However if you are intent on wiping out all running services. I guess you can argue that many runs are exploitive in nature. Some even regard running itself an exploit, due to its exploitation on the zoning mechanics. It is up to you.

Thats the thing...its not up to ME, its up to anet--and if they have suddenly decided that this is a no-no now, they need to inform their players (and since we allow threads on our forum for this, they should also tell us so we can keep up to date as well).
And yeah, I can see running as an exploit--back in the day, I got one of my characters ran thru many of the eton hm dungeons (I watched the whole time, but others were afk). Would like to know.
and then the question is: if running is ok, is it only ok if its 2 different people doing it--can you run your own accounts? (if you are in front of your computer(s) the whole time for the duration of the runs)....

I've been running for years. If there was a ban for running, I would have been one of the first to go. For sure.

I don't think there is any reason to speculate over what they banned for. If it says third party modification/botting you were obviously flagged for said activities. However, Anet has a pathetic track record of dropping the ball on monitoring flagged players and instead of investigating whether or not the player in question was ACTUALLY botting, they're just clicking ban flagged accounts. I feel like instead of wasting time wondering what we were banned for we need to focus time on getting a hold of people who can DO something about this error.

From what I see they only banned VM-Ware users Shazbawt saw it & insta banned but missed a few along with banned a few extra's. I don't think it was done as complex as people think.

my reasoning for wanting to know what I did is simple: I still have 2 accounts and would like to continue to play on them. Is there a program on my computer that is flagging them as 3rd party (did my texmod go wiggy and now shows up as 3rd party) since I do not have any programs that should be interacting with the game (I have up usually 2 web browsers, some microsoft office documents, etc....NONE of these should be doing anything to the game--my computer, yes, they have a tendency to hog memory causing low fps and such).
Is running no longer allowed--so I dont do this on my accounts in the future (and also as an admin here I would like to make sure that we are not violating EULA with offering threads for such).
I want to ensure that I can continue to play---they have said both that they will allow those who have banned accounts other accounts as well as saying they would NOT allow them (which is it?????) I do not wish to be banned again.
(to ensure I am not seen as a bot I have a tendency now to not do the same quest/mission/etc on more than one character, I will talk to the air, emote, open my inventory and take out a mini, change armor, etc at random times)

It seems like you're walking in circles over and over again, as many pages ago I've already pointed to you the reason which most-likely have caused the blocking in your case, that is the breach of the 24th Article of RoC. What I still don't get is the thing you're exactly trying to achieve by discussing it with the passing-by strangers here instead of resolving the situation by maintaining a direct conversation with Guild Wars Support.

The problem is we have difficulty to get support. My ticket is pending for nearly 3 weeks and no support response yet. I can see the ticket running nunbers is like more than 100k in queue. Imagine if they have only 10 support personnel. How long we are going to wait. So we cry here and comfort one another as we all love gw.

support????? Exactly to whom should I be speaking---the ONLY way to 'contact' them is thru the ticket system which, as has been mentioned multiple times, is backed up by months now and it seems as if the only tickets they are dealing with are those dealing with gw2 (eg password resests and authenticator issues), there are people posting in the 7 days or old thread who have tickets from december!
so yes, I have also been waiting more than 2 weeks to hear back--and I will assume that their response will be the canned 'there is no appeal' suckupandbust response. How are you supposed to have a 'direct and meaningful conversation' with that?
I think we are keeping the thread alive to find out if any one has received a real response from anet support (not the 'there is no appeal-get lost' one).

To Cosyfiep: if you know you did nothing wrong, why would the waiting time make you feel anyhow inconvenient, if you believe a mistake was made and review of the case is actually possible? Yes, it would probably take many months, not only a single one to get it all settled down, but in the end, what you did doesn't seem to qualify for a permanent termination of the account, at least that's how it appears to me from the story you told here. However, I truly don't see the point of over-extensively walking around it in this thread.

I bought my wife gw and all add on's for christmas and have run one of her characters through nearly all of the games so that she has one character that has everything open.
So far no ban (phew), but I check this thread every time I log onto guru, hoping that this situation has been resolved as a little voice inside me is worried that if they can do this to others then they could do it to me.
If, however, I no longer wish to see what passing-by strangers are saying about this, then I will not walk in circles, I will do the obvious thing and stop clicking on this thread and reading about it.

Only when you are innocent and you get banned. Then you can understand us. Let us have this place to share with others and let other people know how bad is the current support is.
We also would like to hear anyone who appeal get a response? It is really unfair that the ban on me and all my family members account that are unders my email address being ban.
----------
I have a regular friend who form full team to go underworld. Without a complete team, they are affected too. I don't bot and got a bot banned is of coz feel puzzle. The appeal simple took too long hence would love to hear if any appeal folk got a single response.

If you were tossed in jail without a reason and left there for weeks without anyone on the outside informing you of why, would you not also speak up and ask questions? Would you not question WHY the &$#@ you have been tossed in here? wouldnt you talk to the others in the same cell as you? (and upon finding out that some of them had similar experiences ask questions and updates about their 'luck' with getting answers?)
And knowing you have done nothing to warrant this treatment--get more upset because nothing is being done about the situation or would you just quietly sit in the corner and wait for your sentence (knowing that others have been told the sentence is execution!)
Would, at that point, you not try to get someone on the outsides attention and get out of there?
I guess not, Smoke Nightvogue. I guess you believe in the system that the innocent will always get out, let me tell you I was just watching the news and a guy who had been in jail for 30 YEARS for a crime he did NOT commit was just let out when the dna evidence was finally ran and it wasnt his! Would you have sat in jail for 30+ years quietly? (in 30 years I will be almost 80, not where I would want to spend my retirement years quite honestly).

Did I say anything about the absence of reason, which was pointed out once more a few posts above to you? I have spoken of scalable severity for various breaches of the rules, not of how someone who deems him/herself innocent for the faults they might unknowingly committed should not be temporarily blocked for crossing the line at all. There is a difference between these two circumstances, really. Whether you accept it or not, that's the situation you're currently in, and exchanging your concerns with GMs after they have provided you information associated with the suspension of your accounts is the only way which might help to resolve this in a positive outcome for you, the alternate options aren't here, no matter the urge with which the stories of undoubted innocence are delivered through this forum.

the purpose of my posts is to find out information--from whatever sources. THAT is why I continue to post. I understand that there is no one here to help us, that is not the purpose of the posts! The CS people are not bothering with gw tickets and waiting months is NOT acceptable to most companies in the world! And from what others have stated, even IF they reply its 'go away'. They are not providing ANY information whatsoever, they are not bothering to reply or update tickets. So posting now is to find out if anyone else HAS gotten a response, what that response was, etc.

You know, you don't HAVE to click on this thread. But please, keep assuming we are nothing more than plebs and have not looked over the EULA and staff written FAQ's about these issues. Please keep assuming we have no idea as to what the difference between legal and illegal behavior is.
Your posts wreak of condescension and it's really bugging me. Are a lot of us guilty? Sure. Are ALL of us guilty? Definitely not, and maybe the one thing we have right now is to talk about it here. I have no idea what your experience with Guild Wars is, but coming as someone who started playing a couple months after launch, I practically grew up playing this game. So please, post more about rules we've already read over and how we all realize how irrelevant this thread is. It's not only wasting your time, it's a waste of everyone who has to sift through 24 pages looking for some useful information on this topic.
Normally I ignore negative posts, but you seem like an intelligent being, so I figured I'd give you a piece of my mind. End rant.

So I half-assed tried to get some of my alt accounts unbanned that were caught in this mix-up. I want to share with you all pieces of the response I received and kinda explain where their heads are at.
Quote:
Contact Name and Title: Guild Wars Support
None of ______ accounts will be reinstated. You have a long history of violating our policies, abusing our support staff, and attempting to circumvent our security measures.
|
In this regard, the accounts I have used and currently used have never had contact with the support staff. The interaction they are referring to would be my original account. The one that was banned in the ban wave 5-6 years ago (whenever that was).
Quote:
The large number of accounts ______ uses is consistent with behavior we have observed from you in the past involving multiple and egregious violations of our User Agreement.
|
I have only been banned on my main 5-6 years ago for using a chest bot.
Quote:
Whether ______ has used a "bot" on a given account is irrelevant. Given your history, we are confident that you are unable or unwilling to follow the rules, and therefore we are unwilling to keep giving him chances to break them. When you agreed to the User Agreement, _______ agreed that penalties imposed on any one of your accounts could be imposed upon all of them, at our discretion.
|
Assumptions assumptions assumptions. Oh, and the fact that none of the alt accounts banned had a "history".
Basically here is what you can take from this excerpt:
*You do not get a clean slate when you buy a new account after being banned.
*Anything you have ever done in this game or interacted with NCSoft will and can be held against you (and will most likely be taken out of context).
*Anet does not care if you botted or not. If they think you did, that is good enough for them.
As far as their detection method and time frame? I still don't have a solid understanding. They mentioned this:
Quote:
From January 8th through 14th of this year, at least eleven accounts were accessed by _________.
|
However, there are alt accounts that I have not touched in literally 6 months that are not mine and were banned. I have accounts that I touched 2 months ago that I touched and were not banned. Hell, even my main is safe right now. But I have zero interest in logging on it due to all the circumstances that have occurred this past month.
For those who are banned and wanting to know what the reason was... You won't get an answer that satisfies you. They will tell you it was third party software whether it is VMWare or botting. They won't say what was detected. In the past they say specifically that they won't disclose specifics because it would help you circumvent their detections in the future.

I'll be honest, I was a bit sceptical about so many people being banned for no reason. But I'm a believer now. I just got banned, for the same reasons as everyone else in this thread.
I have NEVER touched a bot or done anything in violation on the EULA. EVER. And I just had both my accounts banned. Sitting here just crying my eyes out now.. I know that'll seem silly to most, but my accounts meant a lot to me.. I cant believe theyd do this, its insane.
