Collect (find >.>) as many shards/ectos as you can and save off actually pumping gold into FoW armor until after Ch. 2 release. FoW costs will TANK after the new stuff is out, so there's no point spending so much now. It's also very likely that some new armor will attract your eye more than anything currently accessible. >.>

Balthazar isn't evil, he just controls smiting and fire, god of warriors, smiting monks, and fire elementalists. Now Grenth is evil .

The concept is not new, it is called a Gold Sink. No different than the dwarven ales, the 15k armors, or anything else you can spend your gold on uselessly, and to a lesser extent "godly" weapons and mods, like a 19% mod vs a 20% mod and the magnitude of difference in asking price.
|
Buying a weapon off another person is not a gold sink, as the money does not leave the system, it merely changes hands. It's still there, floating around in the system.

that's what's always puzzled me about droks/15K/fissure armor...it would make a lot more sense if it was, say (for warriors):
Droks - 80-85AR
15K - 90-95AR
Fissure - 100-105AR
then there would at least be a point to getting fissure over droks...
|
By doing this you've just managed to unbalance the game mechanics, that's why the stats are the same and it's only for vanity purposes.

not if the game had been built with those stats from the beginning...granted, if those changes were suddenly made now things would be screwed up, but if they had been built in from the start, i don't see a problem...

Well, I (like alot of previous posters) think waiting untill chapter two comes out before spending all that money is a good idea.

If they had done that from the start, the game wouldn't be very fair for the casual gamer, which was what gw used to be all about. The average player can get by with collector/forge armor because it's the same stat wise, and they can still have fun.
If all of a sudden you need 2 million to be competitive, I hardly would call it a game geared for the casual gamer.

The optimal setup for armour in many cases is a mix of various sets, but unfortunately this makes you look a little goofy. This was the reason that I bought FoW armour for my warrior, now I can wear glads armour with knights boots and not look like a refugee from the rocky horror picture show.

On female necro's, 15k scars look very nice.
Male necro's with FoW armor look like their wearing female skirts

But.. It's basicially impossible. I've only gotten 3 Globs of Ectoplasm ever. And I still have them. It's extremly hard to get at least one Glob every run now, or even every run-in-a-while.
|
Here's something no one has considered: Chapter-2 armor may NOT be ecto based. If this turns out to be the case, then ecto prices will plummit, and whatever is chosen by ANET as the new base component for Ch2 armor will replace ecto as the standard monetary unit.
I have 30+ ecto in less than 1 week and climbing rapidly. At this pace, I'll have enough ecto for fissure armor in less than a month's time, well ahead of Ch2's release, but I doubt I'll be buying FoW armor (simply because it doesn't look spectacular).

just a note though - while in safe places like cities, you can't see people's armor in high-def, only your own. if you ventured out with that warrior you'll see how it looks up close.
imo the male warrior fissure is definitely ugly anyways.
and the ranger fissure looks nothing like the collectors.

I will get fissure armors for ALL SIX MAIN PROFESSIONS. That is insane without eBay, good players or 300g ecto price bug. Well, at least I have some goal left. Monk has it already so there is 'only' five sets.

Buying FoW armor is worth it if you can easily afford it; if you only have one character so far, and little money, I'd go for bringing up a couple more characters and getting them 15k sets and some nice weapons instead.
I do have fissure for my monk myself, but I have played over 1300 hours and use her in PvP so kinda get to see it often.
