It's no struggle to defeat yourself if you know yourself (i.e. your character). That you so easily bested your doppelganger only proves that you'd learned the best, most effective way of besting your inner 'man'.
Those who struggle with the doppelganger have to learn more of themselves....or read more of the forums out here in Virtual Land.
Perhaps it was designed this way. If you know your char and what makes them good, the doppelganger is easy. If you have blithely played through the game, or come through on others' coattails, then this will be terribly hard.

Umm... to people who say Glint is the culmination of ascension... if that was true, why would Glint say that you had ascended when you talk to Glint? And also, why would you get the 50k exp after killing the Doppelganger, not after Glint?
As for the main topic... the Doppelganger isn't meant to be some crazy hard fight. It's part of the storyline, and it's more of a puzzle than a fight. An easy puzzle, sure. Regardless, it's not supposed to be some crazy fight, and anyone who expects that is, in my opinion, off their rocker. This game is rarely about gigantic huge fights, so you shouldn't expect anything different from the Doppelganger.

nobody said anything about 'gigantic huge'...the question is about difficulty. My doppleganger did 0 damage...and actually healed me for roughly 40HP...it made no sense.

I'm still not sure what skill you equipped that allowed him to heal you constantly but that's not usually the case. Usually the doppelganger does decent amounts of damage and is able to use a large amount of skills properly. If you went up against him with a blank skill bar you'd get smoked. Bringing the right skills completely changes it and makes it really easy, but that doesn't mean that the doppelganger itself is really easy, it just means that you found (or read about) a good combination of skills. Finding the skills is the whole battle, so of course you can't expect the doppelganger to be difficult when you bring the right skills.
And guys, it's doppelganger, not doppleganger. It's not even doppelganger, it's doppelgänger, but doppelganger is close enough.

makes a lot of sense, because you brought the correct skills.

so it's not doopleganger either?
I'm not sure which skill it was that allowed him to heal me either...wish I did. earlier in the thread I listed what skills I took with me. two traps otyugs cry and a couple of spirits, and pindown....my initial inclination was that I would use pindown then run up behind him and drop a trap....when I got there he just started laying down traps so I started firing arrows....by the time he was done laying traps and casting spirits he had about a quarter of an inch of HP left. I also went to the rune trader and purchased two Major runes so that I would have 100 less HP...I figured if he was my "shadow walker" he'd have the same amount of HP that I had...can anyone confirm this thought?
Arvydas: Do you know what skill the ranger would have that would allow my doppelganger to heal me?

Mine was easy. I used earthquake, crystal wave, stoning, and obsian flame. Then spammed stone daggers till it was dead. Less than 10 seconds. Though I was at less than 15 health. My friend was a pyro and killed it in less than that. He was still above half health.

Because Glint is the end of the desert.
Ascention downright is a load of crap, you dont get anything special for it besides having the gift of true sight (plot device!) that we had from the start since we are chosen from the day we (the characters) were born.
The reason people get to 20 level is because Tombs is right next to Glint and South Shiverpeaks mobs are lv20+, its a way to make sure people are the proper level before they can face those challanges.

ok..Glint is the end of the desert...nobody argued that. The end of Ascension is your doppelganger...I've been a level 20 since yaks...so it doesn't make any difference to me that ascension made me a level 20. I'm asking from a storyline perspective(PvE)...why was ascending so anti-dramatic...why was it not in the least difficult?

For me, the doppleganger was hard because my ranger wields a domination staff and is a beastmaster...no bow skills at all.
Turns out that the pet doesnt go into the battle with you, so my character had no way of winning. I had to make a domination ranger and quickly learn how to use all the skills i never used, got him the 3rd time.

There is the reason above.
I got killed the first time I tried and I was ready ... I just scewed up at start.
Besides a ultra hard boss would not be climatic, it would downright cheating (Arena Net is not BioWare that makes their boss shameless cheat) and most battles 1v1 PvE in the game of equal level characters of the same class end up taking about the same time or less (because enemies dont get 8 skills as we do, or a 2nd class) and also I am not of fan of the 20 minutes battles, such battles are not realistic at all.

you fail to see the point I guess....
I stood there and hit him with arrows...he never attacked me...it took 23 seconds to beat him...AND he healed me for 40HP....that's not even a battle...

The Doppelganger mission is the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new one. Its an interesting concept (stolen from Evil Islands??) and players who just fight it without thinking will find it very hard to beat him. The fact that players who figure out a way to counter him can win within seconds does not make the mission bad. I think its supposed to be that way: THINK! And its not the end of the game.

Did you bring any second prof skills with you? I don't play a ranger so I can't tell you. But my reasoning is that the only way he can heal you is with some skills that you used. I know of monk skills that heals from attacks (Reversal of Fortune). Or it just so happened that he was using skills that benefits all creatures (you mentioned about spirits). If you didn't bring anything that would have healing effects, then I am really surprised.

I think you have a +4 vampric bow equipped, so with each hit you gain +4 hp. if the mirror is busy casting all the spirits, you would have a good head start in plucking him to death. there are already a lot of postings related to how to defeat your mirror in this forum, but still not all ppl playing the game read them, or is smart enough to figure out how to beat your own mirror.

as fire ele, I was able to beat the mirror in under 20 seconds, prolly closer to 15. It was quite simple. I only equipped 4 spells, fire rain which he's too stupid to step out of, fireball, flare and pheonix which he's too stupid to use at close range. Given the extra advantage I got out of fire rain (which was short lived) and the huge boost I got out of using pheonix on him twice at point blank, I was able to take him down quickly.
Beating your mirror fast shows an understanding of how to use your skills and how they will be inneffective. The idea is you set him up to use either inneffective skills or effectives skills in inneffective ways, while you exploit (real meaning, not game meaning) your spells to their full potential.
