Default Arena: Who is your enemy?

Last PM I entered my first PvP action in Ascalon (up to level 10 I would guess).

I played with a pretty good group and it seems like they were able to see the classes and actually pick out a target prior to the gate opening. I asked and got a ctrl click the gate answer but I couldn't get that to work.

So how did they do it? I liked it.

Sometimes that works for me, sometimes it doesnt. If I stand near the gate and hit tab I will target the other team.

Yes, hit tab to cycle through enemy team if they are close enough.

So it was just tab plus and getting close to the gate gets barely within range.... interesting.

Or, getting close to the gate so you're barely in range and hold ctrl down. You can see the names of your enemies, then the person selected one and called the target by holding control and hitting space.

So it is basically a glitch that the gate is just close enough to allow you to cheat, in a sense.

O_o No, the ctrl key has always shown enemy targets. It's using the interface to impart information. You know, what it's supposed to do :P

Well, in that case it's a glitch, because later arenas don't allow you to do the same thing. There's a range on the control name display, and the door in the ascalon arena is just barely inside that range.

Almost all the arenas allow you to do this, actually. Just have to learn where to sit

Yes, you can do that pretty much anywhere you spawn near the enemy and they're close enough for them to show up when you press CTRL. Works in most Arenas and some Tombs maps even. It's commonly used to scout out the opposition and for target callers to memorize which targets are the most important. It worked even back in the Arena in E3. It's no more of a cheat or a glitch than using a voicechat or reconfiguring your hotkeys so that you can quick select a member of your party. It's just something that people who're acquainted with the game know about and might not be apparent to the rest.
