Could GW be coming to PS2/Xbox360?

TJ Kim confirms plans for leading MMORPG firm to move to consoles
Korea-based online gaming giant NCsoft is preparing to launch titles on next-generation consoles, according to chief executive Tack Jin Kim, who confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that development work is already underway.
The company, which is behind the world's largest massively multiplayer game series, Lineage, as well as titles including City of Heroes and Guild Wars, has until now focused exclusively on the PC platform.
However, Kim - who is founder and president as well as CEO of the firm - openly confirmed that the company is now "actively developing" for next-generation consoles, which he considers key to building the firm up in markets outside Korea.
NCsoft is already the largest gaming company in its native country, and its titles are proving a major draw at this week's G* games expo at the Kintex exhibition centre near the capital city, Seoul.
Kim did not discuss specifics of the company's development work on next-generation consoles, nor did he reveal which platforms the firm is working on - but sources close to NCsoft's European division revealed that Xbox 360 is not part of the company's plans at the moment, suggesting that the PS3 is the target platform for NCsoft's first console titles.
Speaking today at NCsoft's head offices in Seoul, Kim also confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that a European development location is part of the firm's plan for the future, joining the company's other development studios - NC HQ Studios in Seoul, Guild Wars creators Arena.Net in California and Richard Garriott's NC Austin Studio.

lol why would they try to do it on PS3, it's like practically wasting time and money. PlayStation online sucks compared to the Xbox, that's it's strongpoint, it's like saying you're gonna make an MMO only for Macintoshes and not PC's, how retarded

Just because you're a fanboy of the Xbox/Xbox360 doesnt mean you should give false information about the ps3. In fact, the PS3 DOES have a HDD that you have an option of buying with the console, JUST like the Xbox360, and please, next time you talk about something you know completely nothing about, do some research.

hmm its a possibility. I think it's more likely they'd bring heroes or villains out on it (though haven't played them so I don't know how they'd port). I'm just trying to figure out how you could play it on an xbox...
2 triggers, 6 buttons, 2 analogs, 1 d-pad, hmm... and you need to fit in "move, target, pick up loot, talk, use skill 1 - 8" as the bare minimum... (forgive me if i've missed anything). It'd be possible I guess... just seems it might be a bit slow/awkward, especially if you were going to play against pc gamers. Unless the 360/ps3 bring out mice to use with them so you could play it just as well as a pc gamer.

PS3 isn't even out for several months, its a bit early to say that its online play is going to suck. PS2 launched before XBox did, they had nothing to compete with, now that XBox Live has emerged as a big hit, SONY will buff up their online section significantly. SONY doesn't play around, don't count them out.
XBox 360 playing GW, I guess its a possibility, but some sacrifices will have to be made, it can't be as in-depth as it is now, I mean using your 8 separate skills as fast as you do now (pressing the number keys) on the clunky XBox controller is just not a possibility... it won't be anything near a direct port if they do it, I predict a more polished, deeper version of Baldurs Gate/Champions of Norrath.
PS2? Not even an option in the least. I love my PS2, but its showing its age with every passing day. PS3 will have the hardware to handle a game like GW, if the frame-rate and processing power they're announcing is a reality, but PS2? Never. If they did do it they would sacrifice way too much and make a mockery of a good title... like the console version of Battlefield 2.. ugh.

not if you have a console because you can't afford/dont want a pc. They bring keyboards out for consoles to make stuff that bit easier. Means you get all the functionality but don't have to worry about installing/upgrading and stuff I know thats why my bf prefers console versions over pc ones (and he has both). He used to play Phantasy Star Online on the dreamcast and had a keyboard so he could talk to people more easily.
From what I've heard, ps3 have no plans for a similar Live thing, but that could quite easily change (and I haven't exactly been following it) but to be honest, it wouldn't really matter. All you'd need to do is have the GW client automatically connect and search for the updates, it would just have to be via GW's interface rather than a specific 'Live' type of interface.
I'm actually pretty curious as to how FF online will work on the 360.

PS3 has big plans for online. They know where the future of console games will be. I'm not in the mood to Google the specs and stuff, but PS3 will have something similar to Live.

I think it would be more interesting to see something of a mmorpg, on the DS. You can type, and point at stuff easily, and pretty soon it'll have online capabilities as well. A sprite based 2D guildwars on the DS could be pretty cool.

All they have to do is make the mmorpg controllable with a joypad, and, let's face it, twitch-speed and accuracy are not big factors in mmorpg gaming, so that wont be very hard.
As for leetspeek-speaking kiddies... well, we've got'em already, don't we? I don't think adding a bunch of console players will change much.
However, I don't think NCSoft is thinking of Guildwars, specifically. They have several upcoming mmorpgs.

heh ds one could be cool.
mmo's will be more popular on consoles soon, I'm sure. 360 has an FPS mmo planned (Huxley) and console sales already beat pc (well xbox and ps2 sales do) so once both consoles get themselves sorted with a good internet service, i'm sure more and more will appear.
Do ncsoft already have any games on consoles?
