Well, since a couple Betas ago, the multiplyed all the gold supply in the game by 10. So prices have gone up 10 times but there is 10 times more gold (cause before they couldn't give fractions of a gold coin so 5 gold is = to .5 gold).
I don't know the exact prices of them. They will probably go up and down. It would be nice if the Gurus could piece together a general guidelines list on prices.

Nope, I'm talking steel. It's not common as dirt like hides, but it isn't rare either.

haha... Black is the rarest dye that exists. With Silver being in second place. You could have sold that for over a plat!

Actually Steel is not common and is not cheap as dirt... It is uncommon and takes a lot of Iron ingots and gold. What you think making it is cheap? I was during the last BWE 1 of the most wealth people, but when it comes down to it I could make Steel which I had resources though, not buy it cheap. In fact the last I knew steel was going for 500g at the least and that was for 1 ingot of steel..
As for the dye, oh well.... Easy come easy go.... I did what ScottishLegend did, sell it for cheap or gave it away and like he said,"He didn't need it". Neither did I. What's the use in having everything, except the best for yourslef? I did!

he never said its cheap as dirt, he said its not common like dirt is, but it isnt rare, so he basically said its an uncommon material, not rare, not common.

Not sure if you've read my post correctly.
Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if you're paying through the nose making a material you could otherwise salvage for, what you get in reliability you're paying in price.

I think trading is a neat part of the game and all but once you get later in the game youll have more money then you know what to do with so in long run it really doesnt matter if you trade with gold.
I didnt farm but by the end of the last bWE I had 7 Platiunum with nothing to buy i could see solo farmer having at least 20 plat

Well then don't believe, I salvaged about 5 steel ingots that weekend, and that was only from salvaging weapons that I thought might have had a special haft or grip.
Edit: and to follow up Orange's post, the likelyhood of getting runes and rare materials from salvage increases with how high end the salvage is.

It was funny how jaded some people were. I never sold steel for under 150 gp, but some people felt 30 gp was a lot for a steel ingot. Of course, those people were the ones buying it, not selling it. If you go to lion's arch, people will spend absolutely nothing on items, they expect to get everything for prices as if the gold hasn't multiplied by 10. just name your price when you say you're selling, and they'll harrass you less. Some people will pay lots more than you're asking, some people feel it's their godgiven right to get a steel ingot for 10 gp. oh and I got 11 steel.
