What the hell is wrong with GW economy?!
I started about 2 weeks ago, it's not enough to learn everything about a MMORPG but since i play several hours a day i managed to get a good bit into GW.
Anyway, my point is, when i was level 7-8 i bought a max damage Storm Bow (blue) for 1.5k gold. It's 15-28 damage, +11% while enchanted, +28hp and customized for me.
Lately i've been checking this trade forum since i am 10 levels higher and i am bored of using this bow but i see people selling good bows for 50k-150k...
That's pretty much stupid. What are they gonna do with that kind of money anyway?
My bow aint that bad, i got it for 1.5k, why would i pay 100k more for a bow that's just a bit better?
I'd understand 5k... but 100k.... damn, GW economy is really screwed up.

That bow is worth a lot more than 1.5k, that's the point. You got a complete steal of a deal...

... don't tell me people are bitching about the econ again...
geez, im gone for one week and all hell breaks loose...
I can sum this up real quick with the following. There is no problem with the GW econ, only with the people who to be in control of it, so basicly this thread should be called " Why is everyone a greedy child?" So if your going to point fingers point them at players, not the game.
To sum this all up: People are morons, get use to it
Enough said

there seems to be lots of people who must have the MAX stuff. it's kinda funny -- a sundering sword hilt 10/10 cost 50k, but a sundering sword hilt 10/9 costs 15k. That's 35k gold for a 1% chance at 10% armor penetration...
although i don't understand this mentality, i do have a theory.
in another life, i used to work on Wall St. one of the things that investment firms have noticed is that if there are a few people willing to buy a stock at an unusually high price, some other people will believe that the stock is worth that price and buy it base on that.
other people will then see it go up, and join in. the ball will keep on rolling until some event cause the cascading effect the opposite way.
personally, my guess is the GW perfect items is just like this. there are a few hardcore players who have amassed large fortunes and are willing to pay huge sum of money for perfect items. those people then ended up setting the price -- the seller aren't willing to sell it for less and the other buyers are under the impression that the items are worth that amount.
of course, this could just from my crazy perspective...

Actually you can get along quite nicely by not buying anything from other players. Use the vendors for your armor/weapon upgrades, salvage kits, ect. Most items are dropped on the course of questing.
There is no real economy like in other MMOs, there is nothing you can't get yourself with a little effort. People get all freaked out with the economy but in reality it was made this way so people didn't have to worry about accumulating items....it's casual gaming at it's best.

Learn to love collectors and crafters, as they can provide you with the meat of a good weapon. Only when you have insane amounts of gold should you focus on aesthetics and perfect mods.

I tried this approach with Calissa Sedgwick early on in the game, trying to get the belt pouch. We dated for like two weeks. I took her to the finest restaurants in Lion's Arch. We danced under the moonlight at Kryta.
Always the same response...

I needed/wanted a shortbow (15^50) now to find one to buy off a player would take time and probably se me back a fair bit.
I managed to pick up a 29 health grip and a 10/9% sundering string 15k for both because they wern't max, I think i got a good deal.
I checked wiki and found that i can get my shortbow from a collector in the desert(sure it's not fancey looking) for a few hydra claws, 15 minutes of farming with my warrior and i have claws and then the bow.
Applied the upgrades and now i have my lovely short bow to buy the same thing from a player would probably have cost me a lot more money.
To sum up: Wiki ro><or and saves money & People are very picky and want perfect everything and will pay through the nose for it.

It's not the stats people crave really - its the eye candy. Anyone can plunk those mods onto a collector's bow and be effective with it. But it's...ugly. Well, not really put a bag over it's head ugly, more like the girl next door plain. It doesn't sparkle, glow, shimmer, or color up very well.
But stick those mods on a storm bow and yowza.
Yeah, perfect mods are one thing, but what they're on is more important. if the mods were so important, then everyone would use collectors items, which normally have perfect stats and can be further modded to boot.
Shrug. The economy isn't bad - it's stupid.

it's the people who control the economy. people for some reason believe that the extra 1% will save them in battle...or make them look l33t. therefore they're willing to pay the extra cash for that perfect upgrade. since they have so much cash on them they can bid crazy amounts of gold....and ordinary people (like me) are left in the dust with the mere 5k we've scrounged up.
and then there's the fancy looking weapons.....
ooh, it glows. i'll pay 1000k for it!
i mean, seriously. COME ON.

True i agree that some people are willing to pay a fortune for the absolutely best item.
However this game is not like, for example, Lineage 2 where it is extremely hard to get items. Guild Wars have good drop rate, but people still sell those items like they are rare as hell.
Well anyway people sell that Drago bow here for 50k and above while i've seen people sell it in game for 25-35k.
I think that i'll just wait for my drop.

Sure the bows that you see being sold for 30K aren't the vampiric ones?
