Default Music changes = no good

I like the music in GW a lot. It was well done enough that I wanted to get the soundtrack (which comes with the collector's edition, that I did not have). Certainly a step above most online games out there.

That said, the recent change to the game's music was poorly implemented. They said the change would make the music "more varied". This is not true at all. It is less varied. The towns play more than one song, but it is the *same* set of a few songs played over and over with no regard to the general area they are in. I hear the same music in Ascalon that I do in LA that I do in Droknar's that I do in Ember Light Camp, and in all of the mission areas. I cannot see the point in that. And there are some musics that were previously heard in some towns, that I do not hear anywhere now.

This change was silly and I think they should put it back the way it was... there is far less variety in the music now. I'm glad they used the few songs in the game that weren't previously used, but the towns and outposts need fixing.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of the change.

I really liked the Ember Light Camp town music before, it was very graceful and sad, and really made it feel like you'd reached the end of something big. But that music is no longer there, and is outside in Perdition Rock now. Instead they play either some weird scottish or Debussy-like music in town.

I liked the music update, it was refreshing.
I do think a mini jukebox would be far better. Most games allow you to choose the tracks to play at any time...why not GW?

You miss the point, why did you even post -_-

Anyway, I never noticed it much really, although in general, the music in GW was really repititive and uninspired, when I started, the music in the pre sear was just right, until you realize its the same music everywhere you go. Then i started using music outside. Still I can imagine people w/ slower PCs will have to stick it out.

Exactly my point, those tracks may work fine in an area like LA, maybe, but do not fit in at all with places like Ember Light or Amnoon or wherever else. But there they are, the same tracks in every town and outpost now and it ruins the feel of the game. Some people say to just turn off the music and play your own but that is not the point. A lot of us really appreciate the quality of the game's music and would like to listen to that, but not if they disregard the mood of various areas completely - which is what they are doing right now.

Perhaps they could add an option to be able to set which tracks we want to play in each area. This could be done with a simple text file outside of the game. Whatever they do, I hope they don't leave it like it is now, because it DOES make me want to turn off the game music and listen to something else, especially after hearing the same few tracks in every single town I go to - ugh.

I would pay money for more music. Say, .99c per track?

I don't understand the change. It seems counterproductive to what the reason for change was.

That said, there's one song I think might be new. But other than that, they're all Shiverpeak rehashes. I miss my LA music.

Yeah I'm not fond of the change either. It's worse if you have downloaded the $5.99 soundtrack. I had to rename all the soundtrack files from .wma to .mp3 to stop the DirectSound from screwing with my music even more.

More tunes is better for sure, but poor randomization and placement isn't good compensation.

It was something new for a change. Would be nice if there were constant updates to the BGM but I think that would be asking too much.

Rejoice, DirectSong has you covered with Sorrows Furnace Mini pak (free) and Battle pak 1 ($6us). I found the music a bit too quiet in the initial release, so I'm looking forward to the music from direct song.

You can do that without breaking them? I was annoyed that they weren't in a standard mp3 format, how can I take them on my MP3 player

I dont ever listen to the game music when I play. I always have the music off, and all the soundeffect at half way.... then I have iTunes going in the backround with my favorite music. It's great because I have different playlists for different things (e.g. PvP pump-up music, PvE gracefull music, Lord of the Rings, etc.) But my favorite thing to have going is the Baldur's Gate & Neverwinter Nights music going (now that was good music!)

If you don't listen to the in-game music, I'd suggest grabbing music from Lineage 2. That was good mmorpg music.

I thought things were a little odd when I bought the GW soundtrack and suddenly "First Light" was playing practically everywhere in Pre-searing. Good song, but song placement should be considered.

There's two things I'd like to see.
-(1) Thing in the option menu to enable/disable different sound packs that I've downloaded,
-(2)More customization regarding what songs play where.

The music is beautiful but you hear the same version everywhere.

Nice music

No variation

Is this a bug Anet or did you really want us to hear the same tune everywhere?

Yeah nice music, but the towns have lost some character with the same stuff playing in all of them.

I dont like it either. I wish they had done it as it first was for War Camp right after the update: each town, or major area, has its basic main theme, and one segway that would come in over a set period of time. Gives more flavor and a sense of your travelling to another area of the world. Its just so homogonized the way it is currently.

I love the direct sound packs, I do see why people feel this way of changing all the towns / outposts to a (same song cycle).

What I would love to see is some sort of advanced control, at least to disable direct sound from the guild wars options to best complete control.

I would least give an option to to play "enhanced" tracks of the original or do the cycle. I just got the third one and curious how the OST and battlepak 1 are going to cycle in game now...
