These ppl (and some are well known to pull this crap every day, I can name 2 from memory who are at it daily) do no make 'mistakes', they are scammers and frauds.

They make money off player in a dishonest way by not abiding by an written agreement to sell an item x at price y, its that simple. Saying in a chat window you will buy item x for price y constitutes a written agreement in the eyes of Anet and repeatedly doing this kind of thing is fraud and gets people's accounts suspended or deleted.

Anet does take a dim view of these practices but do remember that Anet needs proof of a scam, ie take screenshots when someone tries to pull these scams on you.

I would just recommend that everyone be very careful with their trade, and make sure you KNOW what you're getting.. Just like when you buy a car, or anything else. I'm sure you wouldn't let a customer slip you a 1 for a 100, would you?

No one deserves to be exploited by another, regardless as to wether or not they are "stupid." The truth is, if the scammer weren't scamming, there would be no problem.
