Is this fair?
Alright, I was doing one of the missions in order to get ascended, (the one where you have to collect the crystals), and instead of doing the mission again, I opted to pay someone 1k to run the crystals. He spammed in town saying Running Mission 1k 100% success. I joined his group and he said pay after the last crystal. Well apart from him being a compete A-Hole the entire time, barking commands at us, screaming and just being a dick typing in all caps, he managed to die while bringing back the last crystal. The rest of the team and I decided to go grab the crystal and bring it back. I planned on paying him anyways, up until the point when he started having a fit because we picked up the crystal rather than Resurecting him. So basically we finished the mission without him, and i chose not to pay because he was a jerk. I didnt take any screenshots, but i dont think anyone else payed him either. He was that much of an A-Hole. He whispered me saying i can get banned for this. Is that true? And am i being unfair?

You will not get banned. You finished the mission, his advertisement was to finish the mission for you. So it was like you guys were just doing the mission like any normal party of 6 would.

Absolutely not. You did the right thing in that situation. Besides, you can't get banned for something that wasn't meant to be there in the first place (running the mission). He was just being a spazz.

This is just my opinion but if you arrange for someone to get you through a mission you do what they say if you want it to work out.
I personally see it as you screwed him over even if he was being a jerk he was still doing something on the understanding that he would get paid for it, ok he died but if he up to that point had done a good job and if one of you had res'd him he would have finished it then i think he deserves the gold.
EDIT: you don 't deserve a banning for it as he didn't finish but i personally would have paid him for the work he did do.

People try to promote fear in others by using the phrase "I'll report you!".
A-Net has better things to do than ban someone for broken 'buyer beware' issues. In fact, I doubt they've banned anyone for things like that unless they're using an exploit to fool you.
I would have done the same exact thing in your situation. If the guy was nice, and cool, I would have paid him. ..but the guy was being a jerk to you and deserved what he got.

yup,
you could have paid him less, or made sure you told him to chill-out and not be a spazz *before* you paid him. . .
But for the whole team to gang up on him and all not pay him, Ohhh so cruel
As the saying goes. . .
"Two wrongs do not necessarily make a right"
"Fight Fire with Fire"
Your penance is to say 50 "Hail Balthazars" and to be charitable to the next nOOber that needs help

He did got you guys that far so take that into consideration.
However he has no right to be verbally abusive but there are two sides to all stories - perhaps you did something to tick him off. Still it does not excuse him being insulting or whatever.
Beside personally hiring someone to finish a mission... ah well I better keep my opinion to myself.

Yeah the thing was i was still going to pay. I understand that if someone is giving you a service by running you or whatever it may be, then they have the right to tell you what to do. There is a point, however, where it becomes annoying and rude in the way that they're giving these commands. People just take this game way too seriously, and if someone not paying the 1000 fake gold that they think they deserve is going to ruin their day, then i think they've got some issues. No one needs to be that serious and mean while playing a video game. I just wish i would have taken screenshots so you could see exactly how frustrated this guy got.

Don't get run through missions : i hope the OP takes that away from this experience, sure doing a mission over is a pain in the ass but you're team learns and improves by playing it through normally.

he advertized 100% sucess? and he failed, a runner should not have to rely on the people he is running to support him, most runners i see usually offer a discount for a failed attempt, just cause he's running a mission for someone(s) doesn't give him the right to be a prick, tho i can understand having to tell people how he would like them to aggro or not aggro etc, just to make sure any noobs don't do the wrong thing to screw the mission.

100% Success and he fails. Methinks he also failed basic math in school.
You cannot get banned for transactions in game unless you are scamming people and get caught with credible evidence <IE:Screenshots, chat logs, email send to ANET> other then that, any transaction is player-to-player which means no recompense is needed if one end doesn't come through on a bargain.
Hence, do not worry. Be happy!

Is the opinion of an older (age-wise) GW player who plays this game a lot worth anything? If so:
1) The guy running the mission for you sounds like he was a real idiot; he didn't perform his part of the bargain (he didn't run the mission for you, he died) so you owe him nothing.
2) Shame on you for wanting to pay someone to run the mission for you. Elona Reach can be a difficult, frustrating mission if you don't know how to do it correctly (which path to take, which mobs to avoid, the need to lure at some points due to the multitude of healers grouped together, etc. etc.). But it is a surprisingly easy mission to do if you take the time, perhaps with henchies only a few times, to learn how to do it correctly. Paying someone to run it for you is not really playing this game, is it? I would imagine you would have much better satisfaction if you played the mission out without having someone run it for you.

Anyone can go and do two out of the three crystals - if he died attempting to get the third one, he sucks as a runner. If the rest of the party was able to go out and finish the mission while he laid there dead, sweet, perhaps the runner will practice more before advertising 100% success rate.

I have heard of people getting banned for a few days for supposedly not paying off a runner who then reported it. If true, it seems like the dumbest thing anet could waste its time on. Running is not an inherent part of the game design wise. Some entrepreneur types made it up, not anet. I think anet should not get in the contract enforcement business just because some runner shouts foul. To me that's the chance a runner takes. I'm sure they get paid most of the time.
