I just thought... maybe... the year is 2150, the evergrowing cities basically cover the whole planet, which is polluted beyond imagination.
Even the poorest that have to live in the streets get bombarded by television everywhere, as large screens from tall buildings shine their unholy light of cnn and whatstheirnames over each and every street. and when you check the unstable and shaking stock markets, you can see how much various in-game currencies would cost you to buy with your Nuyen or Dollar or whatever money you get paid in
