Default Going Platinum

I was just curious. What is the best way to get platinum? I was trying to purchase a cape but it said that it costs two platinum which I assume is 2000 gold. But of course, I don't have that much. I was wondering how others get it so fast?

The money really does come in droves later in the game. I dont have alot myself, just 8k, where others have upwards of 20k. As you play, the further into the game you get, the mmore money drops are worth. It adds up quickly later on.

Farmed 2K gold while in Pre-As, ended up a level 9 when leaving the n00b area.

That seems a little backwards, aren't you supposed to level up *then* farm gold? What's the point of hanging out farming items that sell for 3gp when you could use the time to proceed in the game into areas that drop items that sell for 30gp?

"Back to your original post, questing, finding, Identifing, and selling or inotherwords....the Grind

How you ask can some people get to 20k in 12 days, thats easy they have NO life and can play for 100+ hours during that timeframe."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

20k in 12 days? I made 10k in just a little more than 2 days

I didn't play long, considering I got a fiery dragon sword of wounding 15-23( inceeases time of wounds on enemy), wich gave me 3k ish, and I also managed to get myself a few major's to sell.

Luck is what I call it

Most of the loot I get is 30GP a piece. I can do a mission and get a full inv of loot. That is about 1.5k right there usually.

well, later on, around Riverside Province and stuff, you can salvage items with an expert and get, say, 30 piles of glittering dust... then, you go to your materials trader and see how much it will sell for... if its not much, the merchants will always sell for a whole buttload... so, that is one way to make easy cash!

well, i only have about 1400 gold right now... sadly... but im workin on it... very easy to get it in Riverside

Seriously, money really comes a lot easier later on. Most salvageable items sell for seomthing like 25-30 gold, and the precious mod stuff sell from 50-150 gold.

Quick comment here, for people looking to earn upwards of 10k in a day, try farming Bog Skale Blighters and Lightning/Grand Drakes outside Fishermen's Haven. Both are quite easy to kill and drop significant amounts of gold and/or fairly valuable items. I was able to afford an entire set of 15k armor in just 2-3 days using this method.

I've found I don't really need to farm. Got over 10k just playing as usual, going from mission to mission and EA to EA. I may do more exploring than average, however -- I believe I've now been in every EA you can get to without doing the Sanctum Cay mission, save for those south of Lornar's Pass.

And yes, the drakes near Fisherman's Haven and Sanctum Cay are easy. I was cutting through them with a level 11 R/E and some henchies. However, the Elite Tengu in the area are vicious for a level 11 ranger. After the first encounter, I decided to just sneak by them. (Of course, now that said ranger is level 14, I should run through there again and see if I can take them on...)

I spent 4k on the guild cloak (the first design didn't come out exactly how I liked it ><) but I still have over 7k right now. I farm sometimes but mostly I prefer finding good drop items to actually getting a wadload of gold. Maybe it'll change later, but gold is not that important at this stage. Frankly I see this game going into a barter system where people will only trade rare item for rare item.

Go into buisiness. Sell stuff. Make money. If you don't care about being a dishonest moron, swindle noobs. I had accumulated some materials, and sold them to the materials trader, and got a couple platinum pieces almost by accident (i noticed only like 30 minutes later ).

dumb question: does the materials trader buy materials for more than the merchant?

This is excellent feedback. One more question. So will I make more money by using that salvage items icon in my bag and salvaging items and then selling them to a materials trader that way?

Well, what I do is I keep most of the items I receive in a mission. Usually a fourth of my loot goes to my Salvage Kits, an eighth is auctioned off for 300-400 gold a peice (runes and such), and half I sell to people in Ascalon. The rest I usually sell to new people. Usually these consist of the "Average" swords, bows, hammers that we find. I sell those fairly cheaply (10-15 more gold than I would get from a Merchant.) I find it fair because I am trading my 12-24 hammer to them for 50 gold or so and they love it (compared to their 6-13 hammer). Through this method, I can usually make 1.5-3 plat/hour. (Dont forget the gold drops)

So far, I have been able to raise 15plat towards buying my guild a Sigil. I could probably pay for it now if I ask for a simple plat from each member, but I enjoy the challenge

By the way, if you ever need some help with something, hit me up on GW.

Holy Shize

Sometimes (at least I think). I am pretty sure the merchant is always the same price while the traders prices fluctuate from high to low (and knowing is just a matter of experience). At one time, I sold iron ingots to the trader for 20 gold each (i think), but the merchant was still only offering his 5 gold a piece. Multiply 20*30 and that is 600 gold when at the merchant I would have only made 150 (a 400% increase?). But then, today, the trader was offering like 2 gold per iron ingot, and I just didn't sell (getting 5 per ingot barely covers the cost of the salvation kit (in most cases), but not labour and, if used, the identification kit costs.

Note: it wasn't a dumb question. it was a good question, but the answer could have come from just experiencing the game as well.

great response thanks! here's another questions for ya

do all the material traders have the same prices? I know they fluctuate, but when one traders prices fluctuate, do they ALL fluctuate at the same time? or are they all seperate, making me travel from city to city searching for the best deal whenver I need to sell some materials? I've tried looking around and comparing but its really hard to tell because the prices are always changing
