional as ArenaNet's own Guild Wars server.

This thread is all about castles in the sky, with a very crude model of how it actually could and might be implemented into the existing game's engine...

Sorry to have disappointed some of you, but the chances the thread in its existing form could cause any influence upon ArenaNet's team are like 0.5%.

This would be great. Imagine playing. Then loading up on your laptop during your lunch break at work. Mind blown.
