So what does this mean? The AI improvements are comming. For those who think things are hard now, get out now! It's also apparant they are not against honest farming (I remember it was mentioned somewhere), but rather against solo farming. If they could program it now, the AI would make PvE just as hard as PvP. It also seems like the economy as people know it is probably going to change as well.
So, thoughts on where the game is headed?
|
Straight down the shitter IMO.
I've seen plenty of developers address communities about their games and I have never seen such pompous self rightious crap come from one person.
How can you attack and talk down to your own game community in this way? It's absolutely shocking behaviour from someone who needs respect from the people they are addressing.
There is absolute uproar over this and all we get in response is this socially inept mouthpiece TELLING us what we want from our games.
Yes Gaile, people do eat, drink, smoke and maybe even scratch their arse while playing games. Why is that a problem to you? You've mentioned eating whilst playing twice now. Is food a problem for you too? Are you annorexic or something?
Games are a pastime and not a full time job where both my hands need to be at the keyboard constantly for hours on end. This is my hobby. I play because it's enjoyable. I DO NOT want to be staring into a screen constantly and concentrating so hard my eyes bleed.
If you're so bleedin' dedicated to things being done right, then why not get yourself some proper training on how to address and converse with customers? Leave your PvP Mesmer alone for 2 minutes, pick up a dictionary and learn the real meaning of the word Empathy. It does not mean drivel on about your own ideals and telling others what they want like a complete obnoxious prat. You have successfully severed an entire community by incompetently releasing a patch (not an update I stress, a patch) to 'fix' one issue you didn't like, whilst inadvertantly introducing an entirely new problem altogether without even contemplating the repercussions. *Golf claps*
What cracks me up is that they're STILL hiding behind the AI issue regarding the eradication of solo play. Just admit outright you hate solo players and they aren't welcome in the game. Add the damn party cap for leaving areas and show a bit of bottle if you're so damn sure what we want. Stop letting people think it's all ok then nerf the shit out everything with no word of warning when nobody's looking. Utter, utter cowardess.
This 'AI' won't be updated to a respectable level any time soon. Simply because AI altering was not the aim of this update. I'm willing to wager that your AI won't be up to the standard of even a 10 year old games such as Half Life before the next expansion.
You've screwed a substantial number of your fanbase, you've screwed your game and you've screwed yourselves. I do admittedly hope this is sorted, as I've said before, as I've previously LOVED this game and I damn well want to keep playing it, but I'm not having your ideals of how I should play rammed up my arse every few months as you see fit.
Should the game eventually fail, I will laugh at your lose, yet mourn for what once was the best damn game I've played in years.

You're a customer rep? I'm not gonna start on you in any way here, however I will say that if that's your attitude towards customers.... well crikey.
As a company customer representative it's exactly your job to deal with and control any shit I as a customer may choose to throw at you. You know, I'd love to read through some things along the lines of:

But who in their right mind wants to slog through 60 pages of:

Near 60 pages of utter crap! Seriously, there should be a constructive thread on the patch issue (and it shouldn't be merged with this one Savio, you plant hater! ).

i have but one thing to "add" to this thread:
i understand the logic of enimies with a sense of self-preservation...however, given that logic, why does that only apply to AoE?...i mean, if making lvl20 minos run from a Firestorm or Bal's Aura makes sense, then why does a lvl8 Charr just sit there and take a beating from my lvl20 warrior? given the self-preservation logic, shouldn't the Charr be running for his life after i land a blow for 80+ dmg??
then again, maybe this has nothing to do with the current discussion...it has just always amused me that, when helping guildies through the early missions, gangs of lvl 5 grawl would come charging headlong at my ascended/infused warrior in 15k glads with absolutely no hope of surviving the encounter...

the devs have pointed out the invisimonk was never suppose to happen. this game has had tons of problems for one reason: the invisimonk.
the devs have this all planned out from the beggining. everything worked out then they release game. 3 weeks into game players find a way to solo and emass huge fortunes in a matter of days. people acually raced to 1 mil gold to see who could get it first. this overhelmed the econemy they had planned out. sent it into a downward spiral fast.
half of the problem was the stupid AI you were fighting. maybe if this update had been implemented first instead of skill nerfs pro bond might have been saved instead of a completely dead skill for pve and pvp. it used to be very powerful in pvp but after nerf due to pve it killed an otherwised unmatched skill for pvp. pvp turned to smiting and that got nerfed b/c it started to take over much like spirits did.
they can only playtest so much before it becomes a waste of time. you have to put it out there see how people react and the update on game. then tweak, tweak, tweak, till you get it right. if we had a better AI from the begginning players would have learned good tactics and stategy instead of just 1 strategy.
this game did a 180 from what the devs had planned for it since the release mostly thanx for to the invinsimonk. if the build had never been made less skills would have been nerfed. drops would still be good. people would team more. we would have monks that acually heal. econemy would have never crashed twice. most of the things that almost every pve player complains about was linked in some way shape or form to the invinsimonk. will i miss it no i will not.

Try posting that again with the full Gaile quote and not a single abridged sentence that serves your purpose. Do you work for a tabloid or something?

let me put it this way. i take about 80 calls a day 350+ a working week (5 days). about 60 of my calls a day are activation of new accounts. 2-3 per day request to disc. you really don't affect anything by threating to quit. there are plenty of new ones right behind you.
btw i get told thank you about 500 times a day.

Every single game I have played requires me to sit there and activeally control something. First Person Shooters especially.
So I guess you wont be playing a game like half life (10 years old? lmao? Half life was released in nov. 1998). That requires moving your mouse to a very specific position to do the most damage possible while trying to position yourself behind objects so you can take less damage.
What Anet did is the equivelent of moving the AI from standing up in waving infront of a machine gun to getting behind cover and out of the field of fire.
Removing exploited abilities of AI's is a good thing. AI casters shouldnt try to cast through backfire or soul leech for instance, or stand in the middle of AOE's. Remember Anet isnt coding AI to operate just 7-10 weapons but an AI that can handle the cause and effect of over 450 skills.

Not at all. I'm excercising my right as a consumer to have an open opinion on a product. Their product was flawed. That's their fault, not mine. Their AI update was a screw up to fix a previous flaw and introduced a whole new one and people are complaining. In response to this I don't need the very person who is meant to be addressing my complaint telling me I'm not supposed to eat a cheese sandwich at my PC.

She didn't say you're not supposed to. She said you're not supposed to be able to eat a cheese sandwich and solo end-game areas at the same time. And logically, you disagree?

Yes, and I'm NOT happy. I play only PvE, and don't give a flying rat's behind about PvP. If I wanted to play in a PvP style, I would, but I don't. I don't care what farmers are doing, since it doesn't affect me directly. What I want is my fun and enjoyment back. I want to enjoy my ele again. I want to be able to play my ranger without worrying whether she's been nerfed or not. I almost didn't play last night because I was literally dreading trying to find a new mix of skills that wouldn't jeopardize my team mates and cause complete chaos on the battlefield. How sad is that? Where's the fun in that? Gone, thanks to Anet.

There is a big difference between calling and complaining, and ranting. A person who is ranting will not listen to anything you have to say and he will not change his opinion no matter what you do.
For instance if my internet suddenly goes out and I call my ISP and complain, the guy on the other side will go ok, let me find out what i can. He gets back to me and states that there is service work being done down the street and its an only temperary interruption of service, the result of the maintenence will be an additional mb of bandwidth.
But lets say I call and start ranting on how my ISP sucks and they are stupid and cant get anything right and how it should be running smoothly no matter what etc etc talking through and not even listening to the service rep, THAT is a waste of time.

My fire ele still kills stuff just fine. Then again I dont rely on 2 skills to do all my damage. And even if it was nerfed, i think it just brings on some new excitement trying some new stuff out and reconfiguring my character. Playing the exact same thing over and over, gets repetitive.
THe latest update also opened up new possibilities of using those aoe spells, for instance i can drop a fire storm on a monster attacking a monk and he will pull back saving the monk damage and in a way providing a protective barrier.
if the warrior in my party hamstrings an enemy i can drop an aoe spell to get him to try to run and then the warrior in my party will be landing 100% critical hits while the monster is moving.
Not only that several skills have effects that apply only when the target is moving, previously monsters wouldnt move all that much, especially casters or rangers.

this game has more updates and in less time than any other multiplayer game. i wish i could read korean so i can see from the perspectives of the other servers. i bet those guys are not complaining since they are not as spoiled as americans that think everything should be handed to them on a silver plater. game was simply too easy and they are making it harder. that is good b/c the players will get better along with it. pugs will be better for it.
if anyone can translate some other korean servers forums contact me i would like to see their perspective on this.
