Same problem. Worse is that I alt-tab between the game and my code.
My n00b story for the day is being accused of a n00b in the random arena this morning because I didn't use a res signet while frozen soil was up. Finally, after killing the spirit (another person died, *sigh), but I could finally use my signet (after this person spamming "r3z m3" about 20 times). Needless to say, we finally lost -- clearly because I chose to rez the recently fallen hero rather than the spammer. Then he proceeded to harass me via tells; thank heavens for the ignore list.

I use AutoCAD at work, where ESC is a default for cancelling half written commands, or stopping commands in general, so the ESC tick is also pretty in-grained into my muscle memory.

Ahhh, I did the same thing, don't remember my level, but I do remember travelling back and forth between Ascalon, Ashford Abbey, and even Barradin Estate, thinking, "This sucks." I was so very happy when I discovered the map travelling option.

Oh that Damnable Windows Button. Man that is frustrating! I am going to wedge a matchbook underneath that thing so I can't click it anymore.

I advertised in Augury rock that i would run people to dunes for free.
I got 5 immediate responses.
The fifth response was like this
"Wow, you really must have no life to be doing it for free"
I took my team to dunes and logged back in with my other character.
I found this person who was charging 500 gold per person to go to dunes and i joined his group. He didnt know that he insulted me 10 minutes previously, let alone the fact that i had a malicious plan for revenge.
Anyway, off we went.
I could tell immediately that he was taking the northern approach (more deadly) and this just boosted my excitement for my cunning plan.
As he dodged the drakes, jades, griffons, sand ele's and dreaded wurms, i weaved my way towards to thin alleyway through which he had to go. Was it my fault i did my own weaving and "accidentally" pulled more mobs than he would appreciate? No, of course not.
"Stop stop" he shouted.
"No you idiot, just die!" he yelled.
"You're screwing up the run" screamed the only anxious passenger of his. (hehe, thanks for letting me know i'm achieving my plan)
I did as he said, i stopped. and died...just happened to be in the alleyway through which he planned to go.
What happened next? Of course...all the mobs set on the runner and killed him through his godly armour in 5 seconds flat.
When i stopped laughing, wiping the tears from my eyes, i could see that we ressed at dunes anyway.
I paid him the 500 gold and sent him a message.....
"Wow, you must really have no life to be charging people"
So, what lesson did i teach him? Mind your own business.
One less person in the desert sending malicious whispers and one more in my ignore list.
For being a first time aggro noob, i would say i did a damn good job!

/signed for implementation of "Disable windows key". Lots of games have it currently. Not that I need it, I play in windowed mode (almost full screen) with gwguru.com and some IM and winamp at the same time

well, this is my noob story. yesterday at TOA, i had a 7/8 group for FOW. we needed another warrior, so i was looking for one. this one guy, which i wont mention his name, msg me cause he wanted to join. i asked him if he had any experience with FOW. he was a level 20 btw. this is what he said, "Of course, I've been there many times. I've had lots of experience with fissure". so i thought to myself, this guy seems good and i added him. Lo and behold, when i went to pay to enter fissure, bam, denied because someone hasnt ascended and guess who it was? it was the newly added warrior. this was the first time something like this happened for me. i never knew that the ghost will tell you which player isnt ascended. well, back to the story. after when i was denied access, and i announced it to the team, and that warrior left the group like there was no tomorrow. i guess i cant blame him for being a noob. well, guess he learned something new.
btw, yesterday was the furthest i have traveled at fissure. i finally made it to the forge guy and was able to buy fissure armor but had no money.

MY n00b story happened a few days ago, but I do't know if it's really a n00b story or a story about a guy who sucks. I'm in Ascalon trying to buy some Steel ingots for new armor. Then as I was staring at the chat screen I see this pop up.
"WTS Necro Armor from Lion's Arch| Armor 45(or something like that)| Increases Damage From Holy Spells| 500g"
So I thought, well I should Inform said person about the fact that armor is Customized for the wearer so I whispered to him.
me: Dude your armor is customized for you no one else can wear it
him: STFU n00b I know that I'm just trying to make money off of n00bs!
me: thats pretty messed up
(so then I Posted that you couldn't wear his armor in the channel just in case anyone was stupid enough to try and buy it)
him: OMG WTF N00B!!!! WHY'd you ----ing do that NOOOOB!
me: because your a ---- trying to scam people
And that about it though he called me n00b a few more times...I hate some people.

When silver dye was still going for 500-600, I posted this at Ascalon City trade channel: "WTS Silver dye for 300g, first one to whisper me gets it", because I needed some quick cash. I got 4 whispers instantly, and I replied the fastest one "ok, meet me at storage".
While I was waiting for him/her to arrive, some other dude started spamming me with trade requests. When I declined, he goes "why be a n00b about it?" After I replied that he wasn't the first one to whisper, he spammed some more, and even after I sold the dye to the fastest whisperer I still got several random insults revolving around the word "n00b".
The extensive vocabulary some people have amazes me.

Ok, here's my noob story
Was working with a team of folks walking north out of Fisherman's to do Gareth and get to ToA.
On our way to Gareth, there's a path along a river/stream that has a tree on a hillside. There's a bit of a mob there, fight is over, I want to get to a drop. I autorun to go around the high side of the tree, not realizing that it is impassable. Pretty soon, I stop, but my pet warthog runs right up behind me. Now I'm stuck.
I was wedged in real good since the tree blocked the pet on two sides, so he'd have to back up to let me out.
The whole party came back, stood around and made all kinds of funny pig remarks. I was stuck for several minutes until he random walked away.
Still the mission was a success, we clobbered Gareth even though our monk dropped. Everybody had 25-30% DP, but we survived.

not sure if this is a noob story but was in Droknar Forge the other day and saw the message.
"Willing to teach people how not to be scammed 1k per person, whisper me."
So I messaged him back saying. "That seems like a scam to me..."
His reply was that exactly, it was and many many people had fallen for it... I just had a laugh and left...

I was in the Fissure yesterday and we get this n00b monk who decides that instead of healing, he would tank. He says, "I have all healing spells I can attack in front if I want."
It took him 3 sec. to learn he brought all target other ally spells. Unfortuanetly, it took him much longer to learn he couldn't rush. Rez after Rez he would rush in. Finally he ctrl-clicked to let us know his DP was at -60% so we left him and did much better for it. Our protection monk who only brought 2 healing spells, Heal Other and Orison of Healing, did much better.
Note: I don't bash on monks, I love em and my 2nd character is a monk. However I do bash on dumbasses like that.

Most of my "n00b" experiences have been with people who insist they know the way, then promptly lead you on a glorious adventure in the wrong direction.
After a while you think something must be up and ask "Shouldn't we have made it somewhere by now?" which is promptly answered with "I dunno... got no idea where I'm going, roflcopter!!!" At times like that you don't know whether to laugh or cry
My other "n00b" experiences involve people opening trade windows with me randomly and typing with terrible grammar such as, "I sell shield.. 8k good deal.. you take plz." When I try to kindly say thanks, but no thanks, I'm answered with "you f'n n00b, dont know what a good item is... you suck."
A minute later I see someone else in the district saying "Who's this chump opening trade windows with me?" in the local channel.
Once again, should I laugh or cry?

In Ascalon City:
"I'll run you to the Great Northern Wall for only 50g!"
I replied with the directions and he sends me a whisper (amazingly he was semi-polite) "Don't tell them that, it's how I get all my gold."

Over at Port Sledge I remember this little chat I had
someguy: "I have 10,000 gold, need 5000 to buy my 15K set!"
me: "You're going to need about 60K more, they're worth 75K"
someguy: "Its called 15K armor for a reason! nub nub!" (yes, he spelled it 'nub', twice no less)
me: "Yes, its called 15K because its 15K a *piece*!"

"I WILL SELL IT TO YOU FOR 7.5K SINCE IT IS YOUR FIRST TIME HERE IN THE FORGE."
ANd I told him "Nice try. I knowpeople that will sell it to me to a 10th of that price."
and he said "Can't blame a man for trying."

Just a friendly reminder: Please stay to topic about "n00b"ish things people do and not how you managed to take advantage of someone's "newness". There is a world of difference.
And...I am such a n00b sometimes....I have been the victim of the Windows key more than I should admit.
