lmao has nothing to do with looking different.
but in my experience it is the people who want a special thing for this and a special thing for that who do it to show off.
you do not need an aura to know you have done a good job. an aura only tells those around you that you are "uber" or "leet" or better than they are etc.
if you know it why does everyone else need to know it too?
and by the way no one said what he has done is not good. he knows it is good and that is all that shoyuld matter

A colored name or aura is NOT showing off and people dont type " OMG I HAVE A AURA AND YOU DONT NUB"
That is way extreme. But anything to make you look different they hate.

how are you going to look different when 50% of the people playing the game have 1kk experience? you're still going to look like everyone else....only know you'll glow a silly color

It was to my knowledge that people got the Collector's Edition to be vain with the glowiness. Glowing after 1m exp is just another separator from the masses, though...a lot of people already reached 1m.
But, the glowing is a bad idea anyway. I think it'd detract from your spending 16plat to dye all your armor black, or whatever color you so choose.

probably not any sillier than some of capes I've seen.
I think visual rewards often serve as inspiration for those who haven yet aquired that level. I would hope in time to come there is a steady influx of new people. (provided it siomething that you have to earn)
...besides you wouldn't turn down a aura would you?

I turn down every single guild invite from a guild with a cape....I don't want to glow...I want to kill baddies....I could careless if the hundreds of people sitting around town think I am UBER.

yeah.. we might as well get rid of the fow/uw armor, make all armor sets have the same look and have only 1 type of image for each weapon type. lmao lmao lmao lmao

Have an option to turn it off then. I mean I have nothing against getting a glowing aura, but I wouldn't want it on all the time.

Anybody who ever played the original Diablo knows what THAT is like. Every warrior, rogue and sorcerer looked exactly the same no matter WHAT you were wearing.
But your point is valid, Liante: If nobody REALLY cared, we wouldn't have dyes for changing armor/weaponry appearances, we wouldn't have levels to distinguish level 1 from level 20, we wouldn't have male and female.

Not everyone, Manheim, in this community is as jaded as the more negative posters on this thread, nor is everyone in game as jaded. I still get an adreneline rush when I unlock a rune or a new item or a new skill. Don't lose your enthusiasm because of a few doo doo heads.

Thank you for your attitude...too many people here love to pull others down.
You know, after seeing how people behave over the most trivial things in this game, its no wonder so many things in real life are so screwed up

The part that is really unfortunate, atleast for people who are concerned with visual rewards, is the most visible is Armor. People have found ways to get it a bit ...umm searching for the right words... relatively painlessly.

I believe the purpose for the level cap was exactly this...and dye is a gold sink...most armor doesn't dye enough to make you look any different anyway.

Seperation of the masses? That is right, we must fight the individualistic capitalist swine with the heels of our shoes if need be!
I can understand people not liking it if we rob Peter to pay Paul, but if we give Paul something for his own accomplishments, why should that affect Peter? Unless it is just pure jealousy.
The actual mechanics of the aura for xp should be worked out, so if it is 1 million or 5 million shouldn't be the point.
Rewards for accomplishing something, especially if they don't affect gameplay or balance should not be a big issue.

Oh... my... God. Let me ask how many posters in THIS thread got the Collector's Ed of the game. Does the Divine Aura make you feel bad about yourself, like you're showing off?
Geez, it's just a little in-game notification that you've achieved some sort of accomplishment. Kinda like the 15K armor--it's no better than the 1.5K armor, but it looks cooler. Or the dyes--no point in dying ANYTHING in the game except to look different, distinctive.
If you're against any sort of external call-out to your "leetness," please avoid the 15K armor, dye, guilds with capes, various weapons with glowing effects, doing any sort of emote if you have the CE, and so on. In fact, why even farm for items? Why get excited over gold or purple drops? It only adds to your supposed leetness and everyone will know you're just trying to display. Right?
Come on, people. This game has tons of little visual cues to give people kudos for achievement. It's part of the fun factor of the game. I am, for the record, all in favor of it just 'cause it's fun, not because I need anyone to affirm my achievement. And I'm comfortable with that.

there is a difference between customizing your character to fit your likes and dislikes as far as aesthetic appearances are involved and being ostentatious......the latter is not what we need in this game....it is the very thing the developers are attempting to avoid.

Tons of things in this game separate the masses, folks.
-capes (I know, Algren, you don't wear one. )
-guild halls
-"effect" weaponry
-dye
-armors identifiable as being from one place or another
-ranks (for those who PvP)
-customization of weapons and armor
So what if people want a little "something" for accomplishing a goal? As stated earlier, if it doesn't effect game balance, who gives a rip? And, as further stated, if it was made "toggle-able", that would be a nice option.
Those of you who want us all to march like identical little soldiers could just walk by the "glowers" and shake your 'toon heads and feel superior that YOU didn't fall prey to the nastiness of individuality.
Customizing and individualizing armor/weapons is a nice feature. Perhaps reaching a "goal" (such as 1,000,000 or 10,000,000,000,000 XP) with a toggle on/off feature, would further enhance one's ability to customize/individualize their characters.
