Monks
Hi,
I recently created a Monk beacause I find that they are usefull. But I have recently realized that they are overpopulating the game. When ever I am in Old ascalon, people are always asking for 1 ~ 2 monks, and I think the number of monks that are appearing in the game is outrageous.
Sure, they help ALOT when it comes to tight situations. I just find that all of these monks are unneccisary. Has anyone else noticed that?

right now in later missions there is a shortage of monks I think people are doing it for that reason.

Not really. In later areas, there are much less monks. Seems like whenever I enter mission "town", people spam invites - it gets annoying. Besides, what does asking for monks have to do with their number being "outrageous"?

and I bet the shortage is there because of so much ill treatment in early levels when people are still learning the monkery craft.

Actually, I would think that everyone makes their Monk/*, levels them to 20, and then parks them as a farming character.
Why would a PvP only character care about finishing the game if instead he/she can work to unlock runes?
The monk's farming ability makes it more lucrative to turn him/her into a cash cow as opposed to a main character.
At least, in my opinion.

I'm playing a monk because it's fun, I like the role. And I enjoy the "job" but I get easily frustrated when people bitch because they died. When I'm low on life with my main, I run like hell... when I die, I wait for a res and once or twice max let the party know I'm dead. Then when the chaos has stopped, I look at who's all dead and suggest the furthest from the mobs or the one with more res to be brought back first. When I'm a monk... well... it usually doesn't play out in the same way.

DrSLUGFly , I tried once with henchmen, and got pretty far, but after I hit the lavapart, with all the fire-imps at the end it kinda looked obvius that this wasnt going to work with henchmen. But I'll give it another try..!

I wouldn't call it a cakewalk but I did finish the ring of fire with just henchies and my W. Once you figure out how to position them and how to control thier aggro and tell them what to attack and when, things are falling into place.
And yeah... monks are getting harder and harder to find as the game progresses. Yesterday I entered The ice caves of Sorrow with my monk and there were a bunch of really upset folks in groups looking for monks.
"come on Monks...join our grp"
"where are all the stinking monks..."
"we need a Monk damn it..."
At that point i decided i had enough playing time for the day
and logged out....

I had problems with primary monks and you did it with warrior? Even Heal Party could barely keep up with second lava "lake", the one with imps - or did you take shorter path?

My next Char is going to be a Monk. Seems like a completely different role than all the other classes I've played.

You are saying "lake" but you realy mean a "pond" right?lol
Yeah.....if you fight in those you are dead. You need to pull the imps in a position where you don't have to fight them in a pool of lava.
Pulling also makes sure that you only fight a mob at a time.
And that's the other thing..pulling with henchies is another challenge all by itself. But once you learn how...like I said....things are falling into place.
For the record, I think i stayed on the right side of the map all the way to the portals. It seemed easier that way instead of crossing over to the left side. Also i was using a hammer with knockdowns and blinding to help out with minimizing damage received.

I have a monk, but I got bored staring at the health bars all the time, so I don't group much any more. Having more fun bringing a warrior and a ranger through the game.
Last time I played my monk, I foolishly accepted a PuG Invitation. Unfortunately I was all set up with lots of smiting and no healing. Serves them right for not checking we're all ready before they go.
I wish I could have seen the looks on their faces when I told them this...

My main character is a monk, and has over 400 hours of playing time. I came so close to dropping my monk once I got to the desert, just because other people treated me so badly. It had to be my fault, not a lack of teamwork, or bad tactics, or gerneral stupidity on their part. When I was finally able to find a good group and complete Thristy River I was still unsure about him. However, I realized finally that I should not let the jerks get to me. My friends list has grown so has our guild. Anytime I want to play with nice people, they are just a text message away.
And that brings me to another point. There is a very real trend among Guild Wars players that needs to stop.
Most players reguard anyone not in their guild as brainless idiot who, when installing the game, somehow created an ascended lvl 20 character standing in Droknar's Forge. I see people blow up and foam at the mouth because another player makes a small mistake. I see people who will ridicule other players because they were smart enough to ask a question about how something in the game works.
If that describes you, then get a brain, a heart, some courage, and a home.

In the isles of fire most groups wait for hours a monk and when one appears he is spammed by invites (in S. Shiverspeaks and desert is quite the same thing).
About the whiners i can say they are few, the majority of players are happy when you are in a group and when you heal them.
