Best Monk Build
Hi,
I am very undecided when It comes to create my first charecter. I am getting GW tomarrow afternoon, so I don't have much time to decide.
What do u think would be the best monk build?
1- Mo/Me (prefer)
2- Mo/N (prefer)
3- Mo/Ele
4- Mo/R
5- Mo/W
I am planning on partying alot, but I want to be able to survive sufficiantly while soloing, I also want to help my frinds while I sorta "leech" exp. while I heal. So any input would be greatly appreciated in helping me make my descision.

Mo/anything will be good in a party so don't worry about that. Out of your preferred, a necro would probably be better for soloing than a mesmer due to more damaging spells (unconditional rather than "if x casts x mana on x spell takes x damage")

If all you want to do is heal I recommend Mo/E or Mo/Me... After ascension you can switch over to Mo/N for Offering of Blood which is probably one of the most efficient healing builds.
Keep in mind that you won't be doing much soloing as a monk primary though, if your focus is healing.

Smiting monks are always good for soloing, though they can be very conditional (as in it can be very hard to take down some things and incredibly easy for others). I'd say if you want a character you can play through the game with and do some soloing for some of the missoins, go for a Mo/N. Summons can be your best friend.

You kinda can't solo in this game.
Personally, I prefer E/Mo for a healer.

you can go solo at the start, but after a while you need to party of take henchman, but once you ascend you can go back and solo most places, i just started a mo/n with the idea of healing my minions or doing healing and blood stuff, gonna be sick either way.

Mo/Doesn't matter.
Orison of Healing
Word of Healing
Healing Touch
Signet of Devotion
Smite Hex
Healing Seed
<resurrect skill>
Zealot's Fire
Which resurrect skill to take can vary based on what you're doing. Generally restore life or rebirth. If you're truly going solo (no henchmen), I'd recommend taking a ranger secondary, replace word of healing with aura of faith, healing seed with energizing wind, and the resurrect with balthazar's aura.

Monk/Anything is good. Depends what you wanna do... if youre all about helping the party then mo/any caster is fine. mo/w is decent, also provides better protection for you, mo/r i wouldnt recommend.

Both Mo/N and Mo/E are good choices for a strictly healing role, while both give the option of loading some offense if wanted. Necromancer curses can reduce incoming damage by slowing attacks or weakening foes, both of which make healing easier, and with Wells to boost energy/healing rates you can deliver constant pips to a group, which is very handy vs. are degeneration and multiple poisons/disease. Elementalists likewise have defensive options, with Wards to protect the party, and armour type abilities to protect yourself.

Noob question time!
Does the subjob you pick have any effect on your HP/Energy/Defense, or does it simply give you the ability to put points into their attributes and use their skills?

The latter; just attributes and skills. Nothing except level, skills and gear affects your health either, health is the same whether you are a warrior or a monk primary.

It has no effect on HP/Energy/Defence.
I'm a Mo/W atm, which I like because you have the option of some nice damaging adrenal skills, that raise your damage output without using up energy that could be used to heal. I've recently ascended though, and am finding I hardly use warrior skills anymore, so I'm pretty much a pure monk now.
If all you want to do is focus on healing/protection, then Mo/Me is probably the best monk build, but can be a little one dimensional for a rp character. From your post, I would recommend you try Mo/N, using one of death magic or curses. Death for healable minions; curses to soften up the enemy to make healing easier.
Anyway, you can always change after ascension if you want.

Ok, thanks. I think I might play as a Mo/N (providing it works on my CPU)
