Glad someone finally got it right. Thanks for that, Siran.

All you people who are bitching about updates need to step back and think about what developing a game actually takes. Think about just the Faction system that they just put in, that you people apparently think should have taken a week instead of the two weeks, seeing as you're mad about the skipped week. First off, think about the idea base. All updates require the ideas to start it off, and the ideas need to be planned out to every detail. So, that takes a decent amount of time before you even start working on the update. Then, think about each and every small implementation. They had to edit the code for every single city, every single arena, and the entire PvP section of the game. They also had to add in completely new NPCs which had to be designed, etc. Plus, they had to program in the actual Faction system to get it to work properly. Most of you people complaining don't realize how much this work takes in the first place because none of you have probably even looked at advanced game code, but this takes a lot of work. Then you think about the fact that they wouldn't even have anywhere near all their staff working on this... and you expect in a week? That's absurd. Then you also consider how many other things were in that update... and damn, you people are just plain spoiled. ArenaNet is doing a damn fine job, and they should be commended, not bitched at.

Edit: Algren Cole, yes they expect to be successful, and they will. Seeing as each Chapter is like an entire game, they're going to be the same as any other game designing company, except that all of their games are going to be designed on the same theme. Seeing as Guild Wars is doing so well thus far, I personally expect the company to be very successful, and as long as the ideas keep coming they could probably keep Guild Wars up for a long, long time.

As long as idiotics threads like this one are posted by the same negative people, I couldn't care less.

Most companies are not as responding as Anet is, we get an update every week or so and you keep complaining? Updates daily? You guys have issues. You deserve games like Everquest 2.

I hope these crybabies leave the game AND GwGuru forum (which I consider a gem in the gem) as soon as possible, though it will never be soon enough.

It is actually a fantastic business plan for a small(er-ish) company of what appear to people who are pretty close to each other. All the programers work on this game drawing out a salary then when game slows up fold the company open a new company for New Game X and continue to draw salary. Repeat as needed. Since game companies are largely victims of eventual bankrupcy or buy out seems to be a good plan to get the money out while you they can.

If the company is bigger than I am led onto believe or if it is more corporate based and not a group of people who knew each other decently well before forming than bits of this logic fade.

actually...that logic does make sense if arenanet is what you described it as...I can see that being a perfectly good business plan.

minus the fact that they build no type of reputation.. Game Company A has good reputation ->Game A Stops selling -> Game Company A becomes Game Company B (no reputation at all) -> Game Company B has to hope the game they are building has a large enough fanbase.....if not, it'll flop.

Ah true, but from my experience reputation in the gaming industry has only helped one company, Blizzard, and now that reputation seems to be hurting them as everyone has such high expectations from them that they can not deliver.

Remember Interplay or Micropose (Ah X-Com)...Most companies build up a repuation only to fold up or be bought out by another game company that will either fold up or be bought out by another game company that will either fold up or be bought out, etc. So I am not sure that there is much company branding as their is franchise branding or game branding. For example I think Squaresoft only has an image more because it's franchise has a brand value.

Does anyone notice the fact that the negative side has just been repetidly shafted without remorse? It's great! Obviously Guild Wars is no where near perfect, but if you look at what the game is based upon; you realize Anet is the good in the sea of evil. Not destroying the series for cash - StarCraft: Ghost would be an example for Blizzard, not forcing you to pay excess amounts if you don't want to, etc etc. Give them time to sort out the game. Give them time to add more meat to the bones, give them time to make you stop running under bridges every time, give them some breathing space!

EDIT: On the note of Blizzard, !@#$ them. GG SC2, hello POS SC:G. They will never be an RTS company again, as seen by Wc3.

Final Fantasy games continue to be amazing....X-2 wasn't even a good Final Fantasy game...but it was one of the better cames released that year. There are companies that maintain good reputation and sell games because of it. Rockstar North.....Turbine.......Sierra...none of them have made a decent game in a LONG LONG time....yet they're still going strong.

Sholter: Eventually Guild Wars will lose it's appeal...eventually people are going to get tired of playing it...and at that point ArenaNet should have something to fall back on. I hope they are very successful..I think they've done an amazing job with this game and I thoroughly enjoy it....but it sounds to me that they're trying to milk the consumer dry without ever producing anything. If they never make another game....and continue to sell you expansions they never have to do any real programming...the engines stay the same they just put new filler in.....

You have no right to complain about this, you paid one single fee (box fee) for GW. What game companies develop release and patch their game after its gone live, minus game ending bugs? Until GW ups some monthly fee, then you have a right to complain. GW is what it is. Don't get confused with what it isn't. Anet cannot endlessly patch or add content for free when they make absolutely no revenue on it. They are still a business and they must make a profit. Every piece of content and patch you get should please you, even if its a bug fix. Stop being ungreatful unless you want to pay 10-15 bucks a month for a weekly update.

Bioware. I have yet to see a bad game developed by them.

Sorry, after seeing that Bioware comment I just have to jump in. "Jade Empire" was a steaming pile. The whole thing felt like a beta test for their new IP. It was poorly fleshed out. The whole thing just had an incomplete feel to it. Yes it was gorgeous, but the gameplay and storyline were a complete joke.

Back to the topic: ArenaNet, you can cash my check for the next expansion right now. Pay no attention to the nay-sayers. Guild Wars is the most fun I've had on my PC since the first Half-Life.

I expected this to happen anyway because with no monthly fee there is little to no reason (economically) to make big upgrades and stuff like in Everquest or Wow. Just remember you get what you pay for.

Once again, proof that players will complain about anything. If there is a patch, players complain. If there isn't a patch, players complain. If PvP is boosted, PvE'ers complain. If PvE is boosted, PvP'ers complain.

All the while, the silent majority keep playing and are glad to see cool stuff added for no extra charge.

A fun PvE game with the best PvP around. Thats what I paid for. And yes I got it too.

how do you explain the free updates that are coming though?

Sorrows furnace
Grenth's footprint
observer mode for PvP

I didn't pay for those. But they are still giving them to me. Damn you ArenaNet! how dare you not live up to the cliche.

I would not jump on the poster for his observation. I personally disagree his conclusion about them moving on (future system changes, expansions, etc being worked on and other things brought up in the posts) with it and Anet has done a fantastic job with GW.

I can see why they felt that way, updates were so frequent and unexpected for so long they felt normal.

The whole massive pvp update and the hint about pve future update give me the impression there something big in the works and will take time to develop and beta test it. I rembeer Gale mentioned about testing out the pvp system to make sure it was good after it was done.

The bigger the game gets / bigger the user base the more careful they have to think about changing the game. The pvp system added to the existing system (not changed the previous unlock system) the first update that change the basics of the game is a risk for losing a lot of people.

This isn't entirely true ... their game engine will never be absolutely stale ... if their are any modifications to the clients they will come in live streams for free. As the server sits on their end ... the actually have more control over the engine and have a stronger hold over this problem than any other game.

Actually wrong again, your comparing game in its first 2 months to a games that has been out for years. In all reality your complimenting Anet on how they revel in the market with those 2 games already. You do realise that don't you?

GW in its birth is doing amazing. The response Anet gives to fan feedback is superb, the game is fantasitc and I will pay for all of my friends to be in with chapter 1 and 2 in my guild.

They can also do something like Bioware is doing with NWN: They will continue to support NWN1 once the sequel comes out in several ways. They are planning to continue the patch process and "premium" mods and whatnot. They are also updating the engine for NWN2 and giving the game a new look and new story.

I can easily see ANet doing something along these lines as well as the years go on.

Nice to see a constructive and articulate topic for once.

I too am looking forward to the expansion, especially the treats that are in store for PvE (whatever that might be).
ArenaNet can come round to my house for lunch and meet my Gran...they have earned my gratitude for creating this beautiful game and keeping us all in the news and regularly updated.

Already have my expansion money set aside for you guys!

Give people an inch, and they'll take a mile.

Or in this case, give people a mile, and they'll take an au.
