In SOE games (yes I know they are the suck), saying that would get you a IP ban within 24 hrs if reported.
People who insult because they think it's cool should be thrown out of the game. They don't need to be playing any game which involves hundreds of thousands on the global scale if they don't have global sensitivities or basic decency.
Take Screenshots and report every moron like that as fast as you come across them.
I'm an Asian who plays in America for America and I endorse these comments.

Heck yeah. My guild now always turns off local chat when doing any form of pvp. At first they wanted to trash talk but after a while, they realized exactly why I wanted them to do it. We just turn it back on only after we win and just say gg...

Well let me tell you guys and gals something about being harassed. But this is not an open invatation to come find me either. My ign is Lady Busch(Busch as in the American BEER, NOT the damn President...FYI) and I think that I have heard it all. I am not going to get into detail about what is said because if you know any Demo's you already know there hatred for the president. But what I dont understand is that it is not even spelled right and they still make that connection somehow. I was in a 6 team battle and I think that it was a European team(I could be wrong) but he even said something about like this( i f*in hate bush and I am going to destroy you!!!). Now I was drinking when I made this toon and was not thinking about the backlash that I would be getting for this name but I dont really care. Sometimes its funny watching people get all worked up over a name that means nothing to what they are talking about. Don't get me wrong, they want to bash and I can be pretty cleaver about what to say back to them, and sometimes it goes a little to far but it is all in good fun to me. I am not the kind of person that lets someone get to me through a computer screen, I just cant let it go that far. Usually there is some cussing and name calling and stuff like that, but when it is on the public channel is when I really hate it. Then everyone gets involved and it is a good ol' bashin time and I usually cant keep up.(finger cramps and such, know what I mean). One thing is for sure, people have given me loads of crap and I have given it right back to them. Sometimes I am a little quick to judge on who is giving me a hard time anymore( Lord Crom, now a friend), but that is like being in prison and hovering over your food, never know who is going to try to get ya.
One final comment... That is a pretty messed up thing to say NUMA POMPILIUS. That comment makes You no better than the person this thread is about. maybe You have some growing up to do still.

That is absolutely right. It was obvious to me that WWII seemed very distant to most here, so I tried to recast it so it'd be more obvious just how jarring some kinds of comment can be, and how hard to ignore.
Still, I'm amazed it's not been deleted*. An easy two thirds of all my posts get deleted, and that's easily the most incendiary one I've ever posted.
* EDIT: Ah, I see order has now been restored.

WAW is dumb, why do we need to separate the community anyway? And why should PvE be dependant on PvP and vice versa? All the issues foreseen when WAW was announced have proven to be there. Remove WAW.

For the WaW stuff, I am thinking the reason why ANet currently has the real country set up is so that they can reduce latency. IF they can rework their network code down so that the important and necessary traffic is very small and takes up little bandwidth loads, then a fictional set of WaW realms could be set up. Right now, Anet is trying to keep the "I am lagging, so I lost!" greifers complacent.

In a hopefully ungeneralized manner of speaking, I notice American tomb teams to have the shortest fuses or easiest to enrage. How so many of us would long for the day that beating a team with a good strategy wouldn't make you a homosexual or retarded. Comparing that to matches against Korean and European national teams, the difference is smack dab in your face. Not once has to my experience a Korean team whiplashed us for our strategy, tossed a racial slur at us, nor have called us gay, while they all spoke english to a fair degree. Speaking french and a bit of italian, European teams are seldom verbal attackers. They can be more likely to throw a few foreign swears, but to no comparable scale with American teams.
Just to clear the air, I know of plenty of Americans who arren't walking timebombs, and on another note plenty of Canadians who can be just as bad, but again it's to no comparison who you'll most likely get blasted for if you prove your superiority.
Coming from an Admin position in a few competitive games, I've head them all, and you prove yourself even more superior to uncheck that little box right next to Local during tombs or team arena matches.

Koreans rarely insult you in game, they have no problems with the WaW concept either. The only people who seem to throw racist remarks in the game are largely westerners.
How the koreans approach the game in terms of insults and maturity is proof that WaW can work.

It's not proof of success actually, because Koreans in general (I said this also on another thread) are culturally a very respectful and polite people. It's the very rare rare person who exposes their true feelings to strangers and even more rare who grows aggressive or rude towards people they don't like... I guess this runs true even online.

Reason for people talking like that
1) immature or just like to be a ass
2) think its fun or cool to act tough by making racist jokes or crude comments
3) think that people don't care or have emotion and the comments they say in the game shoudn't be taken seriously
4) morons or retard who just like to ruin people days
Im sorry that people have to act like this in games but that how certain people are, they say things without using their brains (or if they even have one )
by the way, recently in PvE, i was going around town and see lots of people use STFU in the game about different things, whether its teaming up or buying stuffs

This is the best possible advice and I do it in every PvP match.
Many of us remember when the game didn't have this option (back in beta) and listening to juvenile trash-talk was part of the PvP experience - and I hated it.
I can't suggest it highly enough - just turn off local chat. Those people are trying to elicit a response from you and to wind you up, by turning off local chat, they can't do that.

I find it astounding how verbal offenders are almost all the time is immediately identified as young, immature idiots. It is almost like people try preclude the possibility that the verbal attack might be just the same age or older.
Nontheless it is rather sick humor. I guess offenders should be penalized for their actions. On the other hand, it will become so bad that, one cannot say the occasional "gay", "ass" or "****" (just examples). I am pretty sure quite a few people tend to type up the mentioned insults, even myself.
Some nicknames really do ask to be "harrassed":

I am pretty sure the connection is quite obvious. And I think one cannot expect not to be flamed or sworn at with a nick name like this. Certainly, the verbal abuse should not even occur in the first place but we all know they do and will.

I hate to point this out, but if you wanted to stop these sorts of immature insults, then the answer isn't to scrap the WaW concept... you have to scrap the entire internet. For as long as there is no risk of being punched in the face for such insults, they will continue to make them. It has nothing to do with youth; I know of plenty of old people who are even worse than some youths because they can actually come up with some deeply hurting insults, rather than just childish references to your sexuality.
The power of anonymity provided by the internet is a well-documented phenomenon; it allows children and adults alike to throw around childish insults like candy, it allows old men to become young women, it allows the concept of a 'debate' to become twisted and mutilated into something else, it allows poor people to become rich... in short, I have always viewed the internet as a thing which may have been better-off left uninvented.
If you got rid of the WaW concept, all you'd manage to do is switch the subjects of insults to something equally despicable. Scumbags don't change.

This thread annoys me. Not because of the stupid immature comments some have heard, but because of how people react to them.
Why do people blame the WaW system ? Do you really think you wouldn't get the same comments if it wasn't there ? Do you think that the idiots would suddenly disappear if it was removed ? Perhaps, if you feel that the WaW system promotes racial hatred, you'd also like to cancel the Olympic games, because any type of competition between opposing groups is bad for you huh ?
I like that Anet has tried to make the PvP in this otherwise quite shallow game mean something. If that gets taken away because of the moronic minority, then the idiots have won.
