I sell cheap to get rid of things. Sometimes they are really great items that could go for a lot if I was patient and found the right buyer. Sometimes they are mediocre items that gives a buyer a decent piece at an affordable price. That's why I very rarely post a starting offer or a buyout in my sell threads. (The exception being that damn 20/20 Rockmolder that I am determined not to let go too cheaply.

The only time i ever felt like i scammed someone was during a trade in post searing ascalon. i was there transfering things for a friend to his new ranger from his primary to secondary account and saw someone wanting to trade a razorstone for 3 black dyes. i jumped all over that, but then felt bad and worked out an exchange where i got him som better armor at yaks bend and helped him with all the missions and quests until then

Buying low and selling high is the way how a real market/capitalist economy works. Stock traders who intends to make money buy low and sell high. Stores everywhere does that as well. The mark their items up so they can make a profit. So why is it a form of scam unless you acted in a dishonest manner? Even if you are dishonest about the pricing, it's not really much of a scam but just shows the kind of character you really are...

Well, I don't know how prices are in SoCal, but I know out here in (undisclosed location), $2.35/gallon of gas is definitely getting ripped off. It's like... $2.09 here.

To the O.P.: All tomfoolery aside (lol, I said tomfoolery), we're talking economics here. If you don't like Capitalism move to... I dunno... China, I guess.

But if I might ask... what would you consider to be an ideal trading system, if buy low/sell high is seen as scamming? I'm just wondering what you think the alternatives are.

"Buy low, sell high" is a basic principle of capitalism. Hey, even the NPC traders do it! I don't have issues with it.

Personally, I don't give a rat's ass about all the trading and farming. I am so annoyed by all the WTS/WTB spam that I keep local chat turned OFF at all times. I've sold dozends of purple and even gold max dmg weapons to MERCHANTS for a few bucks just because I can't stand the trade crap.

Depends. Some people just need to get rid of the item, and don't feel like waiting another 3 weeks to get it out of their storage, so they sell it way below what it's worth, that's not scamming. Though, if you buy something for a very low price from someone that doesn't know what the hell his item is worth, it's kinda scamming, though, I don't mind, most people would do this, and if I got a nice item for a really low price, I would buy it too.
