Default Forum Guidelines

Welcome to the Guild Wars Guru Forums! We're happy to have you here with us, and hope that you find your time here enjoyable. In the interests of keeping these forums tip top, we ask that you please observe and adhere to the following guidelines:
  • Sig Rules
Signatures are great as long as they are not overbearing. The purpose of the forum is to read informative posts, and not to be distracted by large sigs. Hence, we must enforce a sig. height limit. Keep it small and simple. Posters here are restricted to a graphic signature 120 pixels tall by 500 pixels wide with a file size of less than 50kb OR 3 lines of text. A combination of the two can be made and you can have a graphic signature and one, two, or three lines of text but for each line of text your signature's image must be reduced in size by 20 pixels of height. NOTE: Signatures are temporarily disabled until we can get our bandwidth costs back under control. Once restored these rules will be back in full force.

  • No Flaming
This one is pretty straightforward. We encourage discussion and healthy debate, and personal attacks are not warranted in either. If you cannot be respectful to others, then don't be surprised if those in charge are not respectful of your continued privelege to post.

  • No Spamming
Your post count - no matter how impressive a high number might look - is irrelevant here. Therefore, please do not spam these forums, or such posts will be deleted. If you're unsure what is, and isn't spamming - a good general guideline is to look at what you're posting and ask yourself: "Does this add to or advance the thread in a constructive way?" If you answered 'Yes', then you're probably good to go. For examples of, and more information on spam posts, please refer here.

  • No Advertising
If you're only registering to make a post advertising your site / miracle bath ointment / whatever, once and then leaving - you can expect your post to follow you on the way out. This isn't anything personal - if you would like to link your site / guild's page / miracle bath ointment / whatever, use a (reasonably sized) banner image or link in your signature - or talk to us about being linked from our site. That isn't so bad, now is it?

  • Be Not Naughty
Don't post / link to pornography, warez, illegal material or offensive content. Also, please be mindful of your language. Message boards of these nature draw many different kinds of people, and people of different ages - observing these rules is just good common sense and etiquette when dealing with others.

  • Do Not Abuse The English Language
This is a message board, not an AOL chatroom. As such, you have all the time necessary to articulate your posts in a coherent matter. "You" is only two more letters than "u", it won't kill you to type them. Completely illegible posts are subject to moderation - and I can't guarantee their accuracy of 'translating' the authors original message, if you get my drift. When one punctuation works (like a ?) instead of 10 (like ?!?!), use one.

  • Do Not Double Post
In these forums, a double posts consists of any two consecutive posts from the same user. It does not matter whether or not the contents differ -- if no one else's words or opinions come between two posts from the same person, it's a double post. Since the forums are growing extremely fast, and the moderators have limited time, those who ignore the edit button and repeatedly double/triple/quadruple post can have their second, third, fourth, etc, posts deleted without notice, and without having their contents pasted onto the first post as per usual.

As the EDIT button will never disappear, you can always go back to edit your last post and add new thoughts. The practice of "bumping" is highly discouraged in these forums. If people wish to respond to your thread, they will add their opinions without the need of repeated spammed "bumps." Repeated "bumping" of a thread will most likely lead to the thread's deletion, instead.

  • Warnings
A warning may be issued for violating any of these guidelines. Warnings will be delivered through PMs and when you have recieved four warnings you will be temporarily banned for a period of three days. If you break the rules again after that you'll be permanently banned, no questions, no excuses. However, depending on the severity of violations, disciplinary measures may vary. Please note that some subforums such as trade have their own guidelines and rules.

Observing these rules helps us keep these forums the best they can be, and that's the most important thing - that people enjoy being here, and having a good time. A game on a massively multiplayer scale such as Guild Wars - no matter how good - is still just a game, the thing that will truly make it great is the community that is playing it. So let us all enjoy the springtime of our youth - this is the way a forum should be!
