Default Missile Weapon Change

Not sure if anyone else has noticed, but the Missile Weapon Properties in the guide section has some useful new content. The range of each bow has now been added, and trajectory has now been replaced with flight time.

I'll have to ask though Ensign, what were your measures when you recorded flight time? i.e. the time it was in the air while you were 60' away from the target, etc.

Flight times are measured from 70' - better known as Short Bow range.

Those flight times are not exact, by the way - the margin of error on a single, one second flight arrow is just too high. Basically it was determined that the slowest time-to-target bow was the Flatbow, and that it took roughly one second for an arrow from one to reach the target. With Favorable Winds up, a Flatbow looks an awful lot like a Composite Bow. The rest are extrapolated from those two data points - Longbows and Horn Bows are about halfway between Flat and Composite Bows, and Short Bows get to the target a bit faster than those.

Not perfect numbers, but pretty close.

Peace,

The real question is WHEN did you record these flight times? Certainly not in the last event or they would've been updated already, no?

Or I could be totally off and maybe you did record them in the last event...

Never underestimate how lazy an individual can be. I have all sorts of stuff in my notes that I haven't converted into a coherent, article-friendly format yet. Hell, look at the Fast Casting tables - I didn't post those until a few days ago and I've known that equation for months.

Or, more specifically - no, these bow stats are not new, they just haven't been posted here until now. I would not be surprised in the least if changes since the last BWE has rendered some of this data obsolete. That's just how these things work.

Peace,

i have a question, I'll use the Flatbow for my example.
Flatbow
Refire: 2.0 seconds
Distance: 100'
Flgiht Time: 1.0 seconds

Now what I am wondering is, say I shoot the flatbow from 50', does that mean my arrow only traveles in the air for 0.5 seconds? or is it like, no matter where i shoot it from, my arrow will stay airborne or 1 second?

FLight times were measured very qualitatively. They're just there to give you a rough estimate of the relative arrow speeds of all the bows.

As to your exact question, it roughly takes a flatbow 1 second to hit from 70' (short bow range). I couldn't say for sure, but I'd expect flight time to roughly halve if you halve the range (to 35', which is about the radius of a ward).

In my personal experience, and without the help of any nifty-cool equations like Ensign has, it seems that no matter what distance you're, the time it takes to be able to fire again is a constant...

Since that probably only makes sense in my mind, I'll try to clarify...

Example:
I spotted an enemy lurking on a flat field, and proceeded to attack it. I was at the maximum range allowed for my bow, and after hitting with my first shot, the monster became hostile and closed in on my position. The flight time was just about 1 second, and the refire time was about 2 seconds. However, as the monster closed the gap between us, the total time it took to complete the firing motion seemed to stay the same. Although the flight time was noticeably less, since the monster was directly in front of me, there seemed to be a lag on how much time it took for me to be able to refire my bow. So at close range, flight time was significantly less, but reload time seemed to take longer, and the overall rate of attack stayed constant.

Am I totally off here, or is there any validation to this? This is just how it seemed to me, maybe somebody took the time to actually figure it out. If so, I'd be interested in seeing the results.

P.S. Just checked out your profile Ensign, and wanted to say Happy (early) Birthday before it slipped my mind...

Err, reload time measured from the time you fired the bow remains constant. It would only appear to take longer if you were measuring from the time the arrow hit rather than from when it was fired, but it wouldn't make much sense to measure it that way. Reload time and thus overall attack rate is constant regardless of target distance/flight time.

Yeah, sorry about that, I just kind of went on a random blurb and starting spitting things out, didn't really stop to think about what I was actually saying
