I wanted to cap shield of deflection with my monk a little while back so i entered a group at the ring of fire mission.
Doing my job and healing some hurting people when boom! I was dead in a couple of seconds.
People started screaming at me because i wasn't infused and when i checked, i realised i had my farming armour on.
Luckily for me i always carry spare armour sets with me.

Heh, I think every Ranger has done that at one stage :P
Including me.
Not sure if the following qualifies as n00by, but it was kind of scary:
Guy: Hey babe, if you strip dance I'll give you 100g <-- At the time, I didn't know by taking of all your armour you reveal your character in the "underwear".
Me: Ummm... What are you talking about?
Guy: Just take off your clothes and dance for me hottie, I'll give you some cash if you do
Me: I think I'll be leaving now

My noob "period" on this game was when i begun with my Ele.
Did presearing and begun doing a few missions in Ascalon until i found it was pretty impossible for me to do them.
In fact, was taking just 1 Henchman all the time. Took a while to realize i could take 3

My first time doing Iron Mines was a fun one. We had a group of 8 PCs, and about 6 of us were not infused at all. Now this was back when you could only get one piece infused at a time. So we get to the Seer and do the quest, and get a piece infused. Now, this is where the fun begins.
One of the 2 warriors in the party is fully infused, and he goes running off to fight Markis. He knows we aren't fully infused, but he goes anyway. So being the good teammates that we are we followed him. We took out the surrounding groups of Mursaat, and then got up to Markis and his Jades. It starts getting rough, and the moron dies. And then of course this is his statement: "OMFG YOU n00bs!!!!! UR NoT INFUSED!!!!" After a few more idiotic statements, he leaves.
The funny thing is that we managed to fall back and rez the others that had died, and we killed Markis. It was great. I whispered him to tell him that we had beaten Markis without his worthless ass.
"Ask me if I care n00b!!!!"

Had a very embarrasing moment in the Dragon's Lair today. My mesmer succeeded in backfiring himself, more or less.
He had Backfire cast on him, and obviously not thinking, I had him cast Shatter Hex, target self. He did about 160 points worth of damage to himself, dropping his health below zero (as he'd already taken serious damage).
In a word, OOPS.

the only noob story I can contribute is this one. I was doing Thunderhead Keep with my friend and he got a W/Mo into our party. I thought " not the best choice since I read so much about how idiotic W/Mo's can be on this forum, but I suppose it's better then nothing" We started the mission well, the warrior called targets, waiting for us to catch up and I thought that I was wrong about this guy...until we hit the city. Then he seemed to forget that monks and nukers needed energy to work. He plowed through hordes of monsters, killing them group by group without any regards to us. When I told him to wait for the monks, the reply was " shut up". Hoping to keep us alive from crazy hordes, I told the team to stop healing him and the monks did. To rub it in my face, he kept saying how he was healing himself and taunted me about it. Sadly, he managed to stay alive. At this point, one of our monks left and the noob ran in a different direction from what groups normally take. We followed him for some stupid reason and I watched him fight two groups of monsters. My friend was smart enough to stay behind with the king and yelled out to us that a patroling group was coming. We couldn't go back without agroing them, so we were trapped. When that group hit us, the noob was yelling " who did that!" and we all told him he did. Eventually we were getting killed and we called him an idiotic noob and other insults and left. Amazingly this is the first and only time I had such an idiot in my group.

these are the n00b experiences that i have seen, probly already mentioned, but i couldn't be botherd reading all the posts
- (your a monk in PvP) there is a warrior attacking you, he's still attacking you though his whole team is dead and doesnt know about it, once he realises he just quits.
- 150k for 30hp sword pommel and 30k for 29hp (seen it somwhere)
- in ascolon distric 1
n00b: selling my armour 500g
me: you can't sell armor
n00b: really?, i had no idea, ok thanks man
--===i move to ascolon distric 2===---
same n00b: selling my armour
- This is mainly when Sorrow's furnace was added (this is in droknars forge)
player 1: where is sorrow's furnace
player 2: where is that new place
player 3: can some one tell me where sorrow's furnace is
all said within 5 seconds of each other
- scenario (pre-searing, doing behind the wall quest)
me: dont attack the charr
player 1: ok
(player 1 is dead after attacking the charr)
- not really a n00b thing, but i like doing it, buying lots of dwarven ale, and drinking it while doing thirsty river (really fun if your actually drunk in real life )
- another scenario (doing anything, your a monk)
me: my energy is 0 of 52
me: my energy is 0 of 52
me: please dont charge in
(after we're all dead)
warrior: why didnt you heal me
- this is my favourite (even though you know that they are new and shouldnt know, its still funny)
- person in pre-searing: what does dye do?

In LA Arena's I was looking for some fast paced PvP so I entered. After loading there was a female mesmer in our team.
She continued asking, "Have rez?" and no one said anything because well... It was a little inconvenient at the time. She didn't do anything and just stood at the starting point of our team and as we started getting killed she started with the big talk spamming, "Thats right, you deserve everything you get". And all I said was, "That's right" and then it was over because she just stood there talking crap asking if we "Have rez?".
Later on after a few more battles, I saw her again in one of the districts running around. Feel sorry for anyone who was unfortunate enough to be given her in their team.

Great thread! I too am familliar with the agony of typing "wwwwwsssaaI cant move!!" and the GUI spam when I forget to press enter before typing..
Anyway, I had a pretty bad moment of noobness a while ago. I had been wondering what the number and icon above some players in outposts meant for some time. Afraid of making a fool of myself by showing my newbness to the more experienced players, I tried to ignore it the best I could. Finally, I was in a decent group with mature players, and desided to ask what it was. After a "lol" from all the party members, they told me. I can understand the "lol", seeing I was in Thunderhead Keep at the time.
I also ran into a case of "noob/leetness" the other day in the arenas. My team had been winning for 24 rounds when the other ele had to leave as it was getting late (I played the other ele, and we also had a mesmer and a monk). When he left, he was replaced by another player. This player rushed to the other team while we were going over the last part of the tactics, and got spiked to death. While dead, he started yelling the usuall "omg, you're all noobs!!11", which is to be expected. But, he also managed to say: "you guys couldn't win a single round in here!! NOOBS!!" then he left. After a quick laugh, the three of us managed to win the round after a pretty intense battle, and the emtpy slot was once again replaced by a random guy/gal. This guy, who turned out to be the best caller I've ever grouped with, made sure we won 7 more matches before calling it a day.. Oh the irony..

That's truly astounding. At least 90% of the pug PvE groups I join have at least one such person in them. Sadly, this percentage doesn't improve as you reach more difficult areas. Like today, with a few different groups trying to cap some skills on Perdition Rock. We go out, and I'm frantically drawing on the compass trying to show them what we need to do to avoid getting owned by the patrols. Apparently no one knows what arrows mean because they charge in and we get owned. So we get rezed by the portal, and rezone to lose the DP. So now I tell them to wait, and describe in detail what needs to happen and they respond in the chat, seemingly understanding the situation. Again I draw on the compass when it's time to fight... you guessed it... same results. Some people never learn. Anyhow like I said that's the kind of garbage that happens with 9 of 10 pugs I've ever been in. Fortunately most of the game is easy enough it doesn't matter.

I can think of 2 good moments when I first starting playing GW. The first was in Pre-Searing. I found a black dye(the only one I've ever found also), but of course at the time I had no idea how rare they were and how much they sold for.(which was around 1k at that time) So I come into the abbey and see people wanting to buy dyes, so I whisper to one saying I've got a black, and I'll sell it for a whopping 200g. /doh!!!!!!!!
|
Ha! You think that's bad, I distinctly remember what I did with the dyes I got pre-searing with my first character. Yep, I used them on some crap items to make space in my inventory for stuff worth more than a mere 1 gold. I can't remember what all colors, but I know one was silver.
