I found that thread too. Looks like more Chris Cleary boobery.

He couldn't tell the difference between a gold seller and a bunch of people using wtfast. So instead of locking the accounts as a preventative measure, he just went ahead and perma-banned them all.

At least he's actually looking into his latest screw up to see if he can fix it. Unlike when he went perma-ban crazy with GW1 because he was hallucinating about bots and hackers crawling on the walls.

Ponder this. Notice when there is a GW1 thread about Shazbawt F'ing up he locks it down because “the forums are not the location to appeal a ban.” But when there is a GW2 thread about Shazbawt F'ing up he posts an explanation to the situation, and the forum remains unlocked.

is that guy half of the new anet? if so, many people who play GW will stop, and wont think about GW2, and those who play both might quit both

either way, i think we'll lose anet about a year or 2, as they will lose us, this way

whats next? we get banned cuz we play the same game, or are in the same district? i mean, they did ban people (not perma back then) for farming tombs and outside bergen cuz bots did so too
i'm even more scared now to be banned
not only alot of money in my main account, but also alot of time and feeling in it

to be honest, i am preparing to see GW going down.... but when that happens (apologies to GW2 fans in advance) i hope to see GW2 going slowly, too, without a 10th anniversary

but this is all my thoughts, i just had to let it out

if GW should really be abandoned, let someone who can take care of it, take it over, and give us alot of stuff we want (not in items, but suggestions... no nerfs for pve again) and let bots and goldsellers suffer ON THEIR OWN, NOT the innocent people

If I ever had any iota of an interest in GW2 before, I definitely don't now. I've had interest before but I don't see it happening again. Also, I don't care to go through a long learning curve for another game. But if I were to do that, I'll go with some other company. Maybe console based so I don't have to worry about if I have the right video card set up or good enough DDR3 ram sticks or whatever. That's what I liked about consoles. Everyone has the same hardware peformance. It's just the flatscreen and audio that's up to us.

Also I'm not aware of botting on console games. I'm not sure if it's possible, at least on a large scale. So hopefully, if I ever decide to try a console based online game, things won't go bats*** ban-crazy to the point of losing people I get to know and possibly my own account. Maybe Microsoft should pay Anet a kickback for sending people to Xbox gaming.

Has anyone been banned in the past week? Anybody been using multilaunch and texmod without issues again? I am hoping they have at least corrected things so we don't need to worry about those again even if they weren't the original issue(since it is a bit unclear what the original problem was).

Well I just learned that the Feb 14th ban was because they were looking for me.
and here's why. the VMware connected to me was "insider office" as I was trying to fix this issue
a lot of innocent people got banned because of this for this I am truly sorry I really had no clue apparently I am well known to the security team. copy this and figure this out I wouldn't want to see this happen to anyone else. here is what is being perceived as bots. "everyone check your routers" this is live from my router page right now.

well, that would explain one group, but not the ones done on the 19th of january, the 29th of january nor the ones on the 17th of february....or the group last was banned when most of those were unbanned on the 19th of february...
so not much help there, but glad you got an answer.

Well this is new...

Did anyone else get an "Authorize log-in attempt" email after they signed into Guild Wars? I seem to have received one for every time I signed in for the last few days.

This is common for Guild Wars 2, for every time you log in from a new IP address. But I've never seen this for Guild Wars 1 before. Also, it didn't actually prevent me from logging in to Guild Wars 1.

I know of, until I became aware of it, and trying to find it, and figure it out, and where it came from, and I make one post here and guess what? Not another ping to it since then. magic right

What does all of this mean? I was banned on the 17th too, but is the reason why hidden in this garblygook of code somewhere?

Banned for vmware? Couldn't be that since I've never installed it in my life.

The router? I don't know what settings would put up a flag for GW1. But I assume that Shazbawt would know that a router assigns it's own IP address's to the computers on it's internal network.

We're also running a software firewall over here. Never had a problem with that in any other game before. I wonder if it's blocking some info that Shazbawt wants to receive - perma-ban offense if he doesn't get it.

It's all speculation here.

well there is something of an answer. random ip pinged to you while on GW and them tracking trying to find accounts tied to them IP's. I guess that could explain mass bannings trying to put a stop to the botting, im not sure that it will b enough to unban the rest of the innocent ppl, I fear its too little too late might just have to buy myself a new copy and start all over again. all them titles gone. oh well

nope not getting that and I have logged into a few of my accounts today (taking screenshots and talking to myself along the way...)

as for a firewall, I think lots of people have them (not safe to NOT have one!) and that would still not explain why my accounts were banned and my husbands was not.....
also no vmware here. no reason to have it (heck, no idea what it even IS

)...only good ole texmod (now retired, will be doing carto the old fashioned way---just not doing it at all).

Actually, a firewall is perimeter security with holes in it... its really not safe to think not having a firewall isnt safe and its equally not safe to think behind a firewall everything is safe ^^

Guildmate of mine was banned on the first wave, January 15. She protested but bought a new game two days later. She has played the new account every day since. Nine days ago she tried her two banned accounts and could log in again -- like there'd been no interuption. Two days ago she received a letter from Anet ... Anet apologized for banning her. Said she was innocent. At least they apologized, and quite nicely too.

kinda late to say , gee we messed up and locked your accounts for over a month, but hey, you were innocent --sorry....but good to hear she got her accounts back.

and yeah, firewalls are only a start, kind of like having a door on your house, need a lock and such as well, but its a place to start.
