Default The Storm Bow Dye Experiment

Due to curiosity and the number of Storm Bow dyeing questions I've seen recently(including one of my own), I decided to experiment with dyeing a Storm Bow to see the effects, if any, they have.

First Experiment:

These are what each dye does to the Storm Bow, not much, but at least it's something. Some of them look pretty decent, others you can barely see.

Original

Red

Orange:

Yellow

Green

Blue

Purple

Silver

And finally...for your easy viewing pleasure...my favorite...
Black

In other words: Dying your storm bow doesn't really do all that much.

Nice dye collection though!

*marks this down in her little book of things NOT to do*

Agreed, Algren. The difference is too negligible to notice. :P

Thanks for doing the experiment and sharing it with us. The results are quite informative. Some items are just not every "dye-friendly".

This makes me curious if the change is because you put so many dyes on or if it's mostly because of the black that you added. I noticed minute changes thoughout... so it made me curious. I've heard earlier that people that tried black didn't see that much difference but they could have just not looked close enough. If anyone has a lot of dye that they don't want (hah) it'd be interesting to see one dyed with one black, two blacks, and one with a bunch of random dyes.

It would'nt let me post all the pics at once, so I had to resort to using links.

Thanks for the feedback though, next I'll try using multiples of one color to see if it makes a difference.

wait a minute.......i thought the weapon only takes the last dye you give it.....for example, if i dye my sword red and then i dyed it blue, the final result is going to be blue...not purple.

so in this case, that last picture of the Storm Bow is actually just dyed black.

You can mix dyes. That's what he did.

Actually, I didn't mix the dyes, I simply piled them on one after the other. I was under the impression that you had to use a dye remover to remove the color, otherwise they would mix ><. If anyone can confirm this, it would be nice so I could fix my info

Correct. If you want to apply a mixed dye to an item, you need to mix the dye ahead of time.

unless you use a dye remover the second applied dye goes over the original dye...they will 'mix' to an extent though not the same way they would mix if you mixed them pre-application.

Woah guys, hold up. Applying multiple dyes to an item mixes. I believe it's a different kind of mixing than straight dye mixing but I'm near positive it does mix.

I just did a quick experiment:

I had blue pants.

Here's what it looks like when I add red dye over the blue pants:

Here's what it looks like when I used a dye remover, then used red dye:

I conclude that dyes do not mix together when you apply them over each other. The only way to mix dyes is to mix them before applying them.

Of course, it could be different for non-standard equipment (e.g. Chaos Axes).

You may not be able to dye Storm Bows, but you can dye chaos axes. The wierd thing though is you get a different color then the dye (example silver=white)

tehclam...that probably happened because red has been preselected to be a dominant color...mix anything with red and the color is going to be more reddish....if you've got the cash or wanna try it out and I'll throw you the gold later tonight IG...dye them red first...then dye them blue.

From what I can see of those screenshots,
Green = Purple, Blue = Yellow, Purple = Green, Silver = White
on the storm bow.
The rest look essentially blue.

As to dye on armour. Some classes it replaces and some classes it mixes.
For elementalists, you never have to use remover, but for necros you do. I don't know about other classes.
