Ya, I am really getting that feeling of a pawn shop. Pathetic a video game has to be so anal about its prices. I've paid much attention to the economy in gw. I still can't believe my eyes when I see some of the prices like these.
Note: The term "Inflation" whether my useage is incorrect is irrelevant.
I know inflation is a different thing, but its a word that most will understand. Meaning Higher prices (in that sense forgive spelling).

See above Ye Oldde Pawn Shoppe quip above. If you go to a pawn shop sometime and parooze the items, some places have almost a 100% mark up from what they bought it for (tech items seem to be 150% +)....I mean you sell your 13-24 chaos axe to the vender for 75 gold, which is reasonable even considering the fact it is covered in blood....

dye is stackable, so if you think theyre devoting 60% of thier inventory to this, youre wrong

It's just stupid, dye isn't something that should cost you more than a superior monk rune. There needs to be a set price that the price of dye revolves around.

seriously? wow. I never knew that. lol I always mixed them when I tried to stack em in the past. but that was a while ago. like I said I havent done it in quite some time... But I may have been mistaken, or they changed it in a recent update...
Yep sure are. wow. I guess I always picked them up and just put them in storage till later and never tried to stack them again. lol Thats a real d'oh moment... I'm not even blonde.
I do know that periodically Arenanet injects some into the traders if the price gets too high or if the item vanishes from the trader offerings for a long time. They do it with runes too. I was lucky to be on the other night when the superior vigor came on when they just injected a bunch. it jumped from 60k to 30k in a few secs. And may of us jumped on that opportunity. I just resold one of them to the NPC just now for 60K so I recouped my purchase right there... I used the other one. I was getting an extra for someone else, but he got one same time I did for himself...

naw, i like the concept of a free market....whether it truly is or not people will debate, but i think this idea is superior to pricing ranges.

Super Noob here!
Whats so special about Black Dye anyway? All it does is change the color of armor and stuff. It doesnt add any status effects does it?
I dont think it does. But i guess its just super rare. If the item drop rate was changed then the price would probably drop.
More people having it, less people scalping it

Solution to the pricing chaos: Allow them to be made by crafters. Hidden ones. For a price of a few hundred for most, five hundred for silver and a few k for black, plus ingredients. Make the crafters fairly hard to find, and with slightly randomized locations (always be present in the area, but in one of 5 or 6 places, so it's hard to find). Limit the buy prices at the dye traders to go to a minimum of what it is required to craft them, plus about half that value, so people will still sell to them.
Now, people will sell these for a reasonable amount of mark-up, or to the trader for the enforced miunimum level of mark-up. There will be a lot of these things going around, so the price will drop to somewhere between the minimum buy price of the trader, and the corresponding minimum sell price of the trader. The craft price and enforced minimum buy prices keeps the amount people will sell them for high enough for people to turn a profit, but low enough for people to buy them.
Or they can explore and find the crafters themselves.
Possibly remove the crafters from an area (or all areas) for a person, if they run into the area, found the crafter, left the area, then goes to a materials person, then runs into the area and to the crafter again lots of times, to stop people farming these guys too much. Reinstate them every few hours/days/when they have stopped running round the areas long enough.

crafter hours.....i only craft between the hours of blah-blarg.... "im on my coffee break come back later"
I also think that some of the crafting prices should be changed to reflect different quantities. Charcoal should not be as expensive as it is, it makes steel more expensive than buying. I just mean it would be better (note i didnt say Should) if it was around the price of making parchment. crafters for different weapons would be quite nice....but this is all pie in the sky.

Quit complaining so much. It's perfect the way it is.
GW has done things exactly right in this game. Stats sell low, looks sell high. That's the way it should be.
Any character in the game that gets through the missions and doing just the skill quests should be able to buy the best stat armor in the game.
That's perfect for casual and hard core players alike. If you want to look good then you have to work for the looks, but if you're a casual player you have the stats to be equal and the looks will come. You're not at a disadvantage in any way while you play.
Edit: Well perfect as far as cosmetic costs vs stat costs for PvE. I think they have a few issues they could work on for other things.

Grr. I was going to buy some vials of black dye while it was just above 5k a couple of days ago. But as per usual, I considered the risks rather than the profits, and now I'm just going to have to break some stuff to stop myself from shouting...

Yeah. And knowing my luck, black dye'll never drop down in price again...
...but if it ever does, my entire inventory is going to be full of the stuff within a minute .
Of course, if I do that, ANet will end up adjusting it so that it can never go higher than 50g or something like that. Just to spite me.

Black Dye is more of a luxury, not a damn necessity.
It is meant to look expensive, and looks really nice on the 75k armor. If it went up to 100k , I'd Love it.

I know I'm an online gaming noob, and an econ noob as well, but is there any reason why there can't be price fixing on everything? Or is that just one element of "fun" people expect from these games? I don't mean to criticize the development at all, I'm just wondering.
I mean, it's not like a real-world economy at all, in that no one pays taxes or a monthly mortgage payment on the hall, or subsidize poorer players with their own farming income. Why not just fix all prices?
Let the merchant buy at half the sale cost, and players have the opportunity to negotiate within that window if they wish. Why need there be a limited supply of anything--gold, mods, dyes--that cause everyone to complain about nerfing?
Anyway, just wondering, not (really) complaining.
