okay, i'm not exactly an expert at this game, i've never done farming in my life but i think this is a bit weird. today while doing the althea's ashes quest, while i was in the flame temple corridor, i got no less than 21, that's right, 21 purple unidentified weapon and shield drops, and 6 purple unidentified armour drops.i thought it was a bit weird, i tried to avoid as many charr as i could while i was in there. after getting the ashes i noticed the portal behind and went into dragon's gullet (or wateva it's called). i started exploring and killing hydras. i got 9 unidentified purple armours, one purple shield and one purple bow. WTF?i had only ever got 1 purple drop, one gold, and countless numbers of blue drops up till then across ALL my chars, some of which i deleted after getting bored with them.can any1 explain this?

Well, straight after the update I was getting an awful lot of gold drops.... admittedly in Grenth/SF... but Superior Smiting AND Superior Healing in the same run? By today these seem to have dried up and you're only getting purple drops from the chests. I did notice a couple of small file uploads both on Friday night and Saturday. Maybe this is a balancing up exercise?

Before the updates, I found unlocked chests in Sorrow's Furnace that dropped some pretty good stuff...now, they are all locked

In under 30 minutes in Grenth's Footprint (Not even in sorrow's furnace) I got a Green Staff, a Purple Half Moon, a Gold Air Wand and a Gold Long Sword. This shit is da bomb.

I think I've played about 3-4 hours after the update, in Sorrow's Furnace, Grenth's Footprint, Mineral Springs, and the first Fire Islands mission. I think I've gotten...1 purple T_T

After the update, I did 1 Griffin run and got THREE gold drops!!!

I also came across a locked chest (had forgot to get a desert key, doh!!) - first Griffin I killed drops a key

Drop rates are certainly way up compared to before the SF update.

Purples in Ascalon are not worth anything. Even if you get a >50 sword, it won't be max. Rune unlocks are almost always minor. Salvaging prefix/suffix mods is nearly impossible.
