It's the oldest rule of the world: say something like this and you'll find hundreds of people who have "slight impressions", "sensations", who "noticed something strange and less people to play with" and so on.

Districts are still crowded, I can't see what youre talking about, frankly.
First off, I'd like to point out that all the arguements against the "sky if falling" scenario fit just as well against the "everything is rosy, shut up" arguement.

NONE of us have access to the data. MY point was this: If everything really is just rosy, why does Anet keep the proof top secret? Are they perhaps working with the Bush administration on a method to find Bin Ladin? The way they act you'd think they were involved with Homeland Security in SOME way at least. When I pointed to D2, my main point was to show that Bliz gives us access to the numbers. We don't have to ask things like "just what does Anet consider an 'active account' anyway?".

By the way, your comments about the falloff after year 1 with D2 are taking FAR out of context. With that game a huge number of players bailed on the game because of a massive number of nerfs, which wiped out the 2 most popular builds with no way to reskill. Then, right on top of that they released the expansion, and it was seen as a betrayal.

If you're going to take a lesson from that experience, it would seem GW is in for a very rocky road over the next 6 months.

What is this need to assert that you KNOW EXACTLY what is going on in this game anyway? I and many others say that player numbers are falling off based on in game experience. Certainly it is anecdotal, but it's not hard to compare what was to what is. I'm not sure why you feel it's so dangerous to admit that there MAY be a problem.

Yes, it's clearly true that the success of Gw does not depend on anything related to Blizard, nor does it depend on anyone actualy playing GW. If nobody EVER played this game, and simply tossed their unopened boxes in the trash, Anet would still have sold that box.

HOWEVER, the media DOES follow player numbers, and occasionaly comments on them. This DOES seem to influence players future purchasing decisions. You argue nonsense like "this game is meant to be played for a while and then set aside" as though you can read the minds of the dev's. You claim that all the disgruntled PvP players that have left are whiners and good riddance, because YOU don't miss them. But you don't seem to be able to conceive of a world where they tell others to stay away from chapter 2. I currently have 2 copies of this game, and 1 friend I am now banned from ever recomending a game to again. And I myself have been out of the game for over a month. There is simply no way I would ever recomend this game to anyone else.

If you don't think my oppinion amounts to anything, what do you think the guys at LOTD or Fi are going to say about this game they seem to have abandoned entirely? Fi was not only featured in Anet's own guild of the week, but was written about in a print magazine. They're not exactly nobody, and if you don't think they can influence the future you're high.

If I were jumping into a new game that had multiple chapters, I sure as hell would do my homework before I dropped the kind of cash it takes to get fully up to speed. There is no way I'd get into Magic the Gathering now, when the player base is 1/10 of what it was when I quit. The expense of getting restarted is not met by the rewards.

Finaly, lets notice something right now. I don't claim to KNOW the future, nor do I claim to KNOW what's in the minds of the dev's. So could you please stop acting like you're active members of the Psychic Friends Network?

To take one of my favorite quotes completely out of context: "I don't know and you don't know either". We are all entitled to express an opinion, but some of you have decided that your own opinion is scientific fact and anybody who happens to disagree with you is not entitled to express it after all.

Well I've basically quit. It's not that GW isn't fun at all, it's just that there isn't much to do anymore. With such a low level cap, and next to no rare items (only truly rare item is crystalline imo), there just isn't much to shoot for. There's no real way to improve in a way you can truly see.

I think you all must be on drugs, ive got about 250 hours play and in the past week or two especially everywhere ive been has been absolutely packed.

I was just in grenditch courthouse and it was absolutely chock a block, then i went to droknars, same story, ive been doing low lvl quests around ascalon and south shiverpeaks alot lately and there have been tons of people.. It seems to me if anything there are tons more players in the game lately.

I just stumbled across something here. Charles Ensign is smart. But man, what a name he chose for his guild. It is brilliant!!![/SIZE]

IDIOT SAVANTS (IQ).
heh ... hate to break it to you but Ensign didn't come up with the name. Ravidel did (another one of our members). We spent like 12 hours brainstorming and voting on names and tags in IRC. Finally settled on Idiot Savants [iQ]. It was the one name that nobody had any huge objections to.

Right now, I'm looking forward to playing Resident Evil 4 and Shadow of the Colossus on my PS2 when I get time. Most of my guild, including myself, are taking time off from Guild Wars to do other things, including RL hobbies and projects.

We will all be back for Chapter 2 when it comes out.

the only reason i stopped playing GW is because of school and because it got boring (both PvE and PvP), the ring of fire missions are empty (unless it for skill capping) and i dont like hench when other hench die (i have rez they have theirs and they dont use rez).

That about sums up my status, although I would have used marginally better grammar to write it myself... too lazy though...

Start->Guild Wars->Right Click->Unpin from Start menu.

Start->All Programs->World of Warcraft->World of Warcraft->Right Click->Pin to Start menu.

Still for the last 3 months this was a lot of fun.

Probably the best Single Player game Beta I have participated in .

Bull. There are millions of permutations of builds. You just mean you've tried all the cookie cutter ones already.

and thats only the cookie cutter ones TO DATE. you still have the joys of pettank teams, condition killers and the oh so godly balanced team!!

because of the human factor in GW (especially in PUGs) it is never the same. it never gets boring.

you will be stuck in the game forever!!!!!!!! mwahahahahahahahhahahaa!!!

hem hem.

i haven't noticed a decrease of people in areas. i have noticed quite a few old guilds going inactive, but they are always being replaced by new ones.

Is this a discussion on a drop in the number of players or the fluctuation of players to different area's? I myself see tons of people in lions arch and ascalon, not to mention toa, tombs (more then it use to be here), comp and team arena's... And quite a few in sorrows.

A drop in people in certain area's is fine, it's nothing to "freak" out about.

Not as many players as there use to be? Of course. Playing at different times? Of course. Not starting as many new characters? Of course. Not wanting to go through all the missions again? Of course.

Sure, there aren't nearly as many people looking for groups doing missions, this is not a problem at all. Not to mention the fact that I'm sure there are thousands just like me who don't use groups anyways, and fly through the game through rushes, and henchmen.

Now, when you start jumping from the ghosts in the begining of tombs straight to the hall of hero's, then you'll know one of a few things.

1. There aren't many players on at wierd times.
2. What the heck, bug?
3. There are less players in the game by a large margin.

Am i saying there are less players then when released? No, there are more.
Am i saying that there was a peak in the numbers that dropped to a lower number of people that like the game? Of course, happens to all games.

Not everyone who buys the game will like it, don't kid yourself. Not everyone who buys it will continue to play it forever, stop kidding yourself. Hardcore fans of the game, and those that like it will argue for its "cause". I myself like the game, see a slow drop in numbers, and am not worried at all. Worry about what first of all? I mean, they made enough money to fund what they need, and fund their events, and shirts, and copies for future expansions. That's all i care about.

It's expected things happening, more so of common sense to figure out what's going on.

I've been playing the game continuously since I got it in June, but I must admit, my interest in it is starting to wane, and I'm thinking of trying something else. The reasons I'm getting bored are:

1. Getting harder to get groups for quests as every sod (especially in the war camp) only wants to farm.

2. No real reward/incentive for completing the high level quests - XP is essentially useless as are skill points once you have all the skills/elites you want/need - eg. I've gone through the game with three different characters and now one of them has 55 skill points left yet has all the skills I want/need so accumalating them is pretty pointless as I couldn't afford to spend them even if there were skills I still wanted (I know of one guy with over 150 skill points left).

3. Not interested in PvP as I find it pretty boring.

On a side note, another good reason they shouldn't allow low level players to get anything right away. There should be some juicy tidbits always just out of reach rather than accumulating skills. I know this game isn't about aquisition but rather combat, but it still matters. Many people hate the "carrot on a stick" approach, but let's face it, it does keep people interested.

I would figure playing time would be down because of school, but I have no fancy figures, numbers, or any evidence what-so-ever to argue weather or not GW is on the upside or downside.

When Guild Wars came out it was like digital Herion for me and my future wife...well maybe not quite that bad. (We never skipped a day of work just stay home and play GW, lol. ) But we did clock in a lot of hours of game time.

So what turned me off from GW to try out WoW? Well, i'd have to say the player enviroment became much more negitive. Everyone started taking the game way too seriously and everyone became in a big rush to get from point A to point B. To add to that the worst missions to play were Thirsty River and Thunderhead Keep. Those two missions frustrated so many gamers (including myself) I could feel the angry vibe radiating from my monitor. I had replayed those missions so many times, I knew with in a matter of minutes weather or not the team I was playing with would stand a chance of making it though.

The biggest turn off from GW is... the game (currently) lacks many of things that a game like WoW has to offer. (link items in chat, mounts, mail, auction houses, player/guild member search, just to name a few.) The guild system in WoW is better. For a person just to create a guild they must get 9 other signatures from players before the guild can become offical. The ranking system is better, players can be premoted without having almost total control over the guild like officers have in GW. Also it is up to each player to buy there own guild tabard (equal to a cape in GW). This can be taken off when ever you so choose.

GW's was great, but when I found that after so many suggestions I made that would improve the game were replied with "Why don't you just go play EQ or WoW..." I said to myself "Maybe it's time I finally took their advice."
