How Anet put the Snowball fight together was good but the whole snowball fight was Action Jack's idea from these threads. So if you want to credit on such a good idea credit him. However Anet came up with the skills, change to armor adn health and stuff, and what the heck we do in the arena and they programed the dang thing so we really need to give them credit too.

I agree. Snowball arena was probably the most fun I have had in an online game for a while.

I believe it works like this:
6 standard skills
1 class specific skill
1 specific skill depending on which side you're on

there's some wintersday update thread around here w/a pic of all the class skills.

The snowball arena is definitely one of my favourite places to play. It offers a balanced PVP arena where the players don’t have to worry about the opposing team having better gear than them. New players can compete with out having to face off with a level 5 who happens to have Forge armor and captured elite skills.

So adding DP to this arena is not a good idea in my opinion. What good will that do to the game play? How will it improve?

The snowball arena is essentially a Capture the Flag game. The object is to flag. How teamwork is utilized here, is much different from the normal PVP arenas. The survival of the flagger is most important. And if that involves a teammate who kamikazes the enemies to allow the flagger some time to get away, why punish him/her with DP?

The players I dislike the most are ones who run off and attack the other team with no intent. How does that benefit the team if you’re out there by yourself throwing snowballs at the closest enemy? By adding DP the game, it would just encourage people to kill more than flag.

I would definitely like to see a permanent arena get added to Guild Wars with this type of game style. The snowball arena is the MOST balanced thing of the game I’ve seen yet!

and in case you haven't tumbled to it yet, there's a reason it's called a snowball fight:
because you use snowballs

and it's a FIGHT!

The title becomes irrelevant given the objective of the game. You can fight all you want, but what’s the point if the other team is just going to get the presents? The fighting still occurs, just in a more defensive style.

Making it easier to kill the flagger with DP just to get the present is no different than just knocking him/her down with a hidden rock and stealing the present. Having your teammates support you by fighting them off as you make your get away. Is that not snowball fighting right there?

So some players die on purpose just to get respawned with full health. No one said you had to kill them. Why not take advantage of that and leave them alive with that amount of health? They will be forced to use a snowcone or just run around useless till they die.

If anything, rather than putting DP in this game. Put a longer delay before you respawn. Like 5-10 seconds. So if you die, it gives the other team a time advantage until you respawn.

that might also be cool, but it might actually be too big an advantage which might start to snowball in one direction.

once you start playing 3 on 5 or 4 on 5 the game might be over.

some minor dp would have much less impact.

ps

"You can fight all you want, but what’s the point if the other team is just going to get the presents? "

which is what I already said.
if you want answers to your questions, you'll have to read my previous posts because I'm not retyping them.

I'm not asking my questions expecting an answer. I've read the thread and understand your view. I'm asking the questions to make my points. Which is basically, snowball arena is practically a flagging game. Killing should not emphasized and the game is fine the way it is.

DP would simply not work with the enchantment that gives you 500 hp and 40 energy. it would just rease the DP

I really hope they will keep the snowball fights after this update.

Perhaps they can change it so it charges an entrace fee for each fight, and if you win X times in a row you get to win a random prize

that'd be cool --- but, I'm sure they'll discontinue it until next xmas.
anybody know if it's still up?
hey --- maybe if you're lucky they'll go w/my st patty's day idea.

thought of another skill:
"pope is the antichrist!" -- [stance] while in this stance you gain one strike of adrenaline for every party shout.

hey, limited time only is what makes the holidays so special, right?

Well, they can certainly tweak it a little to make it dodge ball or something.

I think currently there is such a disparity between the PvE and PvP population is because the actual PvP arenas are too competitive. You go to the arenas, you must have a build, you must have rank, and fame.. it is very much like... work.

Totally put off if you ask me, as a casual player I really don't care about all these. Snowball arenas is a break from it, it is fun, it is funny, and it is relaxing.

Especially the last point, relaxing.

If you can win rewards from playing "dodgeball" or whatever, that'd be even better too!

This was a really fun winter's day addition to the game. And yes, a permanent mini-game a bit similar to this one would be a nice feature (and a better Iiea than the low level arena's, which aren't really serving a purpose besides letting some unpleasant people boost their ego's by getting Droknar's armour and max weapons and then spending hours humiliating new players).

Glad you all enjoyed the Snowball Fights. I spent some time participating myself over the holiday period .

I'm especially glad that many players who would not normally participate in PvP found it enjoyable. I hope some will continue to PvP at least occasionally in other venues in Guild Wars once the Wintersday material is removed. And if not, I expect the future will see the return of something similar and just as fun in a future event.

The Snowball Fights showed me what I want in an intro to pvp experience. A place where the participants are all roughly equal with no chance of outright domination based on skills or equipment brought in. This is what Ascalon Arena should strive to duplicate. (but enough on harping for eliminating the drok armor and skills from low level arenas)

The severly limited skill bars meant that the team with the best teamwork won (most of the time). I had a couple runs with 9-10 consecutive losses as my teammates were interested in just trying to kill the other team. I had one run with a great group and we got 35 consecutive wins (and quit cause we were all tired). Plus everything in between. The winter gift rewards (for winning or losing) were secondary to the fun I had taking part in a true CTF - style game. It reminded me of my days pubbing on Tribes2. Damn fun stuff.

I wish they would keep the snowball arena indefinitely. Don't care if I don't get any presents. I like it because "everyone is equal", there's no special weapons, no favorite FOTM builds, just pure skill and intelligence. Why, this could be even a new form of Guild Wars and Hall of Heroes play. I doubt it would/will happen, but, I'd give my support and vote for it.
