My goodness people, it was a phrase everyone was bandying about and usually abusing post 9/11. As of late these forums have become way too serious and once someone dons the disciplinarian mod hat, they lose their sense of humor: If you can't laugh anymore, the terrorists win again! I guess it's a consequence of not having a Serious Discussion forum so head on over to the Guild Hall and vent to me on that constantly-ressurected thread.
On topic, ANet committed the same sin with item targeting as they did with the "Unlock all skills" checkbox namely, they let us wolves get a taste of blood. Had there never been a button for item targeting, few people would care if it was added in or kept out. Same goes for Unlock all skills.
Of course it's a luxury and no one needs it however the inconvenience of not having it is uncomfortable enough to warrant comment.....if not change. It's impossible to prove either way but I'll bet there are plenty of dedicated bot writers that can still write a bot without an item targeting key much like anyone can still get sharp objects onto a plane. So the end result is that ANet (and the dept of homeland security) inconvenienced the masses to make life slightly more difficult for the worst among us. It's a rather poor trade-off but so be it -- add it to the list of ANet imperfections and we'll call it a day.
As to items vs skill -- that's a debate for the ages. Yes, the line falls somewhere in the middle but getting anyone to agree on where that line falls is an exercise in how to get a thread closed. Honestly, I don't care except to say that I'd like both camps to back off their "It's all about X" stance as I'm willing to do. I can't blame the "all about skill" camp though as ANet has held this as their mantra from day one.
