Ascension is Arena Net's term for reaching level 20. I don't know if there is something else you must do once you get to level 20, but that's at least the minimum requirement.

Many have written:
you can wind up with every skill in the game unlocked and available for you
(with a single character)

Some clarification please - If you're a Primary Monk for example, I was under the impression that skills in the other Primary professions would be unavailable

So a Primary Monk would not be able to unlock or use
Warrior - Strength skills
Mesmer - Fast Casting
Elementalist - Energy Storage
Necro - Soul Reaping
Ranger - Expertise

You will need a Primary X to open Primary X skills

So can a Primary Monk use /open other professions primary skills??

i hope not.

is this there way of not making you start from scratch to get all the skills for you pvp char? because you could travel to buy your skills for all classes once you reach lvl 20 in a day (the ones you want for pvp anyway

The skills that will be rewards can they also still be purchased from Skill Trainers? That would be pretty bad since you could then gimp you character by wasting skillpoints on skills that are free. Is Already happening with pre-acalon a little, isn't it?

As far as I know you can still use primary skills from other professions, so I don't see why they should be unlockable. Obviously they can only be at attribute 0 though.

A primary warrior/secondary monk can learn Divine Favor skills, but he'll never be able to raise his Divine Favor attribute.

The same applies to any other profession combination. Viktor has it right- you can learn the skills from a sub-professions Primary attribute, but you'll never be able to raise them to a usable level.

Many skill-giving quests are profession-specific, so you'll be able to go back and complete ones for your new secondary profession after changing professions to get the skill rewards. However, some quests give skills based on your professions at the time: for example, "Helping the People of Ascalon" from Ambassador Zain rewards two skills- one for each of your professions at the time. I did it with an N/Mo and got vile touch and mending- I'd assume there's one skill for each class that it will reward, and you'll get the skills for your primary and secondary class at the time you complete the quest. I don't believe these quests will be repeatable, so there might be some skills that you'll have to either spend the skill points/gold on, or else create a new character for.

I know at least as of this last BWE, many of the skills available from the AC skill trader were available via skill quests- my recommendation would probably be to buy as few skills from the trainers as you can until you can find out which skills can be gained via quests.

However, as with any character, you can only use the skills dictated by that character's two professions.

Now, for individual character learning - Yes, you can learn all of the skills in game, and they will be stored on that character - but the ones that are currently available to you are based on your current Primary and Secondary subclasses. When you switch your subclass, all of the skills you had for it previously will come back. You're not 'losing' skills this way, it is instead that the ones in professions you don't currently have are not displayed. This way, we don't have prism-esque characters running around with skills from all six professions at once.
Okay I get the General idea, But does this mean if you change your subclass you will lose your point put into your skill that you purchased also?

You're asking if you'll regain skill points to reinvest in skills for your new subclass?

If so, I would guess no because it means you have potential access to those skills in the future when you switch back to that subclass.

If you want to save on skill points though, you can nab the free skills that are offered outside of Pre-searing Ascalon City and Yak's Bend before buying new skills. It'd be a heck of a wait though.
