More likely they were 'raised' in a more tradtional MMO.
The ones that teach you that greed is good and uber lewt is king and you must zoom through to maximum level as quickly as possible to 'be' somebody. In other games, self-promotion becomes the goal...so egotism is an evolutionary advantage.
In this game, you aren't 'somebody' until you can show a guild near the top of the ranks. Team promotion is (or should be) the goal. This player can actually be a detriment to a team (as you pointed out).
