Default This a viable life in GW?

Hey there I'm a long time player of MMO's and similar games like D2 and PSO and look forward to playing Guild Wars this coming week.

Now I didn't get into the betas but I do like what I see enough to dive in. What I am wondering from those that do have experience is the style of play. I don't think I really want to participate in large scale pvp 24-7 but I do want to play with the eleventy billion optiuons you have setting up the classes.

So with my aim being more toward tickering with options over hardcore pvp should this game keep me hook for a long time you think? I do want to pvp but playing with the skill system is more appealing to me than trying to get to the top of the food chain.

Your thoughts if you could.

Mulk player of to many games.

This game has been built in such a way that once you have unlocked a skill through PvE you are free to use it as often as you like in PvP and the Tombs is perfect for a bit of casual PvP and the arenas too, good for testing out indivdual builds (some ppl might disagree with me on this)

Cool thanks for the info. And before anyone ask I was super insanely hardcore in EQ and was headed that way in WoW. But I just don't want a game anymore that is powergaming tilted. I just want a game that I can kick back and relax in for a change.

Well see in in a few days I'm sure.

Well, I wouldnt put it so lightly that this game is relaxing.

-BUT-

There's a LOT less stress on this game than EQ or D2.
You don't lose Exp or Delevel.

Characters are very interchangeable. Each profession has 75 skills and then add a secondary profession for additional sortment of skills.

If you screw up on building your character, you can always refund the points very easily. THe only limit to refunding attributes is you only have up to 24 refunds at one time, though you ALWAYS get more every 250 Exp you earn.

Also in the future you will be able to change your characters second profession as well.

Oh and the UI system is also great in this game, you can literally customize the UI to whatever you want. If you want your health bar at the top, then you can do so. If you don't want a health bar, you can do that too.

The game is alot more fun than any other mmorpg (Corpg) ive ever played. You can literaly sit back and watch the rest of your team fight, some monsters even fight EACHOTHER! i mean, whats cooler then that? soo many things in this game are customizable, armor, guild capes, even the heads up display!

I must say that you will probably love this game, maybe not as much as I do, but you will love it.

If you enjoyed the powergaming or grinding of EQ, then this game may not be for you, though. You'll max out at level 20, and after that it's skill and bringing 8 good skills into the match, not having whacked at monsters for a longer period of time.

I have been waiting for GW to come out since Jan. I got EQ II for Christmas but quickly found out it had a monthly fee. Returned it and did my research. I found GW and it looked perfect. I never dreamed it would become this popular before it was even released.

Now after patiently waiting all this time it is finnally coming out. Hastings ( a ALL gaming, movie, CD, store ) said that when a new game comes out it usally goes on sale. SO I didn't get the pre-order box. So my question is:

Will it be difficult for me to learn everything once I get the game? Will everyone that participated in the Beta's have a advantage over me?

I am a fast learning at games usually. As long as I have someone there to explain the blank spots. I am open to have people on my MSN messenger that will have this game. E-mail = [email protected]. Feel free to add me.

But I don't want to be left behind once I get the game just because I didn't get the pre-order box.

If you want to tinker with all the combinations in skills, that may take a while...so I think this is a viable life in Guild Wars. If only wed. could come faster

In any game anyone who has played more has a slight advantage, of course. It would be easy to catch up though. Character-wise everyone's starting from square one, and experience-wise you're looking at like 500 hours for the really dedicated beta player.

after day 2 or 3 you will be into the game, and know almost everything ull need, (that is...if your slow) and yes the people will have a slight advantage, knowing what classes work well together etc, but you will catch on quickly

I have been doing as much research on it as I possibly can. I want to be a Ranger/Monk. But I am confused. As I seen in the skills the ranger has it shows the bow being used. Is ranger the only one that can use a bow?

And is Monk ONLY used for healing or does it have some hidden attacks somewhere?

any class can use a bow, rangers are just best with them, monks have smiting prayers and can attack via their wand. this is a ranged attack that can be quite strong if the wand is a good one

Umm... Ok I understand a lot better now. I have seen somwhere that you can get in parties and do the quest together. I think I saw somewhere about campsites. So my question is:

Do you make campsites?

And If you do, what if you are with your party but you have to logg off. And when you log back on they are gone?

The Guild Wars universe is essentially missions and quests in explorable areas, with safe towns, which could be classed as campsites i suppose, as meeting places. When you are in the towns, you can interact with everyone else in the game, and form a party for the next mission. The party size can vary from 2 to 8 depending on the mission. When you start the mission, then you effectively become isolated from the rest of the people in the world except the people you joined up with to form a party. Once the mission ends, you return to one of the town areas. If you leave the party at any time during a mission, you will not be able to rejoin the party until they finish the mission.

If I get this game and download it and everything, is it possible that it will slow my computer? Such as my internet ext.?

Yeah dont worry, the game is very easy to pick up. Had a few die hard FPS players try out the game, they were able to understand it within an hr.

As for your computer, depends on your system specs. If you meet the minimum requirements, I wouldnt reccomend running more then GW and say a voice client at the same time, where as if you exceed the requirements, primairly in your graphics card and RAM, its not going to be a major deal. Clean system, defragged HDD and you should be fine.

Net wise you will only bog your connection when you are loading up an area you have never been in before or updating your client, past that what ever in game data you receive isnt greater then what you would expect from a normal multiplayer game

No!! No!! Not the grind make it stop. /cries

Thanks NilePenguin you have indeed proved this game is in fact for me. I only did what I did in EQ because it was the only game in town for advancement. To know that this game will drive nutty anyone approaching from the "phat loots" pov fills me with joy.

Also like to say I love the GW community I have been doing alot of research today on various boards. While all the boards are full of great people I'd say this one is simply amazing especially versus the WoW boards.

Once again thanks for all the info and help.
