The major towns are the hubs of the economy and of people playing. Sometimes you'll get lucky and someone nice will answer a question or two. In really big major towns (Ascalon, Droknars etc) you'll find most people there doing business. Either trading, selling, or looking to buy stuff. Other towns it's usually people looking to form parties for farming runs, quests or missions. Unfortunately theres no set town to do such things as ask questions. However, Pre-Searing Ascalon can be a nice place, usually find alot of friendly faces there willing to help you out.

I ALWAYS say thanks... even if it was a disaster. Because we can learn from disasters too.
And I 90% of the time get a reply of thanks.
Often that has led to new guild members for my guild... or just adding someone to the friends list. One recent horrible disaster had the entire team laugh about it, stuck around, re-tooled our skills and tried again. We conquered that mission mightily the second time.
I find that GW is very karmic. If you treat folks nice, you get treated nice in return. I got help as a noob (and in some classes, still am a noob). I recently gave away 3 ranger minor runes to beginning characters. Just gave them away.
The next day, I saw an offer of a very good sword that would be perfect for my warrior build. I asked how much, the seller just wanted to pass it along at the Trader's price of 136. I saw the sword, it was perfect, I gave him 300 for it because it was nice of him to offer and I could afford it. See? Karma.
Marginal, Mav has good points. Also, as you continue on from 9th lvl, you will start to get to some really, really hard missions and quests. You'll find a more serious player and ones who know that helping you.. helps them. Cooperation becomes more stressed by the designers.... and sure, you can do it all with henchies... but it is often better to do it with other players!

I think we see this largely because the game requires no credit card to play. Yes there are mature younger gamers. Yes there are older gamers who are morons. Still, the majority of younger gamers just find things amusing that most of us don't (if I see one more penis/breast drawn on the minimap i'm going to cry). Unless the game goes pay to play it will always be that way.
Much like the diablo games you have to find a group of good players who are good people if you truely want to enjoy the game.
Personally, though, I don't answer questions in open channels because I talk on vent to friends while playing and usually dont pay attention to chat.

I always answer questions in town, and give advice to everyone and anyone... BUT, half the 'players' just spam in town and the other half of the 'players' dont even have their chat up! And then there's me helping out everyone : )
Has anyone noticed that at the crystal desert, if somebody dies, then they instantaneously leave... I've been stuck at Elona's Reach for at least 2 days and I havent even reached the dunes of despair...
(btw if someone could would you help me out at elona's reach? and help me reach the dunes of despair... I cant play today because my parents *glare* took the game away for today but, tomorrow I can play... I am not immature!)
And on the topic of monthly fee's my parents dont let me play any games with monthly fee's and I cant afford it because I dont get any money so I want INSANE waiting for GW to come out because of no monthly fee's (I got really mad when I realized that I had a 'patrol trip' to DC riding a plane from FL to DC on the day of release ...

[QUOTE=Candyman963]New player == "politically correct" term for someone who has not played the game long and thus does not know much about it
n00b == Disparaging remark directed at people who, regardless of the actual amount of playtime, seem to be much better at making other players hate them than actually playing the game effectively. General things to look out for: frequent unnecessary swearing, failure to effectively use any known language when communicating, inability to cooperate with others and accept constructive criticism, constant whining, other generally annoying and immature behaviors
For some comparisons, see below:
Looking for new areas:
New player - Hello all. Does anyone know how I can get to Granite Citadel?
n00b - OMFG sum1 take me to Granite Cit!!!!!1 Will pay lots! (which turns out to be 150gp)
idk if this was directed toward me cuz i posted n the forums saying i was tryng to get to granite citadel... i said im so frustrated im about to pay someone and i beleived i said 1k

I couldnt have said it better myself.
Notice that monthly fee games have a WAY better community, and not a servere overflow of 10 yr old leet kiddies?
I do.
Kinda makes me wanna start paying a monthly fee for this game.
Btw, in before the lock.
Im sure alota leet kiddies are gonna start flaming this thread, just like they do every other thread they misread, dont agree with, etc.

Wow, I did not know this topic would get so many posts on it. Well thank you for everything that had advice for me, and also to everyone that gave their oppinion. So at first I complained that I was not getting help in game, and I guess I could just ask a few simple "new player" questions to the community here.
1. As a player (level 9 W/N) should I attempt to do all the quests I can find, or should I pick the ones with the good rewards (good skills, weapons, etc.)?
2. How many towns are there (The ones that I can travel to via the map)?
3. How come I get 0 xp for killing some monsters?
4. And can anyone point me in a direction of how my attributes should turn out as a W/Nec?
Thank you in advanced to the people that answer my quesions.

Just a point: some of the rudest, most ignorant people I have ever met online have been quite old. Don't generalise.

1: It's up to your playing style. I try to do all the quests and missions that I can find in an area before moving on, and find it more rewarding as a result. Some people prefer to blaze through the game as fast as they can.
2: If you go to the main Guild Wars Guru page, there is a link in the menu called 'areas' or something, which lists most, if not all of them.
3: Eventually low-levelled mobs aren't really going to be much of a challenge for your hero to take down anymore. How much can you really learn from killing low-level Devourers over and over again? That's how I think of it, anyway. The bigger the level gap, the less experience you get. I'd like for them to get rid of 0exp baddies, though. It makes life tedious sometimes.v
4: Can't help you on that one, sorry. With my warrior character I've focussed on strength, tactics and swordsmanship, but it depends on what you want him/her to do really. And I've never been a Nec so I don't even know what attributes they have, sorry.

Last night I asked around to find out where an elite was located. Well...someone wanted me to give them a good bit of gold for a url list of elite locations. (which i already had looked at, duh!) I ended that conversation with a "f**k and you jerk" /ignore.
Completely unbelievable...but not the first time something like this has been seen in GW. These ignorant jerks are the exact reason why I fear joining a guild.
This game has more of a single player feel to it. Single player with "visitors." So..noone really gives a shit if you like them tomorrow.

Damn. I help anyone I can. Hell I give away things to help keep people on their way. Sometimes I find I don't respond to questions because 2-3 other people got to that person before me.

Actually Matt as far as generalization goes, It is a known fact that teens tend to be more immature and rude than older players.
That said, it is also known that "maturity" doesn't come with a number attached. So yes there are quite a few younger players that I'd rather team up with because they are good at the game and don't have immature, leet, or just plain arrogant attitudes.
Following in that line of thought, maturity again doesn't come with a number and there are some so called adults I think need to seriously re-evaluate themselves and how they interact with others.
Anonymity is a wonderful thing and it gives people an incredible freedom of expression that they might not otherwise enjoy on a daily basis.
But just because a person CAN act like an retarded elitist a$$hole, and say things to others that would make their parents wash their mouths out with soap regardless of age.. Doesn't mean it should be done. That is where maturity starts kicking in. And it is a nice thing when a young person realized the difference and tragedy when a theoretical adult can't seem to grasp the concept.
SO if you happen to fall into that group of younger folks that act more mature than is generally expected of your age bracket.. I didn't mean to offend. There should be more like you
And to the older people that act like a typical 12-year old.. Please grow up soon. You are giving all of us adults a bad name..

My best advice would be, when you find someone who is cool and plays mature then add them to your friends list right away. Cling to the people that you know are not idiots and eventually you'll find you're really in quite a large community.

I try to help everyone when possible, but since my guild uses teamspeak I don't usually look at the chat line when I'm in town. My advice would be to look around for a guild you like and join.
A note to the people who are demanding gold, answers or help. If you want someone to help you, ask nicely! And personally I hate leet speak or whatever it's called and will not answer or invite to team up anyone who types that way, I just figure that they are immature and not someone I wish to know.

At 19, I think of myself as a mid aged player of this game, not some 12 year old punk and yet not a golden oldie. Most of the people i meet on this game are coherent, intelligent, forthcoming... but then again i have 0 tolerence for the absurd, so i try to avoid them as much as possible. The game i came from before this was exactly the same way, and eventually the community split into 2 groups, the mature vs the immature from our point of view, but they always said the "1337" vs the "n00bz".I honestly hope this game goes down the same path, I'd love for some clear cut sign that tells me that i have a higher chance of getting along with a person or if i will most likely hate them outright. It was nice to log on and know exactly who your allies were, and who were your enemies.
