I ordered Guild Wars yesterday from www.play.com, I was hoping that it would arrive on Monday, but I think it's a bank holiday. Looks like I won't be playing until Tuesday. =(

I forgot to mention that Guild Wars on www.play.com is a very nice £17.99 w/ free delivery, get it while you can because it keeps going out of stock.

Default PCWorld is the worst place ever!

I had great difficulty buying a copy for my brother from PCWorld.

I rang up the PCworld sales line first to check that they had it in stock.

At first the person dealing with my call had never heard of it and couldnt bring it up on her 'screen'.

After a bit she spoke to someone else and said "oh yes here it is and you can buy a copy from your local store"

It takes 1 hour to get to my local store and much to my dismay when I got there I got..

"sorry, what game?"

I explained that I had called first.. so they went to check.

"sorry mate, it IS out today but we havnt bought any in because we didnt think it would sell as its an online game, buy it off the internet mate"

This exact same thing happened with Halflife 2, I swore I would never go there again.. but its the closest place to me

I did manage to go into a nearby city and pick one up from the ever reliable GAME in the end

The Snowman.

All the UK members of my guild have ordered online.

Stock of mmorpgs seems very low where I live (Edinburgh).

But I wonder if this is because since I started playing MMOs I have bought 90% less games! The prolonged lifespan must be a killer for retail chains. Sell one copy of guild wars and never see the customer again for months!!!!

Anyhow I bought the collectors edition online and I haven't seen a single box of that type in stores.

The University town of Bangor has an excess of copies in "Game", due to the simple reason that it's a town mostly populated by students. The vast majority of these students don't have a personal internet connection as well, so copies of Guild Wars are no use to them. I'm not sure about Gamestation, but I'm drinking buddies with most of the staff there, so I could always find out. I don't see them not stocking it, though, especially as one of them is a mad-keen GW fan from beta.

Myself and a friend of mine had quite some trouble locating copies of the game on Thursday, when it was released.

Firstly, we phoned the HMV stores in our area (Birmingham) to find that the 3 biggest branches had only taken in 4 copies each of the game, which were all sold out within minutes of the stores opening.

Comet retailers in the area had never heard of the game and didn't expect to get it in at all.

PC World said they would "Probably" have it in store on Friday 29th, but to this day still haven't got it.

In the end I managed to get both copies from a GAME store, but not from the City Centre. The game was NOT on display and had to ask for it as they have them all locked away in a cabinet due to the Disclaimer notice on the back of the box regarding the sealing of them.

I had mine on pre-order for weeks from Play.com (£17.99), but then at the last minute I cancelled it, as I wanted to play it over the weekend and my local post office are really bad at delivering stuff on time! I went to Chips (little franchised game shop), they had two copies in at £29.99, which wasn't such a big deal as they let you do trade-ins at Chips so I got rid of some old games and only paid £9.99 for it.
The guy behind the counter said he was surprised that they'd only got a few copies in, and it wasn't exactly flying off the shelves. Like the guy above said, no press, no reviews etc probably contributed to this, the only reason I heard about it was through people in my WoW guild talking about it (usually in the context of 'This game's getting boring, can't wait 'til Guild Wars comes out'!)

Well, I didn't buy in a shop per se, but I ordered online from Gameplay.co.uk back in the first day of easter (back then it was the only euro preorder place), and still haven't got it.
They claim they sent it Tuesday before release, but I haven't seen a confirmation email yet.
At least I hope I can get it before the weekend (and might not even get it thursday or friday, since that's holiday)

Anyways, just ranting/whining.

But still think it's bad service, since I preordered mainly to get it on release. And the only thing I need is a ******* 25 letter alphanumerical code.

Myself and several friends tried to get this game on release day. Game had sold out in about 5/6 stores in the Reading/Bracknell area. One guy said it had been more popular than expected as they only had 4 copies in. Gamestation had 1 copy, PCworld "never heard of it mate" virgin none on display, hmv none on display.

Eventually ordered from play to be told out of stock. Got it Tuesday gone, had my 1st session on Friday (real life getting in the way). Good game enjoying it so far.

I managed to get it on the initial release day in GAME, so a few stores had it in and I was quite lucky to have been playing it over a fortnight

And my sympathies to the people who are STILL waiting for their copy of GW. If it takes far too long, write to the company (Amazon, Play...) to cancel the delivery and search around many towns to find the game. Trust me, you'll never have to play another game again (OK maybe the GW expansions but STILL!)
