It went worst today :
Merchant selling prices :
red dye : 2.4 K
blue dye : 1.8 K
Merchant buying prices :
red dye : 1 gold
blue dye : 1 gold
The dev who programmed this thing surely made a mistake somewhere....
In my mind, if the price of something goes up, it means it's in high demand, and that supllies are running short, so the buying prices should go up accordingly, no?
Update from my previous message :
Red dye has gone down to 142 gold, and the merchant is now offering me 42 gold for one...

Should it not be the reverse, logically? More in stock = lower prices. Less in stock = higher prices.

....spend 9 hrs a day farming.lower and middle class.....huh? I know this is going to go against the grain of what passes for cool in forums....much like smoking in the bathrooms at school, but what the hell is this class crap i always hear about. It is like people are attempting to interject some greater philosophy about economics....its a friggin' game. What next a movement of the prolateriate? maybe tweak the traders a little in their price formula, but a major overhaul is not needed...people who play more will have more PERIOD. If they did not there would be no incentive to do so. You can complain about nerfing all you want....but my point is a) it is just a game b) a comment about the length of time people spend playing is immaterial, they will always have more, bemoaning that point is not worth it.

Actually, the only one "interjecting" a greater philosophy to this argument is you. When I mentioned lower and middle classes, I wasn't referring to them literally. I was using a metaphor to explain that there are newer players in Guild Wars who can't enjoy the luxuries that more experienced players have already bought-out from them.
And why should I have to "accept the fact" that because I purchased Guild Wars a few months late, I have lost EVERY chance to become its richest player? I thought this was a balanced game? I paid $50 for this game, and I'm pretty sure that these richer GW players didn't pay a dime more. So, with that said, where's my discount?
I'm not going to sit back and allow an unbalanced system take place without posting my complaint. Quite frankly, I refuse to do so because it just isn't right. It isn't right that I was sold on a game by a front, and back, cover, that made me gush in excitement about how balanced and fair this game was to every player that purchased it. Did A-Net lie to me when they told me my skills were going to determine the outcome of my play? Or, are they just implying that the only "Skill" worth developing in this game is buying the game before everyone else?
That's a skill I'm afraid I won't be able to capture with a signet. Too bad.

where did you see that GW was a balanced game ?
I don't see that written anywhere on my box
GW is a balanced game in PvP mode
in PvE, those who play more will have more, that's just simple logic

I don't see being 'poor' as a disadvantage. In PvE those weapons don't make a lot of difference, and you've got everything ready to hand in PvP (save skills which need time to obtain). At the moment money is pretty irrelevant IMO. The super expensive armours don't get you better capabilities, and the more moderate armours are attainable through normal play. Likewise though Minor Runes can cost the earth, they're quite common in normal play. I've played much PvE without spending any money save on armour. There's no weapons worth having. Runes used to be unattainable at traders. I think, like real life, the Rich have overpriced wares to buy solely so they can show off how rich they are. Normal folk (who'd rather play the game than trade ) can get by happily without worrying how rich they are.
But personally I can't get over how busted the trade system is! I think ANet must have mixed there signs, so as sale prices go up, buy prices go down instead.

the most expensive armors are not meant to change anything in your game (we all agree about that)
but we can't blame the people who have the time to play to try to get them in order to look a little different

Wow I've been out of town for a week. (Visiting my fiance's mother in her hometown) I didn't know this would still be around. I missed my GW (only dial-up there).
But like everyone else who has posted before Dye is a little ridiculous.. The whole demand system is very shrewd.. It's worse than going to a game store...
Me: Hi I wanted to trade in this game.
Employee: Alright let me just see what's it's worth.... three dollars and forty-seven cents.
Me: ... But that game is only like.. a year old.
Emp: Sorry..
Yeah.. and they were selling the game around 30 bucks still. lol
If they could atleast mess with the merchants a bit so it's worth buying or selling to them at all..

Sorry for double post but recently everything has been reset, even the black dye has came back. I geuss Anet thought it was better to reset but the merchants seems to still buy less than what it's worth...

Well that's how you make a living being a merchant - sell for more than you bought for. As a trader I have the option to sell to players or the merchant for slightly less money but much less hassle. After spending ages advertising a Warrior Major Adsorption Rune for 3p (3p 500g at trader) I decide to save my time and sell it to him for 2p 800g. And because you get a reasonable price it should keep costs down.
Though it'd still be better to have a trading 'billboard' where you can advertise and find merchandise from private traders.

I find it fabulously idiotic that people are still trying to sell dyes. The trader offers to buy at 100g less than he sells. If someone doesn't want to buy from the trader, they'll want at least a 50g discount by purchasing from someone else...which means you'll receive a 50g profit at max (unless you find other stupid ppl of course). Gold drops from monsters in the desert are almost always more than that. It's a waste of bloody time. I wish ppl would realize this so there will be less WTS Dye!! crap.
Edit: To avoid potential flamming, I should make it clear I'm not calling you an idiot, Shifty. When you can make an extra plat, it might be worth it to try to sell to someone else. But for 50-100g, LOL no.
