I've thought about this myself (Mostly in conjunction with setting up a challenge for the Staff Cup around here. No, not the cup THX wears when he plays hockey, no, an informal challenge to see which admin could field the best team and claim the crowd of Pwnage Guru.) and concluded it's rather pointless. The problem being that the only reliable way to matchup teams would be through arranged challenge GvG matches and, if I'm not mistaken, there's a limit on how many times you can challenge a certain guild in a given timeframe. Such challenges also don't affect the ladder ranking at all so you'd need some way of authenticating the matches and making sure they're being played fairly. I suppose you could play round robin and make up a points system or something like that but it seems like a lot of hassle to go through. Maybe if we had an arranged challenge Arena of some sort for quick and easy match making and fighting, complete with observers...
That said, I'd love to see informal leagues, ladders, and tournaments develop and I, for one, would certainly try and take part in them. I'm just not sure they're feasable or practical. But, hey, if someone else wants to do the legwork, I'll gladly reap the benefits.
